  • We propose a new expert system for recovering the broken fragments of relics into an original form using computer graphics and image processing. This paper presents a system with an application to tombstones objects of flat plane with letters carved in for assembling the fragments by placing their respective fragments in the right position. The matching process contains three sub-processes: aligning the front and letters of an object, identifying the matching directions, and determining the detailed matching positions. We apply least squares fitting, vector inner product, and geometric and RGB errors to the matching process. It turned out that 2-D translations via fragments-alignment enable us to save the computational load significantly. Based on experimental results from the damaged cultural fragments, the performance of the proposed method is illustrated.

  • Ten (E)-and (Z)-isomers of 2-phenylcyclopropylamine (PCA), 1-Me PCA, 2-Me-PCA, N-Me-PCA, and N, N-diMe PCA and fifteen o-. m-, p- isomers of (E) PCA with substituents of Me, Cl, F, OMe, OH were synthesized in this laboratory and tested for the inhibition of rat brain mitochondrial MAO-A and MAO-B. The effects of substituents, their positions, and stereochemistry on the inhibition were assessed for the compounds with substituents at cyclopropyl and amino groups and QSAR analyses were performed using the potency data of ring-substituted compounds. The best correlated QSAR equations are as follows : pI$_{50}$ = 0.804 $\pi^2$-0.834 Blo-1.069 Blm + 0.334 Lp-1.709 HDp +7.897 (r = 0.945, s =0.211, F = 16.691, p = 0.000) for the inhibition of MAO-A;PI$_{50}$= 1.815$\pi$-0.825 $\pi^2$-1.203R + 0.900 Es$^2$ + 0.869 Es$^3$ + 0.796 Es$^4$-0.992 HDp + 0.562 HAo + 3.893 (r = 0.982, s =0.178, F = 23.351, p = 0.000) for the inhibition of MAO-B. Based on the potency difference between stereoisomers of cyclopropylamine-modified compounds and an QSAR cavity near para position, two hydrophobic carities interacting with Me group, a hydrophobic site near para position, and an amino group binding site and that in addition to the same two hydrophotic cavities, hydrophotic area, steric boundaries, hydrogen-acceptor site, and amino group binding site, another steric boundary near para position and a hydrogen donating site near ortho position constitute active sites of MAO-B.

  • Purpose: Segmental analysis of volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) is not clinically used for compositional error source evaluation. Instead, dose verification is routinely used for plan-specific quality assurance (QA). While this approach identifies the resultant error, it does not specify which machine parameter was responsible for the error. In this research study, we adopted an approach for the segmental analysis of VMAT as a part of machine QA of linear accelerator (LINAC). Methods: Two portal dose QA plans were generated for VMAT QA: a) for full arc and b) for the arc, which was segmented in 12 subsegments. We investigated the multileaf collimator (MLC) position and dosimetric accuracy in the full and segmented arc delivery schemes. A MATLAB program was used to calculate the MLC position error from the data in the dynalog file. The Gamma passing rate (GPR) and the measured to planned dose difference (DD) in each pixel of the electronic portal imaging device was the measurement for dosimetric accuracy. The eclipse treatment planning system and a MATLAB program were used to calculate the dosimetric accuracy. Results: The maximum root-mean-square error of the MLC positions were <1 mm. The GPR was within the range of 98%-99.7% and was similar in both types of VMAT delivery. In general, the DD was <5 calibration units in both full arcs. A similar DD distribution was found for continuous arc and segmented arcs sums. Exceedingly high DD were not observed in any of the arc segment delivery schemes. The LINAC performance was acceptable regarding the execution of the VMAT QA plan. Conclusions: The segmental analysis proposed in this study is expected to be useful for the prediction of the delivery of the VMAT in relation to the gantry angle. We thus recommend the use of segmental analysis of VMAT as part of the regular QA.

