  • "Manggaedduk" produced specially in Uiryeong province, Gyeongnam, Korea is manufactured by traditional method using rice powder, sweet azuki bean paste, and leaves of Smilax china (called as Manggae-leaf). Moisture content of leaves did not show significant differences bay salt and purified salt treatment. The content was lower as the salt concentration increased. Shear force was higher in leaf salted with purified salt at room temperature than that salted with bay salt. On the other hands, the force was more higher in the leaves salted with bay salt at low temperature ($4^{\circ}C$). The shear force was higher as the concentration of both salts used for salting solution increased. As storage period was extended, shear force of salted leaf was weakened. Whiteness (L) and yellowness (b) of leaves stored at room temperature were higher than those stored at $4^{\circ}C$, although the redness (a) of Hunter value was not significantly different between storage temperatures. Salt concentration influenced lightness and yellowness, color of salted leaves stored at $4^{\circ}C$ resulted in enhanced greenness as compared to the leaves stored at room temperature. Thus, this study investigated the optimal storage conditions, salting conditions and storage temperatures of Smilax china leaves.

  • In this study, we determine the optimal process conditions for selectively recovering Si from a solar cell surface by removal of impurities (Al, Zn, Ag, etc.). To selectively recover Si from solar cells, leaching is performed using HCl solution and an ultrasonic cleaner. After leaching, the solar cells are washed using distilled water and dried in an oven. Decompression filtration is performed on the HCl solution, and ICP-OES (Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission spectroscopy) full scan analysis is performed on the filtered solution. Furthermore, XRD (X-ray powder diffraction), XRF (X-ray fluorescence), and ICP-OES are performed on the dried solar cells after crushing, and the purity and recovery rate of Si are obtained. In this experiment, the concentration of acid solution, reaction temperature, reaction time, and ultrasonic intensity are considered as variables. The results show that the optimal process conditions for the selective recovery of Si from the solar cells are as follows: the concentration of acid solution = 3 M HCl, reaction temperature = 60℃, reaction time = 120 min, and ultrasonic intensity = 150 W. Further, the Si purity and recovery rate are 99.85 and 99.24%, respectively.

  • Purpose: In this study, we intended to study the change in bond strength according to the thermal cycling of provisional resin and 3D printed resin for making provisional restoration. Materials and Methods: Through DLP method, 3D printed resin powder was used to produce 3D printed resin samples. The samples were grouped into eight groups, according to types of provisional resin (PMMA, bis-acryl resin) which is to be bonded on the samples and numbers of thermal cycling (control, 2,000, 3,000, 5,000 cycles). Shear bond strength of the bonded samples was measured on the universal testing machine. Results: As the number of thermal cycling increased, the shear bond strength of PMMA and bis-acryl resin for 3D printed resins decreased except between 3,000 cycles and 5,000 cycles in PMMA groups. In the PMMA group, there were significant differences in shear bond strength between less number than 3,000 cycles (P < 0.05) and no significant differences between more number than 3,000 cycles (P > 0.05). In the bis-acryl resin group, there were significant differences in shear bond strength between control and 2,000 cycles, control and 3,000 cycles, and control and 5,000 cycles (P < 0.05), no significant difference between 2,000 and 3,000 cycles, between 3,000 and 5,000 cycles (P > 0.05). Conclusion: The shear bond strength between 3D printed resin and provisional resin tended to decrease after thermal cycling.

  • Metal oxide nanostructures are promising materials for advanced applications, such as high sensitive gas sensors, and high capacitance lithium-ion batteries. In this study, tin oxide (SnO) nanostructures were grown on a Si wafer substrate using a two-zone horizontal furnace system for a various substrate temperatures. The raw material of tin dioxide ($SnO_2$) powder was vaporized at $1070^{\circ}C$ in an alumina crucible. High purity Ar gas, as a carrier gas, was flown with a flow rate of 1000 standard cubic centimeters per minute. The SnO nanostructures were grown on a Si substrate at $350{\sim}450^{\circ}C$ under 545 Pa for 30 minutes. The surface morphology of the as-grown SnO nanostructures on Si substrate was characterized by field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Raman spectroscopy was used to confirm the phase of the as-grown SnO nanostructures. As the results, the as-grown tin oxide nanostructures exhibited a pure tin monoxide phase. As the substrate temperature was increased from $350^{\circ}C$ to $424^{\circ}C$, the thickness and grain size of the SnO nanostructures were increased. The SnO nanostructures grown at $450^{\circ}C$ exhibited complex polycrystalline structures, whereas the SnO nanostructures grown at $350^{\circ}C$ to $424^{\circ}C$ exhibited simple grain structures parallel to the substrate.

