The microstructure and crack tip opening displacement (CTOD) of deposit weld metal were investigated for a 30 mm- thick plate welded with flux cored arc welding (FCAW) and submerged arc welding (SAW) processes. The CTOD test was carried out both as welded condition and as stress-relieved specimen by local compression. The crack growth rates in FCAW were faster than those in a SAW, and the acicular ferrite content by the SAW process was increased relatively more than that by the FCAW process. The fatigue crack growth rate in a welded specimen was faster than that in locally compressed specimen. The CTOD value of locally compressed specimens was lower than that of as welded specimen. Furthermore, the CTOD value tested with the SAW process was higher than that tested with the FCAW process.
Twelve varieties of Korean rice and ten varieties of Japanese rice were selected. After being milled. they were analyzed about various physicochemical properties such as moisture, protein and amylose, a -amylase activity, gelatinization properties. And after being cooked with proper amount of water texture and other physical properties were measured by Texturometer, Tensipresser and Rheolograph-micro. Finally the sensory evaluation test was carried out. The results were as follows. 1. In case of protein contents, amylose contents and $\alpha$-amylase activity, Korean rice had a slightly higher value than Japanese As a consequence. Korean rice showed a little stronger hardness and a little weaker stickiness compared with Japanese rice. 2. Amylose contents showed very high correlation with other physicochemical properties and peak viscosity and gelatinization temperature of RVA, the ratio of stickiness to hardness( -Hl/Hl ) of Texturometer and the tan $\delta$(the ratio of dynamic loss to dynamic viscoelasticity) of Rheolograph-micro showed high correlation with other analyzed properties. 3. The ( -/+)work balance of low compression test(25% ) of Tensipresser analysis(texture analysis on the surface of cooked rice) and tan f of Rheolograph-micro showed very high correlation with sensory evaluation results. By using this parameters as major independent variables, some trials to derive high confidence multiple regression equations were accomplished. By the equations it would be possible to make an approximate pre-estimate of eating quality for unknown japonica rice.
Force-deformation modelling of cracked reinforced concrete is essential for a displacement-based seismic assessment of structures and can be achieved by fibre-element analysis of the cross-section of the major lateral resisting elements. The non-linear moment curvature relationship obtained from fibre-element analysis takes into account the significant effects of axial pre-compression and contributions by the longitudinal reinforcement. Whilst some specialised analysis packages possess the capability of incorporating fibre-elements into the modelling (e.g., RESPONSE 2000), implementation of the analysis on EXCEL is illustrated in this paper. The outcome of the analysis is the moment-curvature relationship of the wall cross-section, curvature at yield and at damage control limit states specified by the user. Few software platforms can compete with EXCEL in terms of its transparencies, versatility and familiarity to the computer users. The program has the capability of handling arbitrary cross-sections that are without an axis of symmetry. Application of the program is illustrated with examples of typical cross-sections of structural walls. The calculated limiting curvature for the considered cross-sections were used to construct displacement profiles up the height of the wall for comparison with the seismically induced displacement demand.
Accurate estimations of pre-failure deformations and post-failure responses of geostructures require that the simulation tool possesses at least three main ingredients: 1) a constitutive model that is able to describe the macroscopic stress-strain-strength behavior of soils subjected to complex stress/strain paths over a wide range of confining pressures and densities, 2) an embedded length scale that accounts for the intricate physical phenomena that occur at the grain size scale in the soil, and 3) a computational platform that allows the analysis to be carried out beyond the development of an initially "contained" failure zone in the soil. In this paper, a two-scale micropolar plasticity model will be used to incorporate all these ingredients. The model is implemented in a finite element platform that is based on the mechanics of micropolar continua. Appropriate finite elements are developed to couple displacement, micro-rotations, and pore-water pressure in form of $u_n-{\phi}_m$ and $u_n-p_m-{\phi}_m$ (n > m) elements for analysis of dry and saturated soils. Performance of the model is assessed in a biaxial compression test on a slightly heterogeneous specimen of sand. The role of micropolar component of the model on capturing the post-failure response of the soil is demonstrated.
An investigation on spray characteristics of fuels which diesel and di-methyl ether (DME) with change of injection pressure used the multi-injection in constant volume combustion chamber (CVCC). Diesel was already used famous fuel which we could use. DME showed similar features with diesel like as cetane number, auto-ignition temperature. High cetane number of diesel and DME could make possible to compression ignition. DME showed different atomization from diesel due to evaporating pressures and boiling points. Experiments were carried out in CVCC equipped with Delphi solenoid 6-hole type injector and the spray characteristics of diesel and DME were tested the various pre and pilot injection. Terms of injections and a number of injections in multi-injection has been controlled. Experiments were performed in 2 types that 1500 rpm, 2000 rpm and under the condition of injection ranging from 100 bar to 500 bar. From the results of this experiment diesel showed longer spray penetration than DME. That result showed different of atomization speed DME and diesel. Result of high injection pressure condition showed similar spray characteristics diesel and DME. After this investigation, new conditions and experiments using laser light to go forward and add the fuels like as the biodiesel and diesel and DME blend.

