The purpose of this study was to investigate the difference of teachers' interaction with their students when teaching science in New York (NY) and in Korea. As part of the 2011 Korean International Teacher Fellows (KITF), supported by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MEST) and the National Institute for International Education Development (NIIED), Korean science teachers observed, for six months, New York's science classes in terms of how teachers interact with their students and how students learn science during science instruction. The participants were 10 science teachers in five middle and high schools that taught Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Earth Science, and Environment Science in NY. The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS, 2003) and Instruction as Interaction (Cohen et al., 2003) were used as an instrument to identify each teacher's teaching and classroom interaction. Several characteristics of science classes in NY were revealed, which are different from Korean science classes. First, science teachers in NY dominantly put more focus on their subject of teaching during science interaction while, Korean science teachers not only teach science but also do counseling to students as a homeroom teacher. Second, science teachers in NY acknowledged the students' individuality and have positive experiences of professional development supported by their school and district more than Korean science teachers do. Third, science teachers in NY sometimes showed limited knowledge about the concepts of science and lack of collaboration with other science teachers. This characteristics may prevent the school from strengthening its subject program and keeping equity across the grade levels and courses.
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to describe growth and development of breast-fed infants and to depict experiences of breastfeeding mothers. Method: The data were collected from 145 infants and mothers participating in A Healthy Breastfeeding Infant Contest. The instrument used for this study was a self-report questionnaire completed by the participants and an evaluation record completed by the examiners. Results: The more specific results of the study are as follows: the weight of the infants was much higher than the Korean Standards. The height of infants was not significantly different from the Korean Standards except for 5 month old male infants. The results of Denver II showed all 145 infants were classified as normal. The breastfeeding experiences in mothers was as follows; 31.7% of the mothers breastfed for 5 months, 48.3% wanted to breastfed as long as the baby wanted. The mothers pointed out that the difficult problem in breastfeeding was insufficient breastfeeding room in public areas. What mothers want to know related to breastfeeding was, breastfeeding duration, time to begin solid food and recommended amounts, time to discontinue breastfeeding at sleep time and appropriate methods. Conclusion: Mothers' experience in breastfeeding was positive. We should provide mothers a comfortable place in public areas for breastfeeding. Based on the result of the study it's propose that health professionals must intervene in breast care during both antepartum and early postpartum periods.

Purpose: This study aimed to explore human rights sensitivity and the perception of patients' rights among nursing students. For the study, 253 nursing students from K and D universities located in Daegu and the Gyeongbuk region were asked to participate. Methods: Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics 20.0; in addition, descriptive statistics, a t-test, and a one-way ANOVA were used. Results: The average human rights sensitivity score was 2.40 out of 5 points. Human rights sensitivity was significantly different in education experiences in regards to human rights after getting into nursing school and in nursing courses, as well as experiences of clinical practice. Among the six episodes that measured human rights sensitivity, nursing students reported the highest score on the right to the pursuit of happiness of older people and the lowest score was reported on the right to privacy. The average score of patients' rights perception was 4.53 out of 5 points. In particular, nursing students considered the right to enjoy human worth/dignity and the right to equality to be the most important of patients' rights. Patients' rights perception, in general, was significantly different depending on the number of family members. Conclusion: It is needed to develop an effective nursing curriculum in order to improve nursing students' human rights sensitivity and foster positive perceptions regarding patients' rights.
This study addresses the relationship between individual differences regarding self-concept, measured by Self Concept Clarity (SCC) scale and Relational-Interdependent Self-Construal and relationships (RISC) scale, and diverse affective consequences after choice behavior. We hypothesized that lower self-concept clarity and higher relational interdependence would be related to increased susceptibility to choice context-for example, how a choice set is constructed based on one's initial preference. We examined how variations in a choice set can produce different affective consequences after making choices, and investigated the underlying neural mechanism using fMRI. In this experiment, participants first rated their preferences for art posters, and made a series of choices from a presented set. After the choice task, they completed post-choice measures including preferences for the chosen posters, as well as measures of their self-concept clarity and relational interdependence. Our behavioral results demonstrated that when participants faced more conflicting choice context, self-concept clarity was related to more positive affective consequences after choice, whereas relational interdependence was correlated with a lower second-rated attractiveness of the chosen option. The neuroimaging analysis of choice-making revealed that self-concept clarity and the degree of their relational interdependence served as modulators in shaping how one perceives and experiences the same decision-making process. These results have theoretical and practical importance in that it is one of the first studies investigating the influence of the individual differences regarding self-concept on value-based decision making process among diverse choice set contexts.
The purpose of this study was to understand the internet fashion shopping behavior of men in their 20s, and to develop the internet shopping website with situation-based clothing coordination services for male comsumer in their 20s. The study was implemented through a normative descriptive survey method using a questionnaire. The survey was conducted in April and May 2006, and the sample group consisted of 280 men in their 20s from Busan and the provinces of Gyeongnam and Gyeongbuk. The data was analyzed by following statistical methods: frequency analysis, one-way-ANOV A, and Scheffe's test. The results are as follow: first, regarding internet the usage trend of male consumers in their 20s, it was shown that they usually spent more than 15 minutes and less than 30 minutes for internet shopping the price range from their experiences of clothing purchases was relatively high for they bought jackets or suits was relatively high. Second, an analysis on men's pattern of clothing purchase showed that many respondents purchase single items such as shirts or pants online. Third, in terms of their experiences of online purchase of coordinated clothes, 69% said "none." Yet, they showed positive assessment to a question whether they are willing to purchase clothes by using a situation-based coordination service or a 1:1 online coordination services. Fourth, the relationship between consumers' reactions to online situation-based clothing coordination services and respondents' demographic characteristics showed statistically significant different results in terms of occupation.
Stroke is known as a detrimental disease that leaves serious sequelae. The stroke patients suffer from limitations of physical and social activities. The patients try to adapt themselves to the limitations in order to achieve rehabilitation. This study was performed to clarify the lived experience of rehabilitation from the stroke patients. In collecting data for this study, in-depth personal interviews were made by a researcher from February to April in 2001 at rehabilitation clinics and physical therapy centers locate in Iksan city. The methodological approach was van Manen's hermeneutic phenomenological methodology in order to understand the meaning and nature of stroke patients' experiences in rehabilitating their physical limitations. Collected data were analyzed with phenomenological way of study that was develope by van Manen. The 8 patients who agreed to participate in this research were inter viewed by researcher under the private and comfortable environment. Personal interviews were done three or five times per each patients and each interview took 70 to 90 minutes. The statements were analyzed and finally revealed three essential themes : Theme 1 - Desperateness to achieve freedom again Theme 2 - Seizing hope of recovering Theme 3 - Seeking support from family members, relatives and friends Based on these themes, stroke patients' rehabilitation experience are described as following. The stroke patients have strong desire to achieve freedom again in order to escape from social isolation. The stroke patients want to go back to the state of their previous health state. The stroke patients strongly try to do anything for their recovering and also to have positive thinking. In the other hand, they feel pity for themselves through desperation, fear, sorrow, and self-pity. The stroke patients have dissatisfaction about neighbors' rumor and attitude toward themselves. The stroke patients have experiences to rely on neighbors' support seeking a warm word of consolation. This research showed us that van Manen's hermeneutic phenomenological methodology leads us to understand stroke patients' rehabilitation process more comprehensibly. Based on this research, it is suggested that further studies provide a foundation for the development of a rehabilitation theory for Korean stroke patients.

