Climate change is impacting and will increasingly impact both the quantity and quality of the world's water resources in a variety of ways. In some areas warming climate results in increased rainfall, surface runoff, and groundwater recharge while in others there may be declines in all of these. Water quality is described by a number of variables. Some are directly impacted by climate change. Temperature is an obvious example. Notably, increased atmospheric concentrations of $CO_2$ triggering climate change increase the $CO_2$ dissolving into water. This has manifold consequences including decreased pH and increased alkalinity, with resultant increases in dissolved concentrations of the minerals in geologic materials contacted by such water. Climate change is also expected to increase the number and intensity of extreme climate events, with related hydrologic changes. A simple framework has been developed in New Zealand for assessing and predicting climate change impacts on water resources. Assessment is largely based on trend analysis of historic data using the non-parametric Mann-Kendall method. Trend analysis requires long-term, regular monitoring data for both climate and hydrologic variables. Data quality is of primary importance and data gaps must be avoided. Quantitative prediction of climate change impacts on the quantity of water resources can be accomplished by computer modelling. This requires the serial coupling of various models. For example, regional downscaling of results from a world-wide general circulation model (GCM) can be used to forecast temperatures and precipitation for various emissions scenarios in specific catchments. Mechanistic or artificial intelligence modelling can then be used with these inputs to simulate climate change impacts over time, such as changes in streamflow, groundwater-surface water interactions, and changes in groundwater levels. The Waimea Plains catchment in New Zealand was selected for a test application of these assessment and prediction methods. This catchment is predicted to undergo relatively minor impacts due to climate change. All available climate and hydrologic databases were obtained and analyzed. These included climate (temperature, precipitation, solar radiation and sunshine hours, evapotranspiration, humidity, and cloud cover) and hydrologic (streamflow and quality and groundwater levels and quality) records. Results varied but there were indications of atmospheric temperature increasing, rainfall decreasing, streamflow decreasing, and groundwater level decreasing trends. Artificial intelligence modelling was applied to predict water usage, rainfall recharge of groundwater, and upstream flow for two regionally downscaled climate change scenarios (A1B and A2). The AI methods used were multi-layer perceptron (MLP) with extended Kalman filtering (EKF), genetic programming (GP), and a dynamic neuro-fuzzy local modelling system (DNFLMS), respectively. These were then used as inputs to a mechanistic groundwater flow-surface water interaction model (MODFLOW). A DNFLMS was also used to simulate downstream flow and groundwater levels for comparison with MODFLOW outputs. MODFLOW and DNFLMS outputs were consistent. They indicated declines in streamflow on the order of 21 to 23% for MODFLOW and DNFLMS (A1B scenario), respectively, and 27% in both cases for the A2 scenario under severe drought conditions by 2058-2059, with little if any change in groundwater levels.

The electrochemical properties using the cells assembled with the synthesized $LiCoO_2$(LCO) were evaluated in this study. The LCO was synthesized from high-purity cobalt sulfate($CoSO_4$) which is recovered from the cathode scrap in the wastes lithium ion secondary battery(LIB). The leaching process for dissolving the metallic elements from the LCO scrap was controlled by the quantities of the sulfuric acid and hydrogen peroxide. The metal precipitation to remove the impurities was controlled by the pH value using the caustic soda. And also, D2EHPA and $CYANEX^{(R)}272$ were used in the solvent extraction process in order to remove the impurities again. The high-purity $CoSO_4$ solution was recovered by the processes mentioned above. We made the 6 wt.% $CoSO_4$ solution mixed with distilled water. And the 6 wt.% $CoSO_4$ solution was mixed with oxalic acid by the stirring method and dried in oven. $LiCoO_2$ as a cathode material for LIB was formed by the calcination after the drying and synthesis with the $Li_2CO_3$ powder. We assembled the cells using the $LiCoO_2$ powders and evaluated the electrochemical properties. And then, we confirmed possibility of the recyclability about the cathode materials for LIBs.
