  • The purpose of this paper is to extract DEM (Digital Elevation Model) using KOMPSAT images. DEM extraction consists of three parts. First part is the modeling of satellite position and attitude, second part is the matching of two images to find corresponding points of them and third part is to calculate the elevation of each point by using the result of the first and second part. The position and attitude modeling of satellite is processed by using GCPs. Area based matching method is used to find the corresponding points between the stereo satellite images. The elevation of each point is calculated using the exterior orientation information obtained from sensor modeling and the disparity from the stereo matching. In experiment, the KOMPSAT images, 2592$\times$2796 panchromatic images are used to extract DEM. The experiment result show the DEM using KOMPSAT images.

  • In order to determine the three-dimensional position in photogrammetry, a spatial resection is a pre-requisite step to determine exterior orientation parameters. The existing spatial resection method is a non-linear equation that requires initial values of exterior orientation parameters and has a problem that a gimbal lock phenomenon may occur. On the other hand, the spatial resection using quaternion is a closed form solution that does not require initial values of EOP (Exterior Orientation Parameters) and is a method that can eliminate the problem of gimbal lock. In this study, to analyze the stability of the quaternion-based spatial resection, the exterior orientation parameters were determined according to the different layout of control points and were compared with the determined values using existing non-linear equation. As a result, it can be seen that the quaternionbased spatial resection is affected by the layout of the control points. Therefore, if the initial value of exterior orientation parameters could not be obtained, it would be more effective to estimate the initial exterior orientation values using the quaternion-based spatial resection and apply it to the collinearity equation-based spatial resection method.

  • In this paper, a planar car model with 3 degrees of freedom was analyzed using the concept of the roll center. To avoid ambiguity, force components which require experimental data were excluded. Only kinematic approach was used to find the position and orientation of the vehicle body and the position of the roll center. The roll center was found by the pole with infinitesimal movement and Kennedy-Aronhold theorem. Centrodes, which are the loci of instantaneous centers of planar motion, were constructed with analyzed results to show characteristics of vehicle body motion. To verify the presented analysis method in this paper, the locus of the roll center and the motion of a 3 D.O.F. planar car model were compared with those of the 1 D.O.F. model.

  • The directional ability of an automobile has an influence on driver directly, and hence it must be given most priority. Alignment factors of automobile such as the camber, caster and toe directly affect the directional ability of a vehicle. The above mentioned factors are determined by the pose of interlinks in the assembly of an automobile front chassis module. Measuring the position of center point of ball joints in the front lower arm is very difficult. A method to determine this position is suggested in this paper. Pose estimation for front chassis module and dimensional evaluation to find the rotational characteristics of front lower arm were developed based on fundamental geometric techniques. To interpret the inspection data obtained for front chassis module, 3-D best fit method is needed. The best fit method determines the relationship between the nominal design coordinate system and the corresponding feature coordinate system. The least squares method based on singular value decomposition is used in this paper.

  • A very simple control approach using neural network for the robust position control of a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(PMSM) is presented The linear quadratic controller plus feedforward neural network is employed to obtain the robust PMSM system approximately linearized using field-orientation method for an AC servo. The neural network is trained in on-line phases and this neural network is composed by a fedforward recall and error back-propagation training. Since the total number of nodes are only eight this system can be easily realized by the general microprocessor. During the normal operation the input-output response is sampled and the weighting value is trained multi-times by error back-propagation method at each sample period to accommodate the possible variations in the parameters or load torque. And the state space analysis is performed to obtain the state feedback gains systematically. IN addition the robustness is also obtained without affecting overall system response. This method is realized by a floating-point Digital Singal Processor DS1102 Board (TMS320C31) The basic DSP software is used to write C program which is compiled by using ANSI-C style function prototypes.

  • An error analysis is very important for a precision machine to estimate its performances. This study deals with error of a new parallel device, cubic parallel manipulator. There are so many error sources in this mechanism. Errors of the cubic parallel device vary depending on the stiffness of the manipulator. The stiffness of each link depends on the directions of the link and actuation force. In this paper, the stiffness of the manipulator is calculated by ARAQUS and the position and orlentation errors are predicted within a given workspace. The analysis shows that the method can be used in predicting the accuracy of other parallel devices and in designing parallel devices.

  • Knowledge of camera parameters, such as position, orientation and focal length, is essential to 3D information recovery or virtual object insertion. This paper analyzes the error sensitivity of focal length due to position error of feature points which are employed for self-calibration. We verify the dependency of the focal length on the distance from the principal point to feature points with simulations, and propose a criterion for feature selection to reduce the error sensitivity.

  • This paper presents a 3-D localization of an autonomous underwater vehicle(AUV). Conventional methods of localization, such as LBL or SBL, require additional beacon systems, which reduces the flexibility and availability of the AUV We use a digital compass, a pressure sensor, a clinometer and ultrasonic sensors for localization. From the orientation and velocity information, a priori position of the AUV is estimated based on the dead reckoning. With the aid of extended Kalman filter algorithm, a posteriori position of the AUV is estimated by using the distance between the AUV and a mother ship on the surface of the water together with the water depth information from the pressure sensor. Simulation results show the possibility of practical application of the method to autonomous navigation of the AUV.

  • The navigation problem for a mobile robot is investigated. Specifically, it is proposed that simple guide-marks be introduced and the navigation scheme be generated in conjunction with the guide-marks sensed through camera vision. For autonomous navigation, it was shown that a triple guide-mark system is more effective than a single guide-mark in estimating the position and orientation of mobile robot itself. The navigation system is tested via a mobile robot HERO-I equipped with a single camera in laboratory environment.
