Design of Hydraulic Control Systems for a Disc Spinning Machine

  • The disc spinning machine is a specific production machine for discs of automobile. Using this machine, we could product superior wheels in hardness and strength to the press method and the machine made process time shorten by one-pass spinning. But, the spinning machine became huge because it needed maximum pressure during the process and this can badly affect the lifetime of components. In this paper, hydraulic control system was designed to make up for defects of spinning machine and to shorten overusing power. Experimental hydraulic control system was used to simulate the wheel disc spinning process and the control performance was evaluated for the required forces and positions.

  • The press machine is actuated by the rotating motion of crank shaft and the reciprocating motion of slide. In recent years, unbalance moments and forces to the main frame attract many researches, as press technology becomes more miniaturized, precise, and rapid. In order to control vibrations caused by the rapid motions of the crank shaft and slide, this paper studies a resolution reducing the unbalance at the high speed knuckle press.

  • Wet pressing process has great influence not only on the paper properties but also on the efficiency of total manufacturing process including energy efficiency. The slow drainage propensity of old corrugated container(OCC) might require more complicated control of wet pressing process. In this study, the change in press efficiency and in structure of wet sheet by the various condition of laboratory roll press simulator were evaluated to provide background information about wet pressing of OCC. The higher pressure and the slower machine speed resulted in higher efficiency of wet pressing but the change trends of dryness depending on the wet press pressure and machine speed were shown differently according to OCC treatment. The effects of water contents of felt on the wet press efficiency and sheet structure were also investigated. The higher contents of water in felt resulted in less removal of water generally and the crushed structure of wet sheet were appeared especially at higher pressure.

  • This study presents the development of predictive models for uplift capacity of suction caisson in clay using an artificial intelligence technique, extreme learning machine (ELM). Other artificial intelligence models like artificial neural network (ANN), support vector machine (SVM), relevance vector machine (RVM) models are also developed to compare the ELM model with above models and available numerical models in terms of different statistical criteria. A ranking system is presented to evaluate present models in identifying the 'best' model. Sensitivity analyses are made to identify important inputs contributing to the developed models.

  • Recently, research on predicting the behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) columns using machine learning methods has been actively conducted. However, most studies have focused on predicting the ultimate strength of RC columns using a regression algorithm. Therefore, this study develops a successive machine learning process for predicting multiple nonlinear behaviors of rectangular RC columns. This process consists of three stages: single machine learning, bagging ensemble, and stacking ensemble. In the case of strength prediction, sufficient prediction accuracy is confirmed even in the first stage. In the case of displacement, although sufficient accuracy is not achieved in the first and second stages, the stacking ensemble model in the third stage performs better than the machine learning models in the first and second stages. In addition, the performance of the final prediction models is verified by comparing the backbone curves and hysteresis loops obtained from predicted outputs with actual experimental data.

  • By introducing optimization algorithms into the machining process, product quality can be improved, time saved, and costs reduced. The cutting speed and feed can be handled by the turning machine. The approach of optimizing is used to manage pyrotechnics, Lawler's, greedy, bacterial colony, elephant herding, ant lion, spiral, auction, and pattern search for these ten odd ways. Ten artificial optimization methodologies were used to investigate the time and cost of a turning machine. It has been discovered how to create the optimal turning machine procedure. The best solution approach for the turning machine process problem is found, and the results are verified using ANSYS.

  • A vision-based blank alignment unit for a press automation line is introduced in this paper. A press is a machine tool that changes the shape of a blank by applying pressure and is widely used in industries requiring mass production. In traditional press automation lines, a mechanical centering unit, which consists of guides and ball bearings, is employed to align a blank before a robot inserts it into the press. However it can only align limited sized and shaped of blanks. Moreover it cannot be applied to a process where more than two blanks are simultaneously inserted. To overcome these problems, we developed a press centering unit by means of vision sensors for press automation lines. The specification of the vision system is determined by considering information of the blank and the required accuracy. A vision application S/W with pattern recognition, camera calibration and monitoring functions is designed to successfully detect multiple blanks. Through real experiments with an industrial robot, we validated that the proposed system was able to align various sizes and shapes of blanks, and successfully detect more than two blanks which were simultaneously inserted.

  • The EV electric vehicle market is growing rapidly worldwide. An electric vehicle means a vehicle that uses energy charged through an electricity source as power. The precision of the press is important to mass-produce the drive motor, which is a key component of the electric vehicle. The size of the driving motor is increasing, and The size of the mold is also growing. In this study, the precision of large high-speed presses for mass production of driving motors was measured. A study was conducted on the measurement method of press and the analysis of measurement data. A drive motor is a component that transmits power by converting electrical energy into kinetic energy. EV driven motors have key material properties to improve efficiency. The material properties are the thickness of the material. As a method for improving performance, use a 0.2mm thin steel sheet. Mold is also becoming larger. As the mold grows, the size of the high-speed press for mass production of the driving motor is also increasing. Also, the precision of the press is the most important because it uses a thin iron plate material. So the importance of large press precision is being emphasized.   • In this research, important mechanical characteristics of Compliant Press-Fit Pin and PHT are studied through the analysis of deformation mechanisms of Press-Fit Pin and by elastic-plastic finite element method. The direct data for the optimal design of pin was obtained without interfere with the criterion on insertion force and retention force. Also, the insertion force and retention force of new type pin were measured by precision type tensile testing machine and it revealed good agreement with analytical results. In conclusion, it is believed that above results will contribute satisfactorily to the practical design of Press-Fit Pin.

  • Servo presses are used in variety of ways in industry throughout the production and assembly lines of machine parts. The bottom of the servo press is fixed to a bed or a tabletop, and the press cylinder continuously operates under vertical upward loads. In this research, a static structural analysis was performed by simplifying 3D model of the servo press, and the maximum deformation was applied to the clamp and bolt. The maximum value of Von Mises stress was reported in this paper. The result was used to calculate the safety factor, and it was confirmed that the design was conservative.
