Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the educational needs of ICU nurses based on an analysis of importance, frequency, and difficulty for ICU nursing practice. Method: A cross-sectional survey was conducted using a questionnaire with 80 questions in 14 ICU nursing categories. Data were collected from August to October 2009. A total of 295 ICU nurses from five hospitals who had minimum of one year clinical experience participated. Data were analyzed with using descriptive statistics. Results: For importance, emergency care had the highest score, followed by physical assessment, communication, cardiovascular care, and ICU basic nursing. Regarding the frequency, physical assessment had the highest score, followed by communication, medication, ICU basic nursing, and respiratory care. Cardiovascular care was the most difficult task, followed by neurological care, emergency care, other ICU related nursing care, diagnostic test, and communication. Conclusion: The findings indicate a high educational need in the areas of communication, medication, physical assessment, diagnostic test, emergency care, and cardiovascular care. Thus the development of educational programs on communication, medication, physical assessment, diagnostic test, emergency care, and cardiovascular care are needed for ICU nurses.
Purpose: The purposes of this study were to determine the core nursing interventions in nursing notes and the practice which was perceived by nurses of an oncology unit with patients with terminal cancer. Also, comparing interventions in nursing notes with interventions in perceived practice was done. Method: Subjects were 44 nursing records of patients with terminal cancer who had died from Jan. to Dec. 2002 at C University Hospital and 83 nurses who were working on an oncology unit for more than one year. Data was collected using a Nursing Interventions Classification and analyzed by means of mean and t-test. Results: The most frequent nursing intervention was 'nausea management' in the nursing note and was 'medication administration: oral' in perceived practice. The frequency of nursing interventions in the nursing record was lower than in perceived practice. Conclusion: This study finds that nurses actually practice nursing care, but they may omit records. To correct for omitted nursing records, development of a systematic nursing record system, continuous education and feedback is recommended.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate foot ulcer risk factors, foot care knowledge, and foot care practice in patients with type 2 diabetes. Method: One hundred fifty type 2 diabetic patients were in and out-patients in a large urban hospital. The data were collected using a self-report questionnaire, chart review and foot examination. The questionnaires were developed by the researchers through the experts consultation and literature review. High risk for foot ulcer was evaluated by peripheral neuropathy(PN), peripheral vascular disease(PVD), and prior foot ulcer. Foot risk scores(FRS) means numbers of present risk factors. Results: 31.3% of subjects show 1 FRS, and 13.3% showed 2 FRS. Mean foot care frequency was 3.5 times per week. There were significant differences in foot care knowledge according to DM education (t=2.96, p=.004) and foot care education (t=3.65, p=.001). There were significant differences in the foot care practice activities according to duration of DM (t=3.48, p=.010) and educational levels. Conclusion: There were high proportion of foot ulcer risk among the patients. It is necessary to screen high risk foot ulcer patients and provide practical education for foot care practice of diabetic patients.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between knowledge of breast feeding and practice of feeding pattern. A sample of 117 mothers who have the babies between age from 1 month to 12 months were selected from one university hospital and one public heath care center in J city. The data were collected with the questionnaire during the period from the January. 5, 2002 through January. 30, 2002. Analysis was done by using frequency, percentage, t-test, analysis of variance, and scheffe test. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. Comparision of the method of feeding by general characters. Income state, rearing (p=.019), rearing supporters(p=.026), infant age(p=.03) have shown significant difference as the variables affecting Breast practice rate. Breastfeeding rate were 24.8%, mixedfeeding type, 14.5%, milkfeeding type, 60.7%. The mean of knowledge on breastfeeding by feeding patterns were the highest in the group of breastfeeding. There was statistical significance between the group of breast feeding and milkfeeding(p=.000). In the conclusion, this study revealed that knowledge of breastfeeding promoted practice of breastfeeding. Therefore, to promote practice of breastfeeding, it is necessary that nurses provide adequate information about knowledge of breastfeeding.
This study was done to identify the effectiveness of applying a 'Nursing Process Program' to the nursing students' clinical practice. The data collection period was from September 2000 to January 2001, and the subjects of the study were 39 students who were doing clinical practice in the ICU. The results are as follows : 1. Most subjects had a personal computer, had experience in using computers for one year and usually did word processing and internet, and wanted computerization of nursing work. The average results of the questions on the need for, and the effectiveness of applying a 'Nursing Process Program' to clinical practice were, on five point scales, 4.07 and 4.21 respectively. 2. There were no significant differences in the mean scores for suhjects' attitudes toward computers and computer anxiety between before and after using a 'Nursing Process Program'. 3. The total case study frequency using a 'Nursing Process Program' was 68, and 'Risk for infection' was the most frequent nursing diagnosis.