Purpose: This study was intended to gain an in-depth understanding of and explored the experiences and meanings of participating in care services among community-dwelling older adults. Methods: A focus group interview approach was adopted. Twenty older adults were interviewed from November to December 2021 using semi-structured interview questions. The data was analyzed using thematic analysis. Results: Three main themes and seven sub-themes emerged for the elderly people living alone. One main theme was "ambivalence of elderly care services," the second was "desperate need for care services," and the third was "positive changes and expectations experienced with care services." For the elderly people living with their families, two main themes and four sub-themes were identified. One main theme was "care services met within the family system," the second was "needs for care services outside the family system." Conclusion: We aim to provide a basis for strengthening the quality of elderly community care services in the mid- to long-term and establish a system of close linkages between necessary services by understanding the needs of elderly people who live alone or with their families.

The purpose of this study was to explore factors influencing kindergarten teachers' science anxiety. The subjects were 182 kindergarten teachers. The career, educational background, scientific literacy, science-related experience, type of kindergarten, age of classroom students, science supporting environment of kindergarten, and students' interest in science were examined as possible factors affecting teachers' science anxiety. The results showed that the science-related experience, science supporting environment of kindergarten, and students' interest in science were related to the teachers' science anxiety. However, the most important factor influencing kindergarten teachers' science anxiety was science-related experience. These results can be interpreted that positive science experiences affect decreasing teachers' science anxiety
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate and compare human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination status associated with HPV health belief and knowledge between male and female highschool students. Methods: In the winter of 2012, 183 students responded to self-administered questionnaires, and t-test, ${\chi}^2$-test, and ANOVA were used for data analysis. Results: There were significant differences in the experiences of hearing about HPV vaccination, source of HPV information, experience of being vaccinated with HPV vaccination, reason for HPV unvaccination and vaccination intention by gender. The mean scores for health belief of HPV vaccination were 1.72 (total score: 4) in men and 2.31 in women. There were significant differences in HPV health belief (t=-5.14, p<.001). The mean scores for knowledge of HPV vaccination were 0.08 (total score: 1) in men and 0.12 in women, but there were no significant differences in HPV knowledge (t=-1.62, p=.108). There were positive associations between HPV health belief and knowledge in women (p=.02). Conclusion: This study showed different HPV vaccination status, health belief and knowledge in gender. The results indicate a need to consider levels of health belief and knowledge of HPV vaccination in target populations of highschool students when planning a HPV related education program.
In recent years, medical techniques have provided patients with various measures to improve their quality of life. For dental treatment, drug-mediated sedation techniques for relieving dental anxiety have been developed, but behavior control through drugmediation may be limited because of possible side effects, contraindications, and the additional expense to the patient. Many patients tend to avoid the treatment or are unwilling to accept it and this makes both patients and dentists feel pressured. The field of NLP application might alleviate this uncomfortableness. Recently, NLP has spread to the dental and medical field rapidly and has been used in surgical treatments as well as in direct psychotherapy. NLP techniques which could be applied to dental phobic patients are as follows. 1) anchoring, 2) dissociation, 3) submodality change, 4) time line threapy, 5) swish pattern, 6) six step reframing, 7) parts integration, 8) modeling and imagination and so on. The aim of this study is to examine the strategy of NLP psychology so that dental phobic patients can be treated efficiently and effectively by the application of behavior management. Through NLP, patients can be induced to have more positive attitudes and experiences in future dental treatment.