  • Palladium (Pd) is widely used as a catalyst and noxious gas sensing materials. Especially, various researches of Pd based hydrogen gas sensor have been studied due to the noble property, Pd can be adsorbed hydrogen up to 900 times its own volume. In this study, palladium oxide (PdO) nanostructures were grown on Si substrate ($SiO_2(300nm)/Si$) for 3 to 5 hours at $230^{\circ}C{\sim}440^{\circ}C$ using thermal chemical vapor deposition system. Pd powder (source material) was vaporized at $950^{\circ}C$ and high purity Ar gas (carrier gas) was flown with the 200 sccm. The surface morphology of as-grown PdO nanostructures were characterized by field-emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM). The crystallographic properties were confirmed by Raman spectroscopy. As the results, the as-grown nanostructures exhibit PdO phase. The nano-cube structures of PdO were synthesized at specific substrate temperatures and specific growth duration. Especially, PdO nano-cube structrures were uniformly grown at $370^{\circ}C$ for growth duration of 5 hours. The PdO nano-cube structures are attributed to vapor-liquid-solid process. The nano-cube structures of PdO on graphene nanosheet can be applied to fabricate of high sensitivity hydrogen gas sensor.

  • The purpose of this study was to assess the applicability of acid mine drainage sludge (AMDS) pellets for the arsenic (As) stabilization and to suggest an evaluation method for arsenic stabilization efficiency in soil around abandoned coal mines. The soil samples were collected from the agricultural field around Ham-Tae, Dong-Won, Dong-Hae, and Ok-Dong coal mine. The As concentration in soil was exceeding the criteria of soil pollution level, except for Ham-Tae coal mine. The AMDS pellets are more appropriate to use by reducing dust occurrence during the transport and application process than AMDS powder. In addition, AMDS pellets were maintained the As stabilization efficiency. The application of AMDS pellets for the As stabilization in soil was assessed by column experiments. The AMDS pellets were more effective than limestone and steel slag, which used as the conventional additives for the stabilization process. The As extraction by $0.43M\;HNO_3$ or $1M\;NaH_2PO_4$ solution were appropriate evaluation methods for evaluation of As stabilization efficiency in the soil.

  • Eu2+ doped polyphosphate NaSr(PO3)3 blue-emitting phosphors were synthesized by the conventional solid state method in a reductive atmosphere. The phase formation of NaSr(PO3)3 phosphors were characterized by using the X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) measurement. The photoluminescence emission and excitation spectra of the NaSr(PO3)3:Eu2+ phosphor, and decay curves were measured. Under the near-UV excitation, the phosphor exhibits a band emission around 420 nm assigned to the 4f65d→f7(8S7/2) transition of Eu2+. The temperature dependent emission spectra and decay curves were measured to elevate the thermal properties of the Eu2+ doped phosphors. The as-prepared NaSr(PO3)3:Eu2+ phosphors show a strong temperature dependent performance, which can serve as a promising temperature sensor.

  • The Seoul Baekje Museum has been conducting excavations at the Ancient Tomb Complex in Seokchon-dong, Seoul (Historic Site No. 243), known to be tombs of the royal family and the ruling class during the Hanseong period of the Baekje Kingdom. In this study, gold earrings that were revealed during the excavation underwent scientific analysis and conservation treatment. Stereo microscopy, SEM, X-ray imaging, CT, and XRF were applied in the analysis, and the characteristics, internal structure, and composition of the earrings as well as their production method were investigated. The results confirmed that the main hoops of the gilt-bronze earrings were made of copper cores gilt using mercury amalgamation. The findings also revealed that the hexahedron in the middle pendant was made by connecting small rings using molten gold powder, and the pendant sphere at the end was formed by soldering two hemispheres. As for the two thin-hoop earrings, they showed similar surface compositions but were made using different methods, with one made from a copper core wrapped with a gold plate and the other made by bending a gold rod. The gold content varied depending on the item and the place of measurement, but overall the earrings showed a relatively high gold content of approximately 19 to 21K. The purity of the golden earrings and the sophisticated manufacturing techniques applied indicate the high status of the buried person and of the tomb complex in Seokchong-dong.
