Single-Port Laparoscopic Proximal Gastrectomy with Double Tract Reconstruction for Early Gastric Cancer: Report of a Case

  • In Korea, proximal gastrectomy has recently attracted attention as a better choice of function-preserving surgery for proximal early gastric cancer than total gastrectomy. Of the various strategies to overcome reflux symptoms from remnant stomach, double tract reconstruction not only reduces the incidence of anastomosis-related complications, but is also sufficiently reproducible as a laparoscopic procedure. Catching up with the recent rise of single-port laparoscopic surgeries, we performed a pure single-port laparoscopic proximal gastrectomy with DTR. This procedure was designed by merging the function-preserving concept of proximal gastrectomy with single-port laparoscopic total gastrectomy.

  • Productivity of container cranes and gantry cranes is influenced by the performance of crane hardware and cycle time. Cycle time in container handling is influenced by the path of containers and relative positioning of containers. So we have to minimize the sway of containers and spreaders to minimize relative positioning time. And sway minimization is influenced by the skill of workers in manual gantry cranes. In this paper, we will survey some anti-sway systems. Each system has some merits and some shortages. And we will show our choice and its experimental equipment which is under construction.

A Research Program for Modeling Strategic Aspects of International Container Port Competition

  • As national economies globalize, demand for intercontinental container shipping services is growing rapidly, providing a potential economic boon for the countries and communities that provide port services. On the promise of profits, many governments are investing heavily in port infrastructure, leading to a possible glut in port capacity, driving down prices for port services and eliminating profits as ports compete for business. Further, existing ports are making strategic investments to protect their market share, increasing the chance new ports will be overcapitalized and unprofitable. Governments and port researchers need a tool for understanding how local competition in their region will affect demand for port services at their location, and thus better assess the profitability of a prospective port. We propose to develop such a tool by extending our existing simulation model of global container traffic to incorporate demand-side shipper preferences and supply-side strategic responses by incumbent ports to changes in the global port network, including building new ports, scaling up existing ports, and unexpected port closures. We will estimate shipper preferences over routes, port attributes and port services based on US and international shipping data, and redesign the simulation model to maximize the shipper's revealed preference functions rather than simply minimize costs. As demand shifts, competing ports will adjust their pricing (short term) and infrastructure (long term) to remain competitive or defend market share, a reaction we will capture with a game theoretic model of local monopoly that will predict changes in port characteristics. The model's hypotheses will be tested in a controlled laboratory experiment tailored to local port competition in Asia, which will also serve to demonstrate the subtle game theoretic concepts of imperfect competition to a policy and industry audience. We will apply the simulation model to analyze changes in global container traffic in three scenarios: addition of a new large port in the US, extended closure of an existing large port in the US, and cooperative and competitive port infrastructure development among Korean partner countries in Asia.

  • 미주나 구주항로의 서비스를 이용하는 수도권 화주 90%가 부산항을 이용하고 있다. 하지만 인천 신항의 항로수심이 -16m 이상으로 증심이 이루어진다면, 수도권 화주들의 항만선택행동에 큰 변화가 있을 것으로 예상된다. 이러한 측면에서 본 연구에서는 Logit모형을 이용하여 환경변화를 고려한 인천 신항의 수도권 화물의 분담률을 추정하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 본 연구에서는 화주의 항만선택행동과 관련된 선행연구 고찰을 통해 정기선항로 항차 수(미주노선), 내륙운송운임, 컨테이너터미널 서비스 수준을 독립변수로 선정하고, 부산신항과 인천 신항을 더미화하여 종속변수로 활용한 효용함수를 구성하였다. 인천 신항과 부산신항이 갖는 총 효용치를 통해 현 수준에서 두 항만의 분담률을 분석한 결과, 기본 시나리오에서는 부산신항이 0.6618, 인천 신항이 0.3382라는 결과를 획득하였다.

The Evaluation of Location Competitiveness for International Logistics Center: Case of Northeast Asia

  • The expansion on the scale of international trade and rapid economic growth in Northeast Asia have caused intense competition among global companies for securing international logistics center in Northeast Asia. Analyzing location competitiveness for international logistics center in Northeast Asia, this paper aims to extract implications for enhancing locational competitiveness. Employing the relative importance among location selection factors extracted from AHP analysis in prior study, we evaluated the major five port-cities in Northeast Asia including Busan, Gwangyang, Shanghai, Qingdao and Tokyo. In the evaluations, Shanghai (3.926) ranked as the first, followed by Busan (3.859), Qingdao (3.555), Tokyo (3.013) and Gwangyang (2.915). Furthermore, the causal relationships between determinants for location choice decision (logistics factor, cost factor, market factor, service factor and environmental factor) and dependent variables (competitiveness of international logistics center, potentiality to growth, present intention to move into and future plan to move into) were analyzed to provide implications. Results provide useful insights for further improvements, and helps strategic agenda for future development of port-cities.