This study was experimentally investigated on the effects of spring stiffness applied to linear compressor chambers. The springs prevented piston head from colliding with engine cover, stored the kinetic energy and regenerated the kinetic energy. The linear engine has two combustion chambers and four compressor chamber. The combustion chamber bore size was 30 mm, maximum stroke was 31 mm and effective stroke volume was 25.45 cc respectively. The spring stiffness was varied such as 0, 0.5, 1.00, 2.9 and 14.7 N/mm. The linear engine was fueled with premixed LPG (propane 99%) and air by pre-mixture device. As an experimental result, The stroke, piston velocity and the piston frequency were increased by high spring stiffness. Also, thermal efficiency was grown. because the increased stroke made the higher compression ratio. In conclusion, electric power and efficiency were improved.
Thin-walled cross-sections can be optimized to enhance their resistance and progress their behaviour, leading to more competent and inexpensive structural system. The aim of this study is to afford a methodology that would facilitate progress of optimized cold formed steel (CFS) column section with maximum ultimate strength for practical applications. The proposed sections are designed to comply with the geometrical standards of pre-qualified column standards for CFS structures as well as with the number of industrialized and practical constraints. The stiffening evaluation process of CFS lipped channel columns, a five different cross section are considered. The experimental strength and behaviour of the proposed sections are verified by using the finite element analysis (FEA). A series comprehensive parametric study is carried out covering a wide range of section slenderness and overall slenderness ratio of the CFS column with and without intermediate web stiffeners. The ultimate strength of the sections is determined based on the Direct Strength Specification and other design equation available from the literature for CFS structures. A modified design method is proposed for the DSM specification. The results indicate that the CFS column with complex edge and intermediate web stiffeners provides an ultimate strength which is up to 78% higher than standard optimized shapes with the same amount of cross sectional area.
Although the mechanism of hemifacial spasm (HFS) is not yet well established, vascular compression of the facial nerve root exit zone and hyperexcitability of the facial nucleus have been suggested. We report a case of HFS in the setting of coinciding intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) of the pons and proximal ligation of the contralateral vertebral artery (VA) for the treatment of a fusiform aneurysm of the distal VA and discuss the possible etiologies of HFS in this patient. A 51-year-old male with an ICH of the pons was admitted to our hospital. Neuroimaging studies revealed an incidental fusiform aneurysm of the right VA distal to the origin of the posterior inferior cerebellar artery. Eight months after proximal ligation of the VA the patient presented with intermittent spasm of the left side of his face. Pre- and post-ligation magnetic resonance angiography revealed an enlarged diameter of the VA. The spasm completely disappeared after microvascular decompression.
API steel is used for line-pipe to transport the oil and natural gas. As the recent trends in the development of API steel are towards the use of larger diameter and thicker plate, many researches have been studied to achieve higher strength, higher toughness and lower yield ratio in API steel. However, the strength of API steel after pipe forming is changed depending on the competition of the Bauschinger effect and work hardening which are affected by the strain history during pipe forming process. So, the purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of microstructure on the Bauschinger effect for API steel. To change the microstructure of API steel we have changed the hot rolling condition and the amounts of V and Cu addition. The compression-tensile test and the microstructure observation by OM and TEM were conducted to investigate the yield strength drop and the correlation between the Bauschinger effect and microstructure of API steel. The experimental results show that the increase of polygonal ferrites volume fraction increases the Baushcinger effect due to the back stress which comes from the increase of mobile dislocation density at polygonal ferrite interior during the compressive deformation. The hot rolling condition was more effective on the Bauschinger effect in API steel than the small amount of V and Cu addition.
A large diameter sampler that can take undisturbed samples from soft ground was developed by KICT. In order to compare the quality of samples taken by the sampler with those of the traditional piston sampler, a series of laboratory tests were performed. Samples were taken at different sites such as Incheon, Gimhae, Yangsan and Busan. The results showed that the values of unconfined compression strength, secant modulus, pre-consolidation pressure, undrained shear strength, and shear modulus exhibited higher in samples taken by the large scale sampler. Strains at shear failure and volumetric strains were low for the new sampler. It was proved from the comparison that better quality samples could be obtained by the KICT sampler.
