PURPOSES : The purpose of this thesis is to evaluate the effectiveness of an active noise cancellation (ANC) system in reducing the traffic noise level against frequencies from the predictive model developed by previous research. The predictive model is based on ISO 9613-2 standards using the Noble close proximity (NCPX) method and the pass-by method. This means that the use of these standards is a powerful tool for analyzing the traffic noise level because of the strengths of these methods. Traffic noise analysis was performed based on digital signal processing (DSP) for detecting traffic noise with the pass-by method at the test site. METHODS : There are several analysis methods, which are generally divided into three different types, available to evaluate traffic noise predictive models. The first method uses the classification standard of 12 vehicle types. The second method is based on a standard of four vehicle types. The third method is founded on 5 types of vehicles, which are different from the types used by the second method. This means that the second method not only consolidates 12 vehicle types into only four types, but also that the results of the noise analysis of the total traffic volume are reflected in a comparison analysis of the three types of methods. The constant percent bandwidth (CPB) analysis was used to identify the properties of different frequencies in the frequency analysis. A-weighting was applied to the DSP and to the transformation process from analog to digital signal. The root mean squared error (RMSE) was applied to compare and evaluate the predictive model results of the three analysis methods. RESULTS : The result derived from the third method, based on the classification standard of 5 vehicle types, shows the smallest values of RMSE and max and min error. However, it does not have the reduction properties of a predictive model. To evaluate the predictive model of an ANC system, a reduction analysis of the total sound pressure level (TSPL), dB(A), was conducted. As a result, the analysis based on the third method has the smallest value of RMSE and max error. The effect of traffic noise reduction was the greatest value of the types of analysis in this research. CONCLUSIONS : From the results of the error analysis, the application method for categorizing vehicle types related to the 12-vehicle classification based on previous research is appropriate to the ANC system. However, the performance of a predictive model on an ANC system is up to a value of traffic noise reduction. By the same token, the most appropriate method that influences the maximum reduction effect is found in the third method of traffic analysis. This method has a value of traffic noise reduction of 31.28 dB(A). In conclusion, research for detecting the friction noise between a tire and the road surface for the 12 vehicle types needs to be conducted to authentically demonstrate an ANC system in the Republic of Korea.
In the last decade, the model predictive control methods have enjoyed many industrial applications with successful results. Although the general predictive control methods for nonlinear chemical processes are not yet formulated, the promising features of the model predictive control methods attract attentions of many researchers who are involved with difficult but important nonlinear process control problems. Recently, the class of bilinear model has been introduced as an useful tool for examining many nonlinear phenomena. Since their structural properties are similar to those of linear models, it is not difficult to develop a robust adaptive model predictive control method based on bilinear model. We expect that the model predictive control method based on bilinear model will expand its region in the world of nonlinear systems.

Evaluating the performance of a binary diagnostic test, including artificial intelligence classification algorithms, involves measuring sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value. Particularly when comparing the performance of two diagnostic tests applied on the same set of patients, these metrics are crucial for identifying the more accurate test. However, comparing predictive values presents statistical challenges because their denominators depend on the test outcomes, unlike the comparison of sensitivities and specificities. This paper reviews existing methods for comparing predictive values and proposes using the permutation test. The permutation test is an intuitive, non-parametric method suitable for datasets with small sample sizes. We demonstrate each method using a dataset from MRI and combined modality of mammography and ultrasound in diagnosing breast cancer.
This paper presents a new model predictive control method without the effect of a weighting factor in order to reduce common-mode voltage (CMV) for a three-phase voltage source inverter (VSI). By utilizing two active states with same dwell time during a sampling period instead of one state used in conventional method, the proposed method can reduce the CMV of VSI without the weighting factor. Simulation is carried out to verify the effectiveness of the proposed predictive control method with the aid of PSIM software.
The conventional model predictive direct torque control (MPDTC) method uses all of the voltage vectors available from a two level voltage source inverter for the prediction of the stator flux and stator current, which leads to a heavy computational burden. This paper proposes an improved model predictive direct torque control method. The stator flux predictive controller is obtained from an analysis of the relationship between the stator flux and the torque, which can be used to calculate the desired voltage vector based on the stator flux and torque reference. Then this method only needs to evaluate three voltage vectors in the sector of the desired voltage vector. As a result, the computational burden of the conventional MPDTC is effectively reduced. The time delay introduced by the computational time causes the stator current to oscillate around its reference. It also increases the current and torque ripples. To address this problem, a delay compensation method is adopted in this paper. Furthermore, the switching frequency of the inverter is significantly reduced by introducing the constraint of the power semiconductor switching number to the cost function of the MPDTC. Both simulation and experimental results are presented to verify the validity and feasibility of the proposed method.
In the original incremental generalized predictive control, the receding horizon predictive control is introduced as a control law. But in this paper, we propose a generalized predictive self-tuning control using full-valued incremental controls. The control law is a mean horizon predictive control. The effectiveness of this algorithm in a variable time delay or load disturbances environment is demonstrated by computer simulation. The controlled plant is a nonminimum phase system.
In this paper, we propose a method by which QP (Quadratic Programming) problems can be solved in realtime so that we can implement the predictive control algorithm on a microcontroller system. Firstly, we derive a solution to QP problems by converting the original QP problems to its equivalent least squares with inequalities. Secondly, we propose a predictive control algorithm that can give good realtime computation performance by utilizing the fact that some parameters needed for solving QP problems can be computed offline. Finally, we illustrate that the proposed method can give good realtime features by running the C-code application constructed using the proposed method on a microncontroller system.
As a technical method for controlling chaotic dynamics, this paper presents a predictive control for chaotic systems based on radial basis function networks(RBFNs). To control the chaotic systems, we employ an on-line identification unit and a nonlinear feedback controller, where the RBFN identifier is based on a suitable NARMA real-time modeling method and the controller is predictive control scheme. In our design method, the identifier and controller are most conveniently implemented using a gradient-descent procedure that represents a generalization of the least mean square(LMS) algorithm. Also, we introduce a projection matrix to determine the control input, which decreases the control performance function very rapidly. And the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed control method is demonstrated with application to the continuous-time and discrete-time chaotic nonlinear system.
The stability of PWM rectifiers with a deadbeat current controller is seriously influenced by computation time delays and low-pass filters inserted into the current-sampling circuit. Predictive current control is often adopted to solve this problem. However, grid current predictive precision is affected by many factors such as grid voltage estimated errors, plant model mismatches, dead time and so on. In addition, the predictive current error aggravates the grid current distortion. To improve the grid current predictive precision, an improved deadbeat current controller with a repetitive-control-based observer to predict the grid current is proposed in this paper. The design principle of the proposed observer is given and its stability is discussed. The predictive performance of the observer is also analyzed in the frequency domain. It is shown that the grid predictive error can be decreased with the proposed method in the related bode diagrams. Experimental results show that the proposed method can minimize the current predictive error, improve the current loop robustness and reduce the grid current THD of PWM rectifiers.
In this paper, a new torque predictive control method of interior permanent magnet synchronous motor is developed based on an extended rotor flux. Also, a duty ratio prediction method is proposed and allows the duty ratio of the active stator voltage vector to be continuously calculated. The proposed method makes it possible to relatively reduce the torque ripple under the steady state as well as to remain the good dynamic response in the transient state. With the duty ratio prediction method, the magnitude and time interval of the active stator voltage vector applied can be continuously controlled against the varying operation conditions. This paper shows a comparative study among the switching table direct torque control(DTC), the SVM-DTC, conventional torque predictive control, and the proposed torque predictive control. Simulation results show validity and effectiveness of this work.
