Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop visions of nursing service, nursing strategies and key performance indicators (KPIs) for an intensive care unit (ICU) based on a Balanced Scorecard (BSC). Methods: This study was undertaken by using methodological research. The development process consisted of four phases; the first phase was to develop the vision of nursing in ICUs. The second phase was to develop strategies according to 4 perspectives of a BSC. The third phase was to develop KPIs according to the 4 perspectives of BSC and the final phase was to combine the nursing visions, strategies and KPIs of ICUs. Results: Two main visions of nursing service for ICUs were established. These were 'realization of harmonized professional nursing with human respect' and 'recovery of health through specialized nursing' respectively. In order to reach the aim of developing nursing visions, thirteen practical strategies and nineteen KPIs were developed by four perspectives of the BSC. Conclusion: The results will be used as objective fundamental data to attain business outcomes for the achievement of nursing visions and strategies of ICUs.

Social media marketing has gained attention from marketers due to the growing number of social media users. Marketers around the globe have a serious concern over how to utilize social media as a successful marketing tool. Many of them show a lack of understanding of the essential feature of social media and effective social media marketing strategies, which brings about a higher chance of social media marketing failures. Analyzing the failure cases of social media marketing is vital because it provides rich insights for marketing experts who have difficulty in developing effective social media marketing strategies. Therefore, this study conducted multiple case studies by selecting five failure cases of social media marketing which we defined as paradigmatic social media marketing failures which happened in the last five years in South Korea. From the case studies, we derived five successful social media marketing strategies. This study has a theoretical implication because it is the first to suggest effective social media marketing strategies based on the analysis on social media marketing failure cases. It also has a practical implication since it proposes specific social media marketing strategies which can help facilitate successful social media marketing.

This study is aimed to find out which factors among firm-specific resources, industry-based competition, and institutional conditions affect strategies for Korean IT manufacturing companies when they expand their business overseas, especially to Vietnam in this study. Also, it attempts to reveal which strategies among cost reduction, mass production, and localization affect performance of overseas expansion. Based on Strategy Tripod Theory as an integrating point-of-view embracing resource-based view, industry-based view, and institution-based view, research model was developed and tested through the survey of 83 Korean IT manufacturing companies expanded their business to Vietnam. Research findings show that (1) communication competency, industry competitiveness, industry attractiveness, and regulation of partner country affect cost reduction strategy. (2) International experience, communication competency, international orientation, and competitiveness is significantly associated with mass production strategy. (3) And international experience, communication competency, and industry competitiveness affect localization. (4) Ultimately, mass production strategy and localization strategy significantly increase performance of expansion to Vietnam. The theoretical contribution of this study is to adopt an integrative approach based on strategy tripod theory. As practical implications, it suggests factors and strategies that IT manufacturing companies interested in expansion to Vietnam should consider. In sum, we believe this study can contribute to Korean IT manufacturing industry by suggesting key success factors and appropriate strategies for overseas expansion.

Five and above engineering courses were selected from each of exemplary international MOOC platforms, and common e-learning design strategies were drawn out through observing the courses and analyzing the course elements. By finding out both macro(platform) and micro(content) levels of designing strategies, this study suggests the direction for designing engineering courses incorporating e-learning nationally. The major trend of current e-learning design is to provide bite-sized contents rapidly created and to deploy instructional strategies for promoting student participation in learning and diverse and contextualized learning experiences.

In this paper, we study the role of cooperative relays to provide and improve secure communication rates through decodeand-forward (DF) strategies in a full-duplex multiple relay network with an eavesdropper. We consider the DF scheme as a basis for cooperation and propose several strategies that implement different versions of this scheme suited for cooperation with multiple relays. Our goal is to give an efficient cooperation paradigm based on the DF scheme to provide and improve secrecy in a multiple relay network. We first study the DF strategy for secrecy in a single relay network. We propose a suboptimal DF with zero forcing (DF/ZF) strategy for which we obtain the optimal power control policy. Next, we consider the multiple relay problem. We propose three different strategies based on DF/ZF and obtain their achievable secrecy rates. The first strategy is a single hop strategy whereas the other two strategies are multiple hop strategies. In the first strategy, we show that it is possible to eliminate all the relays' signals from the eavesdropper's observation (full ZF), however, the achievable secrecy rate is limited by the worst source-relay channel. Our second strategy overcomes the drawback of the first strategy, however, with the disadvantage of enabling partial ZF only. Our third strategy provides a reasonable compromise between the first two strategies. That is, in this strategy, full ZF is possible and the rate achieved does not suffer from the drawback of the first strategy. We conclude our study by a set of numerical results to illustrate the performance of each of the proposed strategies in terms of the achievable rates in different practical scenarios.

Recently, increasing demand for teacher professional development and significant advances in information and communication technologies has led to a proliferation of online professional development. In spite of online professional development's popularity and advantages, research indicates that there is a concern of considerably high dropout rates of online learners. Therefore, to reduce the dropout rates of the learners, this paper is designed to help teachers identify professional development opportunities that are tailored to their needs as well as successfully complete these learning experiences. To achieve the purpose of the study, the paper explores the considerations for evaluating the characteristics of online learners and online professional development. Using these evaluations, this paper provides practical strategies for helping elementary and secondary education teachers successfully complete online professional development without dropping out an online course.

Purpose: This was a descriptive correlation study to identify emergency room (ER) nurses' coping types and factors affecting compassion satisfaction (CS) and compassion fatigue. Methods: During March and April 2013, 170 questionnaires were distributed to ER nurses working in general hospitals in D and C regions. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis, and stepwise regression analysis. Results: Compassion fatigue was most strongly affected by emotional expression for burnout and by practical support pursuit for secondary traumatic stress. Positive coping, emotional expression, position, positive reinterpretation, and self-blame explained 42% of CS. Conclusion: Results indicate that nurses with moderate levels of career had high compassion fatigue and low compassion satisfaction. Thus these nurses need to be given an opportunity to achieve self-development and improve their ability as nurses; interventions that can reinforce positive coping strategies should be provided as personal coping strategies affect compassion fatigue and compassion satisfaction.

This paper discusses practical strategies for transition from a pinching to a power grasping, where a multi-fingered hand mounted on a robotic arm envelops a cylindrical object on a table. When the manipulation system grasps a cylindrical object like a pen on a desk, a complete enveloping is not impossible in the initial configuration. The system firstly pinches the object only with two or three fingers and then grasp it with fingers and a palm after regrasping. In this pinching-grasping transition maneuver, human unconsciously selects proper strategy according to some conditions including object dimensions and initial pinching positions. In this paper we therefore develop six possible strategies for this pinching-grasping transition and then investigate their performances for some objects with various dimensions and various grasping positions, using numerical simulations. Based on their results, effective strategies are implemented by using a hand-arm system.

The three different approaches (reformulations) of evolution strategies (ESs) have been proposed in the literature as extensions of the technique for solving discrete problems. This study implements an extensive research on application, evaluation and comparison of them in discrete optimum design of steel frames. A unified formulation is first developed to explain these approaches, so that differences and similarities between their inherent search mechanisms can clearly be identified. Two examples from practical design of steel frames are studied next to measure their performances in locating the optimum. Extensive numerical experimentations are performed in both examples to facilitate a statistical analysis of their convergence characteristics. The results obtained are presented in the histograms demonstrating the distribution of the best designs located by each approach. In addition, an average improvement of the best design during the course of evolution is plotted in each case to compare their relative convergence rates.