유럽지역 인터모달운송 선택요인의 중요도 측정에 관한 연구 (Weighing the Importance of Mode Choice Factors on Intermodal Transportation Service in Europe)

  • 1995년 이후 한국기업의 유럽진출이 활발히 이루어졌으며, 특히 폴란드, 체코, 슬로바키아, 헝가리 등의 동유럽지역 진출은 두드러진다. 2011년 한-EU FTA 체결로 두 지역 간 경제적 관계는 더욱 밀접해졌다. 이러한 측면에서 항만을 가지고 있는 전통 유럽국가와 동유럽을 효율적으로 연결하기 위한 인터모달운송 선택에 관한 연구가 요청되고 있다. 하지만 유럽지역 수송수단 선택에 관한 연구는 아직 초보단계에 머무르고 있다. 본 연구는 현재 유럽지역의 인터모달운송의 현황을 파악하고, 열차와 트럭, 피더와 트럭 등의 인터모달운송선택의 핵심요인을 파악하며, 한국에서 유럽과 거래하는 수출기업 및 포워더 측면에서 고려할 때 주요하게 판단하는 요소의 가중치를 평가하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. In-depth interview는 2013년 4월에서 5월 사이 20년에서 30년 이상의 경력을 지닌 물류관련기업 사장단을 통하여 이루어졌다. 연구방법론으로 퍼지이론이 사용되었으며, 연구결과 도착의 신뢰도, 환적시간, 운임이 인터모달운송 선택시 가장 중요한 요인으로 선정되었다.

  • Recently, in the shipping companies have been employing prudently in order to prevent from sea accidents occurred by human factors. Also the students of merchant marine universities are choosing prudently the shipping companies when taking a job. But many qualitative and quantitative factors are considered in decision making for the employment and the choice of a company. FSM(Fuzzy Structural Modeling) has been widely used in modeling the system composed of such qualitative and quantitative factor. In this paper, a case study is discussed for the analysis of the consciousness of the employment of shining companies and students' choice of such company in maritime university using FSM. Also this paper proposed the planes for educating and recruitment guiding the student in maritime university.

부산.광양항의 예산배분과 정치적 변수에 대한 상관관계 분석 (Analysis of Correlation between the Budget Allocation to the Busan-Gwangyang Port and the Political Variables)

  • 한국 정부가 양항정책(two-port policy)으로 추진하고 있는 부산항과 광양항 개발에 대한 예산의 적정성을 놓고 갈수록 논란이 격화되고 있다. 이런 논란의 중심에는 항만개발이 경제적 논리보다는 대통령 선거, 국회의원 선거, 정권의 지역주의적 특성 등 정치적 논리에 따라 예산투입이 이루어졌다는 문제의식이 자리하고 있다. 선거와 정권의 특성 등 정치적 변수가 특정 항만개발을 위한 예산지출에 중대한 역할을 하였다는 것이다. 본 논문의 목적은 부산항과 광양항 개발 예산에 내재되어 있는 정치적 예산배분을 검증하기 위한 것이다. 부산항과 광양항 개발에 대한 정치적 예산 분석을 위한 정치변수로 선거와 정권을 선택하였다. 분석결과 부산항은 지방선거와 정(+)의 상관관계가 있었고, 광양항 예산은 대선과 상관관계가 존재한 것으로 나타났다. 또한 정권의 지역주의(regionalism)에 따른 항만개발예산의 지출은 이루어지지 않았다. 대신 정권이 표방한 국가의제(national agenda)가 항만개발예산의 집행과 밀접한 관련이 있음을 추론할 수 있다. '동북아 중심정책'을 국가의제로서 가장 적극적으로 추진한 노무현 정권과 전국 항만 및 부산항, 광양항의 상관관계는 비교적 높거나 매우 높은 수준으로 나타났다. 본 논문은 상관관계 분석을 통해 정치적 변수와 항만개발예산이 어떤 상관관계에 있는지를 확인하였으나, 국회의원 선거와 대통령 선거, 정권의 지역주의적 성격은 항만개발에 대한 정부의 의사결정과 계획수립, 사업착수 등에 대해서는 중대한 영향을 주었을 가능성이 높다. 향후 항만개발예산에 대한 심도 있는 계량분석과 함께 사업계획 수립, 공사착수 등 질적 변수를 대상으로 한 후속 연구가 필요할 것으로 본다.

A Comparative Review between the English Language Programs of Maritime Institutes in Korea and Europe

  • This paper compares the English language programs of two maritime institutes in very different parts of the world, South Korea and Belgium. It will show that although both institutes comply with the minimum standard set by the STCW Code issued by the IMO, course contents and requirements can vary greatly. Method of class delivery, choice of learning tools and testing will be examined to illustrate some of these differences. This paper will show that in order to train new seafarers in the best possible way that will fulfill the IMO mandate of Safer Shipping and Cleaner Oceans, continual review and development of course curriculum should be an ongoing process that focusing on encouraging cadets to communicate in a targeted, efficient and professional way within a nautical context. This paper will show by comparison the huge potential that the Korean Maritime English program has for positive change and growth.

A Study on Knowledge Sharing in Distributed Environment

  • This exploratory study aims to investigate issues that, according to the Nonaka's theoretical model, are believed to hold significant ramifications on the effectiveness of creating and sharing organizational knowledge among distributed workers. These include changes in accessibility of knowledge with different levels of implicity, and the choice of communication media as a knowledge management channel. Related data were gathered from distributed-workers in Japan through interviews and a survey questionnaire. Data analysis revealed changes in the dynamics of internal and external interactivity, in the accessibility of necessary knowledge, and in the reliance on electronic media for knowledge exchange. The findings' implications are discussed from the perspective of knowledge creation ana sharing, and further suggestions have been made for the direction of future research efforts.
