Empirical Study of Multimodal Transport Route Choice Model in Freight Transport between Korea and Mongolia

  • According to globalization of world economy on distribution and sales, logistics and transportation parts are play important role. Especially, it important to know and study how to choose right transport route and which is the key factor of route choice model in multimodal transport system. Thus this study aims to consider 4 main factors: cost, delivery time, freight, and logistics service factors additionally dividing into 13 sub factors and object is forwarders between Mongolia and Korean freight transport. The survey is based on AHP through interview with company officials. The paper provides empirical insights about current status of Mongolian forwarders and difference of the important factors between transportation modes. Result shows that time factor is role factor to choose transport route and then cost factors. Additionally, this study shows 2 different route choose factors between air transport and shipping transport forwarders.

접근성에 따른 운송수단 선택행동에 관한 분석 : 충남-위해구간을 중심으로 (Analysis of Transportation Mode Choice Behavior Based on Accessibility : Focused on Chungnam-Weihai route)

  • 항공 및 해상교통수단의 발전과 소득 및 여가시간의 증대로 해외로 출국하는 여행객의 수는 매년 증가하고 있는 실정이다. 하지만 충청남도는 한국에서 유일하게 공항이 없는 지역으로 충남도민들은 해외 여행 시 인천 등 타 지역을 통해 여행을 하여야 하는 불편함을 겪고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 충남도민들의 접근교통에 따른 운송수단 선택행동에 관하여 분석하였다. 이를 위하여 Stated-preference(SP) data를 활용하여 Multinominal Logit Model(MNL)을 이용하였다. 충남도민들이 해외여행 시 운송수단 선택의 경우 거주지에 따라 다른 특성을 보이는 것으로 분석되었다. 또한 거주지-공항/항만까지 접근성이 공항/항만-목적지까지 운송보다 교통수단 선택행동에 더 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석됐다. 특히 접근소요시간 및 접근교통 운영 빈도요인이 가장 큰 영향을 미치고 있는 반면 운송시간이 상대적으로 적은 영향을 미치고 있는 것으로 분석되었다. 운송수단의 선택은 여객터미널 선정에도 영향을 미치는 것으로 여객터미널 운영사는 접근성을 중요하게 고려하여야 한다. 접근교통수단의 개선은 인천공항을 이용하여 중국으로 출국하는 이용객 중 일부 여객 수요가 전환될 수 있다는 결론이 도출되었다.

U.S. Port Investment Strategies and the Corresponding Economic Impacts Stemming from the Panama Canal Expansion

  • This paper measures the economic impacts of the U.S. port investment strategies coping with the Panama Canal expansion. Using secondary import data, negative and positive estimates of the impacts were presented in this study. Reduced port activities into the West Coast Customs Districts negatively affect transportation and warehousing industries, among other effects. Still, they have simultaneous positive effects in other states from increased imports resulting from modal shifts and changes in the entry port located in the South and East coasts. This study applied the supply-driven National Interstate Economic Model that measures all interstate trade among the U.S. states to divert foreign imports from 15 Pacific Rim countries. For this purpose, the following assumption was adopted: larger ships using the canal will lead to a redirection of seaborne trade among U.S. (and other) ports and result in secondary effects, e.g., using different freight modes and regional growth spillovers. This study also accounted for the entry point change and significant port investments for foreign trade under alternative scenarios. The choice of ports for international trade depends on decisions about how to minimize multimodal delivery costs. The total direct reduction of transportation and warehousing activities associated with foreign imports in the West Coast ports was estimated at $3.3 billion, leading to total negative effects of $5.8 billion. Total positive impacts from the shift of transportation modes with the choice of an entry port and new warehousing activities for foreign imports in the selected 12 states varied. As expected, states that involved an entry port had the most prominent benefits, but Texas, New York, and New Jersey may be benefited through all the port enhancement projects in the U.S. Also, except for Transportation and Postal, and Warehousing industries, Construction is another dominant positive affected industry of the Canal expansion in the U.S.

A Study on the Reasonable Service Charges for Incheon North Port(berth 3) under the Private Investment Project

  • Recently, port development has been actively in progress through a private investment project. Incheon North Port functions as an auxiliary port for Incheon Port to solve its chronic demurral and freight congestion and to treat materials such as wood, iron material, feed materials. Service charges is one of important factors in the port choice to treat general goods. In general, service charges can be calculated by two methods such as cost accounting method and market price method. This study will review the characteristics of the Incheon North Port (berth 3), which is under the progress of the private investment project and estimate the reasonable service charges for general goods on the basis of market price. This will help a concessionaire to maximize the operation efficiency.

