  • Geopolymer concrete is a fastest developing field of research for utilizing industrial and agro waste materials as an alternative for Portland cement based concrete. Geopolymers are formed by the alkaline activation of aluminosilicates rich materials termed as geopolymerization. The process of geopolymerization requires elevated temperature curing which restricts its application to precast industry. This review summarizes the work carried out on developing the geopolymer concrete with the addition of various mineral admixtures at ambient curing temperature conditions. An overview of studies promoting the geopolymer concrete in general building construction is presented. Literature study revealed that geopolymer concrete with the addition of admixtures can exhibit desirable properties at ambient temperature conditions.

  • Contemporary architecture calls for a wide range of surface textures and treatments. A surface compatible with the architect's design may vary from a glass-smooth finish to one requiring special sculptured ornamentation. These surfaces require many different types of form sheathing and lining. Chemical retarders applied to the form surface make It possible to remove surface mortar and expose the aggregate after forms have been removed. Variation in finish may also be achieved by grinding, chiseling, hammering, and sandblasting after the concrete has set. Precast panels as forms or liners may provide the desired surface finish; sometimes a combination several of these techniques is used.

  • Using OpenSees as a framework, constitutive models of reinforced, prestressed and prestressed steel fiber concrete found by the panel tests have been implemented into a finite element program called Simulation of Concrete Structures (SCS) to predict the seismic behavior of shear-critical reinforced and prestressed concrete structures. The developed finite element program was validated by tests on prestressed steel fiber concrete beams under monotonic loading, post tensioned precast concrete column under reversed cyclic loading, framed shear walls under reversed cyclic loading or shaking table excitations, and a seven-story wall building under shake table excitations. The comparison of analytical results with test outcomes indicates good agreement.

  • 3-D wall panels are used in construction of exterior and interior bearing and non-load bearing walls and floors of building of all types of construction. Fast construction, thermal insulation, reduced labor expense and weight saving are the most well pronounced advantage of such precast system. When the structural performance is concerned, the main disadvantage of 3D panel, when used as floor slab, is their brittleness in flexure. The current study focuses on upgrading ductility and load carrying capacity of 3D slabs in two different ways; using additional tension reinforcement, and inserting a longitudinal concentrated beam. The research is carried on both experimentally and numerically. The structural performance in terms of load carrying capacity and flexural ductility are discussed in details. The obtained results could give better understanding and design consideration of such prefabricated system.

  • Precast Concrete apartments were main stream of domestic industrialized housing around 90's , and Steel Houses applying Steel Stud technique with light weighted steel have been dominant portion since 1995. On the other hand, various building techniques including Steel Stud method and highly prefabricated and industrialized Unit method are prevailing in developed countries like Japan. Steel stud and Unit Box have their own merits an demerits, but the more crucial aspect is that the constant design standard should be applied in each design procedure. It entails the necessity of industrial housing development on the Open System basis. In this study, the design standard for Unit house will be established coping with the established preparing standard for design specifications defined by Architectural Law and Promotion Law of Housing Construction. That is for design standard of industrialized private housing on the Open System basis.

  • An understanding of rheological property on cement paste is one of the important factor to design concrete such as High-fluidity Concrete (HFC) for a specific application. The HFC is a specially proportioned hydraulic cement concrete that enables the fresh concrete to flow easily into the forms and around the reinforcement and prestressing steel without vibration and segregation. Use of this type of concrete for the concrete building construction, manufacture of precast, prestressed bridge elements provides the benefits of increased rate of production and safety, reduced labor needs, and lower noise levels. This paper presents the performance of rheological properties of cement paste incorporating domestic high-water-reduced-admixture (HWRA) for an Ultra-high-fluidity concrete (UHFC). Investigation was carried out on cement pastes with combinations of various dosages of HWRA and water/cement ratios.

  • Modular construction is popular as a smart building system because it can shorten the construction period. This study proposed a precast concrete (PC) core system that can further shorten modular construction time. The system was developed and its structural performance was verified through computational analysis. The proposed PC core system is a complete PC construction method using dry bonding. The results of the study indicated that the proposed PC core system has structural stability and performance suitable for modular housing.

  • Recently, use of the precast concrete (PC) system, which can increase economy by minimizing field work, has rapidly increased. However, the PC system cannot exhibit structural performance under construction, specifically before integration between members. Furthermore, since it is difficult to secure the structural integrity of beam-column joints even after construction, the PC system is vulnerable to progressive collapse. In the PC system, various types of details for PC beam-column joints have been proposed, while the structural/construction details of PC system generally used in Korea differ from those of overseas PC systems. However, studies on the progressive collapse of the domestic PC system are limited. Thus, in this study, we investigated the structural/construction details of PC beam-column joints mainly used in Korea. Based on the investigation, for the prototype PC system with typical joint details, a nonlinear finite element analysis was carried out to evaluate its structural performance under progressive collapse. Further, a parametric study was performed, and the effect of the design parameters was investigated, to recommend a method to improve the progressive collapse resistance of the PC system.

  • This study was performed in order to develop of the new modular construction system. For the modular construction method that is currently applied in the country, it is very expensive in terms of material costs and fire resistance because it uses only the steel C-type beam. In order to overcome this, and the practical application of new steel-PC hybrid module construction system. Improvement and development of the cross-section of the structural beam member in order to be carried out first. An experiment was carried out by making three specimens. Experiment result, the composite beam was dominated by the horizontal shear failure. It was evaluated through a nonlinear analysis and experimental & theoretical for the structural performance the composite beam member.