For the assessment of climate change impacts for the Byeongseong stream, CGCM 3.1 T63 is selected as future climate information. The projections come from CGCM used to simulate the GHG emission scenario known as A2. Air temperature and precipitation information from the GCM simulations are converted to regional scale data using the statistical downscaling method known as MSPG. Downscaled climate data from GCM are then used as the input data for the SWAT model to generate regional runoff and water quality estimates in the Byeongseong stream. As a result of simple sensitivity analysis, the increase of CO2 concentration leads to increase water yield through reduction of evapotranspiration and increase of soil water. Hydrologic responses to climate change are in phase with precipitation change. Climate change is expected to reduce water yields in the period of 2021-2030. In the period of 2051-2060, stream flow is expected to be reduced in spring season and increased in summer season. While soil losses are also in phase with water yields, nutrient discharges (i.e., total nitrogen) are not always in phase with precipitation change. However, it should be noted that there are a lot of uncertainties in such multiple-step analysis used to convert climate information from GCM-based future climate projections into hydrologic information.
Ultrasonic irradiation in a solution during the chemical reaction may accelerate the rate of the reaction and the crystallization at low temperature. We have synthesized nanometer sized magnetite particles using coprecipitation method, sonochemical method without surfactant, and sonochemical method with surfactant, in order to investigate the effect of ultrasonic irradiation and surfactant on the coprecipitates of metal ions. The size of the magnetite nanoparticles prepared by coprecipitation method, and sonochemical method without surfactant showed broad distributions. But we got uniform nanoparticles using a sonochemical method with oleic acid. The average size of the particles can be controlled by the ratio $R=[H_2O]/[surfactant]$. The size of the magnetite nanoparticles prepared by this method showed narrow distributions. We have characterized the nanoparticles using an X-ray diffraction (XRD), a superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID), and atomic force microscope (AFM). The size and distribution of the magnetite nanoparticles were measured by dynamic light scattering (DLS) method.
A series of 20 wt % $(NH_4)_2SO_4$ and 3 wt % $Al_2O_3$ surface treatments were applied to $Li[Li_{0.2}Mn_{0.54}Co_{0.13}Ni_{0.13}]O_2$ substrates. The $Li[Li_{0.2}Mn_{0.54}Co_{0.13}Ni_{0.13}]O_2$ substrates were synthesized using a co-precipitation method. Sample (a) was left pristine and variations of the 20 wt % $(NH_4)_2SO_4$ and 3 wt % $Al_2O_3$ were applied to samples (b), (c) and (d). XRD was used to verify the space group of the samples as R$\bar{3}$m. Additional morphology and particle size data were obtained using SEM imagery. The $Al_2O_3$ coating layers of sample (b) and (d) were confirmed by TEM images and EDS mapping of the SEM images. 2032-type coin cells were fabricated in a glove box in order to investigate their electrochemical properties. The cells were charged and discharged at room temperature ($25^{\circ}C$) between 2.0V and 4.8V during the first cycle. The cells were then charged and discharged between 2.0V and 4.6V in subsequent cycles. Sample (d) exhibited lower irreversible capacity loss (ICL) in the first charge-discharge cycle as compared to sample (c). Sample (d) also had a higher discharge capacity of ~250 mAh/g during the first and second charge-discharge cycles when compared with sample (c). The rate capability of the $Al_2O_3$-coated sample (b) and (d) was lower when compared with sample (a) and (c). Sample (d), coated with $Al_2O_3$ after the surface treatment with $(NH_4)_2SO_4$, showed an improvement in cycle performance as well as an enhancement of discharge capacity. The thermal stability of sample (d) was higher than that of the sample (c) as the result of DSC.
A series of Ce-doped ZnO (Ce/ZnO) nanostructures were fabricated using the co-precipitation method, then a simply nontoxic hydrothermal approach was proposed for preparation of reduced graphene oxide (rGO)-Ce/ZnO composites. The synthesized composites were investigated by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), photoluminescence spectroscopy (PL), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) techniques and Raman pattern. The as-synthesized rGO-Ce/ZnO composites showed high photodecomposition efficiency in comparison with the rGO-ZnO, Ce/ZnO, pure ZnO under UV, visible-light and sunlight irradiation. The degradation of methylene blue (MB) (10 mg/L, 100ml) by 95.8% within 60 min by using rGO-2 (10 mg) under sunlight irradiation was observed. The repeated use of the rGO-2 was investigated, and the results showed almost no decay in the catalytic activity.

