  • A direct boundary element method (DBEM) is developed for thin bodies whose surfaces are rigid or compliant. The Helmholtz integral equation and its normal derivative integral equation are adoped simultaneously to calculate the pressure on both sides of the thin body, instead of the jump values across it, to account for the different surface conditions of each side. Unlike the usual assumption, the normal velocity is assumed to be discontinuous across the thin body. In this approach, only the neutral surface of the thin body has to be discretized. The method is validated by comparison with analytic and/or numerical results for acoustic scattering and radiation from several surface conditions of the thin body; the surfaces are rigid when stationary or vibrating, and part of the interior surface is lined with a sound-absoring material.

  • This paper is a study on the dynamic characteristics of truncated cone type squeeze film damper(SFD) bearing and rotor system. This model can alter the radial oil film gap which Is Important to the performance of rotor-bearing system and manufactured easily to change the shape concept of traditional circular type SFD bearing. In theoretical analysis, the oil film pressure distribution, the oil film force, the film damping coefficient and the eccentricity ratio, etc. were induced with regard to the film inertia effect. The film damping coefficients and optimum design parameters are calculated. When unbalance parameter U is greater than 0.2, the nonlinear vibration such as "Jump" phenomena appears in the vicinity of rotor critical speed. At this time, the increases of bearing parameter U, journal distance S, Reynolds number Re can control this unstable vibration. The experimental results show that SFD hearing and rotor system which are designed according to the design parameters in the stable region are operated stably in rotational speed 9,600rpm without nonsynchronous behavior.

  • The ultrafiltration behavior of dilute colloidal solution containing Si particles has been investigated. The experiments in cross flow mode have been performed at different operating condition by using the membrane with 20 kDa cut-off. The flux decline was due to the development of membrane fouling which was a dynamic process of two distinctive stages. For the high trans-membrane pressure, the pore blocking resistance was dominant at the initial period of filtraion and was followed by the cake resistance. And for the low cross flow velocity, the membrane fouling was governed by the cake filtration model at the initial stage of filtration process. Flux jump was observed temporally during the membrane filtration of mixed feed solution.

  • A bipolar magnetic field perturbation in the meridional plane was observed when the Polar spacecraft crossed the plasmapause near the midnight, which was identified by a clear jump in density and temperature, from the plasmasheet to the plasmasphere. The bipolar variation shows a negative-then-positive polarity. To examine the bipolar magnetic field perturbation at the plasmapause, we assume one-dimensional model with physical quantities varying along a direction normal to the plasmapause and employ two-fluid approach for the tangential plasmapause. That is, the magnetic fields on both sides are parallel. Considering Ampere's law and pressure balance relation, we have a perturbed magnetic field, which is consistent with the observation at the plasmapause.

  • The rate constants for the formation and dissociation of nickel(II) and cobalt(II) complexes with mandelate have been determined by the pressure-jump relaxation study. The forward and reverse rate constants for the mandelate complex formation reactions were obtained to be $k_f=3.60{\times}10^4\;M^{-1}s^{-1}$ and $k_r=1.73{\times}10^2\;s^{-1}$ for the nickel(II), and $k_f=1.75{\times}10^5\;M^{-1}s{-1}$ and $2.33{\times}10^3\;s^{-1}$ for the cobalt(II) in aqueous solution of zero ionic strength ($(\mu{\to}0)\;at\;25^{\circ}C$. The results were interpreted by the use of the multistep complex formation mechanism. The rate constants evaluated for each individual steps in the multistep mechanism draw a conclusion that the rate of the reaction would be controlled by the chelate ring closure step in concert with the solvent exchange step in the nickel(II) complexation, while solely by the chelate ring closure step for the cobalt(II) complex.

  • The pressure-jump relaxation method has been used to determine the rate constants for the formation and dissociation of maganese(Ⅱ), cobalt(Ⅱ), and nickel(Ⅱ) with some dicarboxylates in aqueous solution at zero ionic strength. The carboxylate ligands used are 3-nitrophthalate, 4-nitrophthalate, and phenylmalonate. The activation parameters have alse been obtained from the temperature dependence of the rate constants. A dissociative interchange mechanism with a chelate ring closure step as rate determining is employed to interpret the kinetic data of manganese(Ⅱ) and cobalt(Ⅱ) complexes. The rates of formation of nickel(Ⅱ) complexes are controlled by both the solvent exchange step and the chelate ring closure step.

  • The rates of complexation of the 18-C-6 (1,4,7,10,13,16-hexaoxacyclooctadecane) with $K^+,\;Ca^{2+},\;Sr^{2+},\;and\;Ba^{2+}$ in methanol solution have been determined at 25$^{\circ}C$ by a pressure-jump technique. The Eigen Winkler mechanism has been applied to interprete the kinetic data. The results suggest that the rate determining step of the complexation in methanol is the rearrangement of the ligand in the outer sphere ion-dipole pair to form a stable encapsulated complex of the metal ion by the crown ether.

  • Purpose : The present study was aimed at investigating the plantar pressure on dynamic balance of subjects with functional ankle instability following fatigue of lower leg. Methods : The subjects(30 university students) were divided into 2 groups ; functional ankle instability group(7males and 7females) and ankle stable group(9males & 7females) who could evaluate questionnaire. All the participants were evaluated muscle fatigue of lower leg by Biodex system III and distribution of plantar pressure by Zebris FDM-S system, The dynamic balance was tested by single-leg jump landing. This study were to measure of plantar pressure on dynamic balance with the difference between FAIG and control group following muscle fatigue. Results : In functional ankle instability group(FAIG), the post-fatigue was significantly higher than pre-fatigue in forefoot(p2,p3,p4) of plantar pressure on dynamic balance(p<0.05). The FAIG was significantly higher than the ASG in forefoot(p2, p3, p4) & lat midfoot(p6) of plantar pressure after fatigue in dynamic balance(p<0.05). The FAIG was significantly longer than the ASG in anteroposterior(AP) & mediolateral(ML) distance on center of pressure(CoP) after fatigue in dynamic balance(p<0.05). Conclusion : This study showed that FAIG were effected plantar pressure and center of pressure(CoP) by dynamic balance following muscle fatigue. Further study is needed to measure various age & work with ankle instability for clinical application.