Background: Students in the department of dental hygiene are exposed to injections and sharp instruments during clinical practice. Therefore, it is necessary to develop measures for a safe practice environment. This study aimed to investigate dental stabbing accidents caused by dental instruments during clinical practice among students in the department of dental hygiene and suggest appropriate preventative measures. Methods: This study was conducted from May 1 to June 30, 2016, with students in the department of dental hygiene located at several universities in Seoul and Gyeonggi area. The study included 339 participants. A frequency analysis was performed to determine the general characteristics of dental infection control. A cross-analysis was conducted to identify the relationship between dental infection control education, stabbing accident prevention education, and treatment after stabbing accidents with a dental instrument. Results: Among the participants, 81.1% received dental infection control education and 66.4% received stabbing accident prevention education. Only 50.9% received hepatitis B vaccinations. Conclusion: Dental infection control education and stabbing accident prevention education were shown to be effective in preventing dental instrument stabbing in students. However, post-accident processing, such as reporting to upper management and medical treatment after the accident, was insufficient. Therefore, it is necessary to present a treatment flowchart for dealing with stab accidents in clinical practice for students in the department of dental hygiene and strengthen education.
Objectives: This study aims to determine the relationship between sedentary behavior and oral health factors in adolescents. Methods: Based on the data from the online survey on youth health behaviors, general characteristics, sedentary behavior was classified as practiced for less than 2 hours, and not practiced for more than 2 hours, and oral health was classified brush teeth after lunch, sealant, oral symptoms. The analysis methods were complex frequency analysis, complex chi-square test, and complex logistic regression analysis. Results: In case of brush teeth after lunch during the week, those who practiced it was 1,025 times higher than those who did not practice it, and in the case of oral symptoms practice was 0.915 times lower than not practice. As a result of adjusted general characteristics, for brushing teeth after lunch during the week, practice was 1,090 times higher than no practice. Conclusions: The relationship between sedentary behavior and oral health behavior and oral symptoms could be confirmed. Therefore oral health promotion programs according to sedentary behavior are needed to promote oral health for adolescents.
The study was done to improve the job training course for Community Health Practioners (CHPs) by evaluating the level of help that the training provided to the CHPs in carrying out their work and to analyze the management activities of the CHPs in order to develop a more effective CHP training program. The methodologies used in the study were a questionnaire survey. The survey results were analyzed using SPSS Windows. The study results are as follows. 1. The total average level of help from the job training(Theory. Practice and Field Practice) for carrying out the CHP work was found to be $3.04\pm.53$ (of a possible 4), which indicates a high level of help. The average for clinical practices was $3.16\pm.60$. for theory. $3.11\pm.40$ and for field practice. $2.84\pm.60$. 2. For the theory content of the job training courses. the help level was low in the area of mother and child health management/family planning with an average of $2.65\pm.62$ and in the area of health information system development with an average of $2.62\pm.83$. The reason for these deficiencies were. in order of frequency. few opportunities to apply learning. training content that was inadequate. training methodologies which were incongruent with content. improper training items and insufficient class hours. For the practice. the clinical work in rehabilitation/orthopedics departments and in ENT/Opthalmology departments had averages of $2.96\pm.86$ and $2.97\pm.80$ respectively. This low level resulted from the lack of direct experience. lack of sincerity during the practice time. lack of practice guidance. insufficient time and lack of practice equipment. in that order. For the field practice. the delivery management averaged $2.06\pm.90$ as the lowest help level. In this case 68% of respondents replied that there were no relevant reasons for this deficiency. 21% responsed that there was a lack of direct experience, 7%, a lack of practice guidance and 4.8%, insufficient time. 3. There were significant differences for several demographic variables when comparing the help level of the clinical courses (practice and Field Practice). A higher help level was reported by older nurses as compared to younger ones, experienced nurses as compared to scholarship nurses, and married over single. Also for nurses who had finished more other programs and were qualified or licensed in several areas the level was high. Although it was not statistically significant the level was higher if the work area was in a rural county, not a city, and if one had more recently completed the job training(P<,05). 4. Of the respondents 58.6% replies stated the period of job training for the CHP was adequate, but 51.7% reported that the period for theory courses was too short while an other 48.3% responded that it was sufficient. For practice locations, 50% responsed that it was good to practice in medical institutions(primary, secondary and tertiary) at the same time. While 48.3% agreed that doing theory and practice simultaneously was good, and 56.9% agreed that field practice should be done after completing theory and practice training. Hence, the development of new field practice guidelines suitable for changing environments of health management are required in place of the existing ones which were considered low in help level to the practical work of the CHPs.

These results should be provide fundamental information for improving of housing education contents in Technology Home Economics Subject.
Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the effects of simulation-based practice using standardized patients for the care of woman with postpartum hemorrhage as related to clinical performance competence and critical thinking deposition of nursing students. Methods: A nonequivalent control group pre-post test experimental design was used. Fifty four third year students were recruited, 29 students for the experimental group and 25 students for the control group. The simulation-based practice about nursing care related to postpartum hemorrhage included skill training, team-based practice, and debriefing. It was implemented with the experimental group for about 30 minutes in October 6, 2011. Data were analyzed using frequency, ratio, chi-square, Fisher's exact probability, and t-test using the SPSS/WIN program. Results: The experimental group who had the simulation-based practice showed significantly higher knowledge and skills of clinical performance competence than the control group (t=2.19, p=.003). But the experimental group who had the simulation-based practice did not show significantly higher critical thinking deposition than the control group (t=-0.32, p=.748). Conclusion: The results indicate that a simulation-based practice is an effective teaching method to improve knowledge and skills for clinical performance competence of nursing students. Further study is needed to identify the effect of a simulation-based practice on nursing attitudes.
