  • In the operation of a power system, the security of the system has acquired significant importance to supply electric power of better quality. The State Estimator, a part of security functions, provides a complete real time solution estimate of the steady-state conditions of the power system for use by the Real Time Network Analysis functions. This paper briefly introduces the Fast Decoupled Weighted Least Square State Estimator which is adopted in the KEPCO EMS with features of Man-Machine Interface.

  • Frequency and phasor are the most important quantities in power system operation because they can reflect the whole power system situation. Frequency reflects the dynamic energy balance between load and generating power, while operators use phasor to constitute the state of system and, moreover, phasor based line relays are currently used in most power systems. So frequency and phasor are regarded as indices for the operating power systems in practice. The proposed technique is suitable for estimation near-nominal, nomina), and off-nominal frequencies. It is useful in designing microprocessor-based relays and meters that need to measure power system frequency. Performance test results, using signals from EMTP source and Excel program, indicate that the proposed technique can provide accurate estimates within 16ms. Maximum estimation errors observed during testing are of the order of 0.006Hz for nominal, near-nominal, and off-nominal frequencies. The proposed technique provides accurate estimates in presence of noise and harmonics and in case ground fault. The rate change of the phase angle is used for estimation. To confirm the validity of the proposed algorithm, the simulation studies carried out on a typical 154[KV] double T/L system by using EMTP software. Some test results are presented in the paper.

  • This paper presents a algorithm to improve accuracy and reliability in state estimation of contaminated bad data. The conventional algorithms for detection of bad data confront the problems of excessive memory requirements and long computation time. In order to overcome measurement compensation approach is proposed to reduce computation time and partitioned measurement error model has the advantage of remarkable reduction in computation time and memory requirements in estimated error computation. The proposed algorithm has been tested for IEEE sample systems, which shows its applicability to on-line power systems.

  • This paper presents an algorithm to improve accuracy and reliability in the state estimation of contaminated bad data. The conventional algorithms for detection of bad data have the problems of excessive memory requirements and long computation time. In order to overcome these problems, a measurement compensation approach is proposed to reduce computation time, and the partitioned measurement error model has the advantage of remarkable reduction in computation time and memory requirements in estimated error computation.   • Distributed generation (DG) is predicted to play an increasing role in the electric power system of the near future. Distributed generation is by definition that is of limited size (roughly 10MW or less) and interconnected at the substation, distribution feeder or customer load levels. The effects of generation sources within a distribution network on the system losses are investigated in this paper. WLAV state estimation is performed with the composite distribution system containing DG. Simulations with test cases are performed and the results are presented, using IEEE34 bus radial distribution system.

  • 최대전력점 추적기는 태양광 발전시스템의 대표적인 기능이다. 최대 전력점을 추종하기 위해서는 태양전지의 전압과 전류의 측정을 필요로 한다. 만약 측정 신호에 노이즈가 포함되어 있으면 발생되는 전력이 감소되어 태양광 발전의 효율이 감소하게 된다. 노이즈가 포함된 신호에 확장 칼만 필터 이론을 적용하여 최적의 추정된 신호를 얻어 낼 수 있다. 칼만 필터는 랜덤 노이즈가 포함된 신호에서 최적의 신호를 얻어내는데 사용된다. 또한 칼만 필터의 적용결과로 인덕터 전류와 같은 측정하지 않는 신호도 센서리스 추정이 가능하다. 본 논문에서는 시스템 모델링 방법과 확장 칼만 필터 설계 방법이 소개된다. 실험 결과로서 제안된 제어기의 성능을 확인하였다.

  • Existence of leverage points was claimed to be the reason for the WLAV estimator failing to reject bad data in the measurements. This paper presents an impact of leverage points on the result of power system state estimation. State estimator is run with measurement sets with gross error and leverage point. Three test cases are performed and the results are presented using IEEE 30 bus system.

Accurate Voltage Parameter Estimation for Grid Synchronization in Single-Phase Power Systems

  • This paper presents an adaptive observer-based approach to estimate voltage parameters, including frequency, amplitude, and phase angle, for single-phase power systems. In contrast to most existing estimation methods of grid voltage parameters, in this study, grid voltage is treated as a dynamic system related to an unknown grid frequency. Based on adaptive observer theory, a full-order adaptive observer is proposed to estimate voltage parameters. A Lyapunov function-based argument is employed to ensure that the proposed estimation method of voltage parameters has zero steady-state error, even when frequency varies or phase angle jumps significantly. Meanwhile, a reduced-order adaptive observer is designed as the simplified version of the proposed full-order observer. Compared with the frequency-adaptive virtual flux estimation, the proposed adaptive observers exhibit better dynamic response to track the actual grid voltage frequency, amplitude, and phase angle. Simulations and experiments have been conducted to validate the effectiveness of the proposed observers.

이득 보상에 의한 개선된 주파수 추정 알고리즘 (Advanced Frequency Estimation Technique using Gain Compensation)

  • Frequency is an important operating parameter of a power system. Due to the sudden change in generation and loads or faults in power system, the frequency is supposed to deviate from its nominal value. It is essential that the frequency of a power system be maintained very close to its nominal frequency. And monitoring and an accurate estimation of the power frequency by timing synchronized signal provided by FDR is essential to optimum operation and prevention for wide area blackout. As most conventional frequency estimation schemes are based on DFT filter, it has been pointed out that the gain error by change in magnitude could cause the defects when the power frequency is deviated from nominal value. In this paper, an advanced frequency estimation scheme using gain compensation for fault disturbance recorders (FDR) is presented. The proposed scheme can reduce the gain error caused when the power frequency is deviated from nominal value. Various simulation using both the data from EMTP package and user's defined arbitrary signals are performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme can provide better accuracy and higher robustness to harmonics and noise under both steady state tests and dynamic conditions.
