  • This research deals with posture optimization for humanoid robot against external forces using genetic algorithm and neural network. When the robot takes a motion to push an object, the torque of each joint is generated by reaction force at the palm. This study aims to optimize the posture of the humanoid robot that will change this torque. This study finds an optimized posture using a genetic algorithm such that torques are evenly distributed over the all joints. Then, a number of different optimized postures are generated from various the reaction forces at the palm. The data is to be used as training data of MLP(Multi-Layer Perceptron) neural network with BP(Back Propagation) learning algorithm. Humanoid robot can find the optimal posture at different reaction forces in real time using the trained neural network include non-training data.

  • An intelligent polishing robot automation system is developed. Automatic Tool Change System(A.T.C.), Tool Posture Angle Control, and Robot Program for Polishing Application are developed and integrated into a robotic system that consists of a robot, pneumatic finding tool, and finding abrasives (papers and special films). A.T.C. is specifically designed to exchange whole grinding tool set for complete unmanned operation. Tool Posture Angle Control is developed to give a certain skew angle rather than right angle to tools on the surface for best finishing results. A.T.C. and Tool Posture Angle Control is controlled by a PC and the robot controller. Also, there have been some considerations on enhancing the performance of the system. Some elastic material is inserted between the grinding pad and the holder for better grinding contact. The robot path data is generated automatically from the NC data of previous machining process.

  • The purpose of this study is looking for deviation of change in HRV caused of posture. Total 20 adults were measured for 40 minutes(10 minutes rest section and 30 minutes analysis section) when volunteers were sitting and lying down. Other factors which can change in HRV were controlled during measurement. The analysis section were divided by total 6 stages(each by 5 minutes), and compared and analyzed between sitting and lying down groups. It was also compared and analyzed stages in each group. In the result, there was difference at stage 5($20{\sim}25$ minutes interval), but no difference in the total data. The results of each stage in the group, lying down had difference. Therefore, sitting is more stable measurement for HRV study when subjects was waking over 15 minutes.

  • In this paper, we present a wearable measurement system for monitoring rounded shoulders. The system contains a shoulder correction band and a stretch sensor that can correct and measure shoulder posture, respectively. The capacitance of the stretch sensor changes linearly according to changes in the shoulders. To verify measurement, a motion analysis system was used as the reference to compare the change in the rounded angles of the shoulders and the change in the stretch sensor's capacitance. The results indicated that there is a high correlation between the two changes and the system can be used as a monitoring device for rounded shoulders.

  • Purpose: Recently, as a result of the use of smart devices, the incidence of musculoskeletal diseases in areas such as the neck and shoulders has increased. A common effect is rounded shoulder posture, which badly affects the movement and posture of the scapula, causing musculoskeletal disease. Therefore, in this study, we investigated the effects of three shoulder brace products on rounded shoulder posture. Methods: A total of 12 subjects comprising men and women in their 20s with round shoulder posture participated in this study. Three shoulder brace designs were selected, and the height change of the shoulder acromion in the lying state before and after wearing the braces was measured. Effectiveness verification was analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test. Results: The results confirmed that the different shoulder brace designs had different effects on round shoulder posture. Conclusion: Currently, numerous designs of shoulder braces are being sold, but their effects have not been verified. In the future, more diverse designs of shoulder braces should be studied, and effective shoulder brace designs should be developed and used.

  • This study aims to examine changes from differences in the lumbar scoliosis angle and iliac crest height due to abnormal and habitual posture shown in unilateral weight load at standing posture and suggest data for preventing and treating lumbago. The subjects of this study are 16 lumbago patients between twenties and forties with chronic lumbago over six months, but without neurological symptoms. As a result of photographing front and back with three conditions such as weight load on both sides and left or right unilateral weight load posture in order to examine changes of lumbar scoliosis and iliac crest according to changes of posture at unilateral weight load, while scoliosis angle and iliac crest height by habitual unilateral support were increased, those by opposite support were decreased. In conclusion, it was found that habitual unilateral weight load may cause continuous distortion of spinal angle and change of iliac crest height and these may be a factor of lumbago. Therefore, if habitual unilateral weight load state is kept continuously, distortion of lumbar angle and iliac crest height may be greater and common efforts to change habitual unilateral weight load are needed.

  • An effective die-polishing robot system is developed. ATC (Automatic Tool Change), tool posture angle control, and robot program for polishing application are developed and integrated into a robotic system that consists of a robot, pneumatic grinding tool, and grinding abrasives (papers and special films). ATC is specifically designed to exchange whole grinding tool set for complete unmanned operation. A tool posture angle control system is developed for the tools to maintain a specified skew angle rather than right angle on the surface for best finishing results. A PC and the robot controller control ATC and tool posture angle. Also, there have been more considerations on enhancing the performance of the system. Elastic material is inserted between the grinding pad and the holder for better grinding contact. Robot path data are generated automatically from the NC data of previous machining process.

