This paper presents an experimental study on the detection and location of nonlinear scattering source due to the presence of fatigue crack in a laboratory specimen. The proposed technique is based on a combination of nonlinear elastic wave spectroscopy(NEWS) and time reversal(TR) focusing approach. In order to focus on the nonlinear scattering position due to the fatigue crack, we employed only one transmitting transducer and one receiving transducer, taking advantage of long duration of reception signal that includes multiple linear scattering such as mode conversion and boundary reflections. NEWS technique was then used as a pre-treatment of TR for spatial focusing of reemitted second harmonic signal. The robustness of this approach was demonstrated on a cracked specimen and the nonlinear TR focusing behavior is observed on the crack interface from which the second harmonic signal was originated.

We have developed an on-line ultrasonic detector to monitor partial discharge in an operating transformer. The ultrasonic sensor has 150[KHz] resonance frequency and contains a pre-amplifier with 60[㏈] gain. The on-line ultrasonic detector has 50~300[KHz] frequency band-pass filter to remove electrical and mechanical noises from the transformer. This detector has an ultrasonic signal discrimination algorithm which discriminates ultrasonic signals due to partial discharge in a transformer. A moving average method of ultrasonic signal number was employed to effectively monitor the increasing trend of the partial discharge. This paper describes an experience of partial discharge detection in a 154[㎸] operating transformer using an ultrasonic detector. With regards to gas analysis in oil, C2H2 gas was produced with a warning level in this transformer We detected ultrasonic signals on the transformer steel wall, and estimated the position of partial discharge. With further inspection, we found carbonized marks due to partial discharge on the supporting bolt which fastens the windings.
This paper describes design method of control system with a pre-compensator using a neural network to compensate a error signal between a reference' signal and system response. The neural network which is used here is the mixed structure and it's algorithm is a back propagation that modify coupling coefficients. Applying this method to the position control system using DC servo motor as a driver, we verify the usefulness of this method with simulation.
The tone reservation method is one of the most effective pre-distortion methods for peak-to-average power ratio reduction in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. Its direct application to OFDM systems with offset quadrature amplitude modulation (OQAM) is, however, not effective. In this paper, two novel TR-based methods are proposed, specifically designed for OFDM/OQAM systems by taking into consideration the overlapping nature of OQAM signals. These two methods have different approaches to the generation of the peak-cancelling signal. The first one (overlapped scaling tone reservation) generates the peak-cancelling signal using a least squares approximation algorithm with possible adjacent symbol overlap; the second one (multi-kernel tone reservation) generates the peak-cancelling signal by using multiple impulse-like time domain kernels. It is shown by simulation that, when used in OFDM/OQAM systems, the proposed methods can provide better performance than the direct application of the existing controlled clipping tone reservation method, and even outperform the multi-block tone reservation method.
In this paper, we propose an efficient sparse signal recovery algorithm referred to as the matching pursuit with a tree pruning (TMP). Two key ingredients of TMP are the pre-selection to put a restriction on columns of the sensing matrix to be investigated and the tree pruning to eliminate unpromising paths from the search tree. In our analysis, we show that the sparse signal is accurately reconstructed when the sensing matrix satisfies the restricted isometry property. In our simulations, we confirm that TMP is effective in recovering sparse signals and outperforms conventional sparse recovery algorithms.
In this paper, we propose the localization algorithm for the cooperative behavior of the swarm robots based on WSN (Wireless Sensor Network). The proposed method is as follows: First, we measure positions of the L-bot (Leader robot) and F-bots (Follower robots) by using the APIT (Approximate Point In Triangle) and the RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indication). Second, we measure relative positions of the F-bots against the pre-measured position of the L-bot by using trilateration. Then, to revise a position error caused by noise of the wireless signal, we use the particle filter. Finally, we show the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed method though some simulations.
In this study, the heart rate variability(HRV) signal of operating patient was acquired according to anesthesia progress and identified to evaluation possibility of depth of anesthesia in each anesthesia stage. The HRV signal was analyzed time-frequency domain applied to Wigner-Ville distribution method, the characteristic parameters were extracted for evaluation of depth of anesthesia in each anesthesia stage. The progress of general anesthesia was divided into the states of pre-operation, induction of anesthesia, operation, awaking and post-operation.

Redox cycling in between the two working electrodes in an electrochemical cell can lead a great signal enhancement. In this work, we report on a systematic examination of current amplification along with the decrease in the gap distance of a nanogap device which was fabricated by the combination of photo and chemical lithography [1]. The gap distance was controlled by the chemical lithographic process of surfacecatalyzed growth of metallic layer on pre-defined electrodes with wider initial gap. Enhancement of the redox current of ferri/ferrocyanide was observed upon gap distance reduction and the current is amplified about a thousand times in this redox system when the gap distance was decreased from 200 nm to 30 nm. The experimental results were discussed on the basis of the cyclic voltammetry (CV), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
A method of dual-signal generation from two different enzymes was developed and utilized to simultaneously perform dual immunoassays in a single microwell. Two enzymes selected as tracers were horseradish peroxidase (HRP) and β-galactosidase (GAL). 3, 3', 5, 5'-Tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) and chlorophenolred-β-galactopyranoside (CPRG) as chromogenic substrates for the respective enzyme were used. Although the two enzymes showed their maximum activities at distinct pH conditions (pH 5.1 for HRP and 7.5 for GAL), the enzyme reactions were able to be concurrently carried out at pH 5.75 in a dual-substrate solution without signal loss. This performance was achieved by increasing TMB concentration two-fold, introducing potassium salt as activator of GAL reaction, and extending total reaction time 50%. The signal generation method was then used for dual-enzyme immunoassays to detect antibodies with co-immobilized Hepatitis C virus antigens (core and NS5) and a Hepatitis B virus antigen (PreS(2)) in a microwell. Dose-response curves of the assays revealed cooperativity between different antigen-antibody complex formation, which suggested that dual immunoassays can only be used for qualitative screening tests unless the antigens immobilized were spatially separated.
Experimental results and data of numerical simulations are presented, concerning generation of wideband radio frequency (RF) oscillations in a nonlinear transmission line (NLTL) which contains a pre-magnetized core of ferrite material. Emphasis is made on the means for extracting the RF signal from the line, in order to radiate it into free space. Antennas of two types that can be used for the purpose are considered, both featuring a coaxial design. This permits availing of the principal advantages of coaxial systems, such as operation in the mode of a traveling TEM wave; wide range of the transmitted frequencies, and a reasonably simple design. The antennas studied, specifically a disc-cone dipole (DCD) and an impulse reflector antenna ('Half-IRA', or HIRA type) differ significantly in effective width of the radiated spectrum and in spatial characteristics of the radiated field in far region.