  • Progressive shearing with blanking dies is commonly employed to produce large quantities of tiny sheet metal electronic parts. Sheet metal pins, which are narrow and long, that are sheared with a progressive die set are often twisted. The twist in the sheet metal pins, which usually occurs in the final shearing operation, generally decreases with increasing blank holding force. The blank holding forces in all shearing operations are not the same because of different shearing positions and areas. In the current study, the optimal layout of the springs in a progressive die set to minimize the twist of the sheet metal pin is proposed. In order to find the holding force acting on the tiny narrow blanks produced with the proposed springs during the shearing process, the equivalent area method is used in the structural analysis. The shearing of the sheet-metal pin was simulated to compute the twist angle associated with the blank holding force. The constraint condition satisfying the pre-set blank holding force from the previous shearing operations was imposed. A design of experiments (DOE) was numerically implemented by analyzing the progressive die structure and by simulating the shearing process. From the meta-model created from the experimental results and by using a quadratic response surface method (PQRSM), the optimal layout of the springs was determined. The twist of sheet metal pin associated with the optimal layout of the springs found in the current study was compared with that of an existing progressive die to obtain a minimal amount of twist.

  • Ocassionally it is used for simple extensions of Terzahgi's theory to account for time-depend- tint loading but there is little evidence of application in more complicated consolidation theories that take into account such effects as nonlinear stress.strain, layered systems or large strains. The purpose of this paper provides an efficient computer algorthm based on numerical analysis using finite difference method which account for multi-layered soils to determine the degree of consolidation and excess pore pressures relative to time and positions more realistically. The explicitly scheme of solving the consolidation equations has been investigated from the point of view of the stability conditions and the convergence with variance of the operator as well as to obtain an optimal divided depth ratios of total depth. A comparison of the settlement predictions with both the classical analysis and the algorithm based on numerical analysis indicates that the new algorithm scheme is found to be superior to the classical theory in the layered soils.

  • Recently researchers have studied mobile physiological sensing device. However, previous works focused on multiple and real time physiological sensing method, instead of aesthetic shape of sensing devices, sensing comfort during monitoring and sensing reliability against the hand motion artifact. In this work, we propose a stone shaped physiological sensing device to monitor the physiological status in a daily life which maximize the aesthetic feeling and sensing comfort and sensing reliability. We proposed stepwise user centered design process for user centric physiological sensing device and evaluated appropriate sensing positions against the hand motion artifacts and pressure from sensors. From the usability test and experiments, we verified the proposed sensing device provides the aesthetic appeals, sensing comfort and sensing reliability. We expect that this work can be applied in the various health care applications in near future.

  • Regarding leisure and work as very important in residential life of old ages, this study analyzed their preference by leisure and work for senior congregate housing, which can provide proper work and leisure activities for older people who are able to manage their social activities with healthy condition. It conducted a survey of middle aged of the 50's who would face problems of senior housing in 2010, with stratified sampling by region, sex and housing structure type. Totally 556 Questionnaires were used for the final analysis. The research results showed that, first, the group which was positive toward their works mostly had spouse of the age of early 50' s and work for professional, technological, managerial positions with good health. Second, the more positive group towards their work showed high willingness to move in senior congregate housing, than a negative group towards their work, and put a weight on the openness of shared space and facilities as well as various alarming equipments, common space, common programs and the ability of managers. Third, according to the attitudes toward leisure activities, there were differences in each group by housing structure type, education of their own or their spouses, monthly income, property, economic ability, health condition, living together with spouse, housing tenureship, and usable area of houses. The fourth was that those who enjoy active leisure activities presented high willingness to move in senior congregate housing than those of negative attitude and also there was a difference in managerial ways. Throughout the results of the study, it appeared that a group of positive attitude toward work and leisure, than that of negative attitude, recognized the importance of senior congregate housing which social and leisure programs could support. It implied necessary to develop housing for the older people who have enough ability to manage their leisure activity as well as their work. The study is likely to have a contribution to suggest practical data for helping the development of housing for self-reliant seniors by analyzing their preference on senior congregate housing by their attitudes toward work. The research for the factors of various designs and managements by leisure and work may become the following research theme of the study.

  • At present the general trend of modern electronics is toward smaller packages and high performance. As an antenna requires high powers, the EMC(Electromagnetic Compatibility) problems of the transmission line stage is becoming crucial day by day. In this paper, a transmission line excited by the electromagnetic fields from an infinitesimal electric dipole antenna is analyzed using the modified telegrapher's equations. The analytical equations are derived for arbitrarily positioned electric dipole with reference to a transmission line. To verify our approach, the induced voltage and current at the terminal were computed by the proposed approach and compared with those obtained by the electromagnetic simulation solver. Furthermore, the induced currents at the terminal of a transmission line excited by the electric dipoles at various positions were investigated using our approach.