Method: The subjects consisted of 33 adults in their 20s and 50s who use M centers in B-gu and H-gu, B-City, and they measured foot plantar pressure balance and lung capacity according to cervical posture (cervical normal curvature posture, cervical flexural posture) in adults. Results: In this study, the difference of foot plantar pressure balance according to cervical posture were analyzed. In the difference between left and right foot pressure balance. It was 1.50% increased in the cervical flexural posture than in the cervical normal curvature posture, and a statistically significant difference was observed. In the difference between the anterior and posterior foot pressure balance. It was 4.28% increased in the cervical flexural posture than in the cervical normal curvature posture, and a statistically significant difference was observed. The difference of lung capacity according to cervical posture were analyzed. In the PEF, It was 58.63 l/min decreased in the cervical flexural posture than in the cervical normal curvature posture, and a statistically significant difference was observed. In the FEV1, It was 0.15 ℓ decreased in the cervical flexural posture than in the cervical normal curvature posture, and a statistically significant difference was observed. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that had a positive effect on differences of foot plantar pressure balance and lung capacity at cervical normal curvature posture in adults. In future research, itis believed that research on the elderly who have collapsed the normal curvature posture due to aging, as well as teenagers whose normal curvature posture due to the use of smartphones, will contribute to the balance of foot pressure and improvement of the right cervical habits. In future studies, it is also believed that it will be necessary to measure lung capacity after performing exercise according to the cervical posture, thereby providing sufficient oxygen during exercise to enhance the persistence and efficiency of the movement.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate effect of head posture change on initial occlusal contacts through measuring the distances between initial occlusal contacts and maximum intercuspal position at different head posture. Two special devices were designed and constructed. Mandibular movement replicator was used to assess reliability of the K6 diagnostic system(MKG; Myo-tronic Inc, Seatle, USA) and head posture calibrator was used to maintain the constant head posture during experiment. We measured difference of distance between initial occlusal contact and maximum intercuspal position with MKG in upright, supine, 45 degrees extension, 30 degrees flexion, 30 degrees right and left bending postion of the head. The Frankfurt horizontal plane was used as a reference plane. 21 adults aged from 23 to 25 were selected, who have normal or class I molar relationship, and have no symptoms on TMJ and masticatory muscles, and have restorations less than 3 surfaces on each tooth, and have no other prosthetic restoration. The obtained results were as follows : The mean absolute distances between initial occlusal contact and maximum intercuspal postion were 0.39(0.18mm in the upright position, 0.65(0.37mm in the supine position, 0.59(0.33mm in the 45 degree extension, 0.70(0.53mm in the 30 degrees flexion, 1.12(1.10mm in the 30 degrees right bending and 1.94(0.67mm in the 30 degrees left bending of the head. The positions of the initial occlusal contacts have a tendency to locate anterior, left and inferior to maximal intercuspal position in upright position, posterior and inferior in supine position and 45 degrees extension, anterior and inferior in 30 degrees flexion, right and inferior in 30 degrees right bending, and left and inferior in 30 degrees left bending of the head. There were significant differences among the initial occlusal contacts in each head postures(P<0.0001). Therefore, we need to check initial occlusal contacts in the altered head posture during occlusal analysis and adjustment of occlusal appliance and dental occlusion for diagnosis and treatment of temporomandibular disorder.

  • Background: Because a forward-leaning posture can cause increased back muscle activity and pain. Therefore, an innovative method to reduce back muscle activity and pain is required. Objects: This study aimed to investigate the effects of a head support on muscle activity and pain in a forward-leaning posture. Methods: A total of 14 male and 16 female students (average age, 21.65 ± 2.37 years; height, 166.15 ± 7.90 cm; and weight, 60.65 ± 9.00 kg) were recruited for the experiment. Two of them were excluded due to musculoskeletal disorders. The muscle activity and pain in the forward-leaning posture were assessed while participants washed dishes for 7 minutes with and without a head support. The condition of using a head support was randomly performed with a 5-minutes break. To confirm a lumbar flexion angle of 30° during the experiment, myoVIDEO was used, and surface electromyography was used to measure muscle activity. Pain was assessed using a 10-point visual analog scale (VAS). The Wilcoxon signed-rank test was used to analyze the data, with p < 0.05 indicating statistical significance. Results: The cervical, thoracic, and lumbar erector spinae muscle activities significantly decreased with the use of the head support, but there was no significant change in the gluteus maximus. There was a significant decrease in the VAS score for the lumbar erector spinae (p < 0.05), but there was no significant change in the VAS score for the cervical region. Conclusion: The use of a head support in a forward-leaning posture reduced cervical, thoracic, and lumbar erector muscle activity and pain. Therefore, it could be recommended during working in a forward-leaning posture, such as during dishwashing, cooking, and working as a factory employee.
