Comparison of nutritive composition, immunoglobulin and microbial community in the colostrum between Holstein and Jersey cows: an observational study in Korea (홀스타인과 저지종의 초유 내 영양 성분, 면역글로불린 및 미생물 군집 변화 비교: 국내 관찰 연구)

  • This study examined the colostrum nutritive composition, immunoglobulin (Ig), and microbial community in Holstein and Jersey dairy cows according to the time after calving. The experiment used seven Holstein and three Jersey dairy cows. Colostrum was collected immediately after calf calving, 12, and 24 hours, and stored at -80℃ until analysis. An analysis of the nutritive composition in colostrum was performed using LactoScop. The immune indicators were analyzed using an ELISA Kit, and the microbial community was assessed using a Macrogen Inc. The protein level was high in all colostrum samples from Holstein dairy cows compared with Jersey dairy cows, but there was no significant difference according to the time after calving. Immune index analysis revealed high IgG and IgA concentrations in the colostrum of Holstein cows immediately after calving and 12 and 24 hours after calving, but the differences were not significant. The microbial community at the genus level revealed Staphylococcus to be predominant at a high rate in the colostrum of Holstein dairy cows and Enterococcus in Jersey dairy cows 12 hours after calving. Pseudomonas was predominant at a high rate in the colostrum of Jersey lactating cows immediately and 12 hours after calving. Chryseobacterium was predominant at a high rate in Holstein dairy cows 12 and 24 hours after calving. In conclusion, these results are expected to be used as research data on the correlation between quality, immunity, and microbial community in the colostrum.

  • Polymer layered silicate nanocomposite has become an important area of polymer research becaues of its predominant properties in mechanical and thermal properties. Polymer layered silicate nanocomposites show outstanding improvements in tensile strength and modulus, heat distortion temperature, gas and liquid permeability, solvent resistance, and so on.   • The determination of fungal flora in some kinds of cereals have been carried out in other to obtain an appropriate information of the population of fungi and toxin productivity The results were summarized as follow; 1. The predominant genera were Aspergillus, Penicillium, Mucor, Rhizopus, Alternaria, Fusarium. 2. Six of Aspergillus flavus were aflatoxin-producing strains. 3. Sample barleys were found to contain the highest content of aflatoxin. 4. In electron microscopic studies of liver cells from mouse which had been injected with crude toxin, the liver cells showed the cytoplasmic change.

  • Plant fats and oils contain phytosterols as naturally occurring constituents, which are present in pure or esterified form, or conjugated as glycosides. The predominant phytosterol is sitosterol and minor components are campesterol, stigmasterol, $\Delta^7$-avenasterol and brassicasterol. They play a key role in cell membrane function of plants as cholesterol in animals. Phytosterols have been known for many years for their properties for reducing blood cholesterol levels, as well as their other beneficial health effects for cancer preventive biological-active substances. The objective of this paper is to present a description of the recent advances in phytosterols for future research.

  • This report is an review of 40 cases of mediastinal tumors which were treated surgically in the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Chonnam University Hospital from January, 1985 to September, 1989. In this series, male to female sex distribution was 1.35:1 with the male predominant. The main clinical manifestations were chest pain and dyspnea, and there was no definitive symptom in 5 cases [12.5 %]. The most common mediastinal tumor was thymoma, 11 cases [27.5 %], and next common mass was germ cell tumor, 9 cases [22.5 %]. The half of these were malignant. In operating, all of the benign masses were removed.

  • Investigations on the behavior of steel fiber reinforced high strength concrete beams subjected to predominant shear are accomplished to determine their diagonal shear strength including ultimate shear strength. The parameters varied were the volume fraction(Vf) of the fibers, shear span depth ratio(a/d). The test result show that diagonal shear strength and ultimate shear strength are increased siginificantly due to crack arrest mechanism. Predictive equations are suggested for evaluating the diagonal cracking strength and ultimate shear strength of the fiber reinforced high strength concrete beams.

  • Detailed expermental studies of theelectronic structure of the valence and conduction bands of the mixed conductor $\beta$-LiAlindicate that a quasi-gap opens at the Fermi level, and the conduction states are highlylocalized, as opposed to the theoretical band structure calculations that predict predominant metallic behavior. Evidence for complex lithium migration effects involving the surface of Lial , induced by particle (electron or ion) bombardment and mechanical treatment , has been obtained as a byproduct of these experiments.

  • Dilated cardiomyopathy in two dogs showing dyspnea was diagnosed at veterinary teaching hospital. In radiographs, cardiomegaly, pleural effusion, pulmonary edema, ascites, and hepatomegaly were seen at case 1. ‘Reversed D’ shape due to right heart enlargement was shown at case 2. In echocardiography, dilatation of chambers was predominant in case 1 and 2. Arrythmia was complicated in case 2.

  • Further study on the frequency and geographical distribution of rye with accessory chromosomes in Korea was carried out in 1996. All of the 15 populations of rye investigated were found to have accessory chromosomes and the frequencies of accessories were ranged from 15 to 54%. The study from 1963 to 1966 shows that the frequency of accessory ranging from 30 to 40% is predominant.

  • In this paper the Wideband DS/CDMA system capacity variation is analyzed by the impact of imperfect sectorization and man-made noise, which is more predominant in urban area than thermal noise. In general man-made noise is increasing as the electronic machines are increasing nowadays. It shows that user capacity and cell radius variation are much sensitive by the man-made noise.