Korea is affected by typhoon 2-3 times a year, and 50${\sim}$60 % of annual rainfall is concentrated during summer with heavy daily precipitation. Recently such natural conditions cause many of failures or damages of reservoirs and embankments. Overflow by heavy flood is the main cause that results 54.2 % of total embankment failures with damages of spillway, outlet channel and stilling basin. Since damages by overflow are triggered by scour of soils nearby the structures, use of proper backfill materials with great resistance against erosion should be considered and application of suitable construction method to protect erosion may be adopted. Most failures of levee are caused by piping along the surface of cross-structure underneath levee. Such failures may be protected by deep consideration of piping at the stage of design and good quality control during construction. Sufficient magnitude of spillway and outlet channel is the ideal way to prevent failures by the flood. For existing structures, remodeling with reinforcement to protect against flood with review of required storage of dam should be considered.
Papermaking tobacco sheet is an important reclaimed process for cigarette making. Traditionally, the pressure driven membrane was often used to isolate the effective compounds from the tobacco sheet extract. However, this method is difficult to remove small ionic compounds. Besides, membrane fouling is a major problem for effective use of these pressure driven membrane technologies. In this study, the electrodialysis process is used to removal the chloride ions and nitrate ions, thus the smoking quality of papermaking tobacco sheet extract can get improved. Three types of electrolytes ($Na_2SO_4$, NaCl and HCl) are chosen to prevent the generation of precipitation. The results indicate that 0.1mol/L HCl at current density of $30mA/cm^2$ is the optimal condition for the electrodialysis process. The removal rates of the Cland $NO{_3}^-$ in tobacco sheet extract are 97% and 98.4%, respectively. The electrodialysis process cost was estimated to be 0.11$/L. Naturally, electrodialysis is not only technological feasible, environmental-friendly and economical-attractive for tobacco extract treatment.
$Zn_{(1-x)}Ni_xAl_2O_4$ (x = 0.0-1.0) spinels were prepared at $800^{\circ}C$ by co-precipitation method and characterized by infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The specific surface area was determined by BET. SEM image showed nano sized spherical particles. XPS confirmed the valence states of the metals, showing moderate Lewis character for the surface of materials. The powders were successfully used as new heterogeneous catalysts of Biginelli's reaction, a one-pot three-component reaction, leading to some dihydropyrimidinones (DHPMs). These new catalysts that produced good yields of DHPMs, were easily recovered by simple filtration and subsequently reused with persistent activity, and they are non-toxic and environmentally friendly. The optimum amount of catalyst is 20% by weight of benzaldehyde derivatives, while the doping amount has been found optimal for x = 0.1.

Semiconductor thick film gas sensors based on tin oxide are fabricated and their gas response characteristics are examined for four simulant gases of chemical warfare agent (CWA)s. The sensing materials are prepared in three different sets. 1) The Pt or Pd $(1,\;2,\;3\;wt.\%)$ as catalyst is impregnated in the base material of $SnO_2$ by impregnation method.2) $Al_2O_3\;(0,\;4,\;12,\;20\;wt.\%),\;In_2O_3\;(1,\;2,\;3\;wt.\%),\;WO_3\;(1,\;2,\;3\;wt.\%),\;TiO_2\;(3,\;5,\;10\;wt.\%)$ or $SiO_2\;(3,\;5,\;10\;wt.\%)$ is added to $SnO_2$ by physical ball milling process. 3) ZnO $(1,\;2,\;3,\;4,\;5\;wt.\%)$ or $ZrO_2\;(1,\;3,\;5\;wt.\%)$ is added to $SnO_2$ by co-precipitation method. Surface morphology, particle size, and specific surface area of fabricated sensing films are performed by the SEM, XRD and BET respectively. Response characteristics are examined for simulant gases with temperature in the range 200 to $400^{\circ}C$, with different gas concentrations. These sensors have high sensitivities more than $50\%$ at 500ppb concentration for test gases and also have shown good repetition tests. Four sensing materials are selected with good sensitivity and stability and are fabricated as a sensor array A sensor array Identities among the four simulant gases through the principal component analysis (PCA). High sensitivity is acquired by using the semiconductor thick film gas sensors and four CWA gases are classified by using a sensor array through PCA.