An Analysis of the Decision Factors on Mokpo Port by Multinomial Logit Model

  • Relative importance of maritime transport that takes charge of main current of freight in country' economy is very large. Especially, port and facility carry out important role which treats freight of import and export smoothly and improves international trade as turning point, to achieve key role on connection and association between sea and land. For such reason, enlargement of port facilities or development of port needs to grasp exactly the utilization of port, attributes and selective factors of shipper. On the other hand, the amounts of physical distribution on Mokpo port located in Korean west coast are increasing, with fast economic growth of East Asian including China. This study uses discrete choice model that is measuring to analyze attribute and characteristic of Mokpo port, and analyzes port selection by decision factors of shipper. This paper composed a questionnaire using the result of preceding research, to decide port selection factor among competitive ports. Through factor analysis on a basis of the questionnaire' result, five principal components were extracted. These are resorted out by Logit model, to grasp competitive elements of port. This research fin present direction which raises competitive power of ports in west coast of Korea, especially on alternative and concentration of middle-class port as Mokpo may be useful.

선택기반 화물데이타를 이용한 개별로짓모형의 적용에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Application of Disaggregate Logit Models from Choice-Based Freight Data)

  • 지난 20여년간 화물수송 분야에는 큰 변화가 있었다. 수송 공급 측면에서는 보다 다양하고 기술적으로 앞선 수송수단들이 등장했으며, 수송 수요 측면에서는 로지스틱스 개념의 도입으로 화주들의 보다 높은 수송 서비스가 요구 되었다. 수송수단의 수송 분담에 있어서도 특히 철도에서 공로로의 두드러진 화물이동 현상이 나타났다. 이러한 변화는 수송 현안 해결에 대한 관심을 높이고 화물수송수요 예측기법의 이론적, 개념적인 발달을 가져왔다. 그 중 두드러진 발달은 화주의 행태를 반영하는 행태모형의 개발과 새로운 자료수집 방법 및 자료형태이다. 전통적으로 화물수송 및 교통 연구에 널리 사용된 행태모형은 확률표본을 사용하여 왔으나, 80년대 부터 비확률 표본 사용에 관심이 높아졌다. 그 대표적인 것으로 기반근거 데이터를 들 수 있다. 이 데이터는 제한된 정보를 제공한다는 자료자체의 한계를 지니고 있으나, 자료수집이 용이하고 비용이 저렴하다는 장점을 가지고 있다. 화물수송 분야에서 선택기반 데이터를 이용한 연구는 현재까지 두 편이 발표 되어 있다. 따라서 볼 연구는 선택기반 데이터를 이용한 개별선택모형의 잠재력을 검증하는 것을 그 목적으로 하고, 네 종류의 제조품 그룹을 대상으로 기반근거 데이터를 수집하여 로짓모형을 추정하였으며, 추정결과를 이전 연구들의 결과와 비교하여 그 타당성을 검토 하였다. 추정된 결과는 통계적으로 유의하며 직관적으로 타당한 것으로 나타난다. 또한 그 결과는 문헌의 결과와도 일치하였다. 수송계획에 있어서 자료수집비용 절감의 필요성을 생각할 때 이것은 중요한 의미를 지닌다.

고속철도에 있어서 접근도의 중요성 분석에 관한 연구 (An Analysis of the Importance of Accessibility for High Speed Railway : Stated-Preference Approach)

  • The introduction of high speed railway system a significant impact on the conventional inter-urban transport systems by inducing a significant traffic from the existing modes as well as generating a new traffic. It is also closely related to intra-urban transport systems as the inter-urban traffic has its origin and destination in a city. In the context of mode choice, for high speed transport systems, it has been argued that the accessibility is the most important attribute conceived by users. Thus this study attempts to analysis the importance of the accessibility for the planned high speed railway systems particularly with respect to the location of Busan Station. For this Stated-Preference approach, which is considered appropriate for such study, is adopted, and disaggregate binary logit models for mode choice between the high speed railway and air service in Busan-Seoul corridor are developed. The elasticities for cost and service variables are also derived. The results disclose that cost is the most important which is inconsistent with most previous studies ; accessibility has considerable impact on the choice ; and frequency however has a little impacts. Concerning location of the high speed railway station the results suggest that the longer the access distance is, the more important the accessibility is. This implies that the connection of reliable access transport services such as underground are essential between the terminal and urban center.

  • The development of Korea in the Northeast through trade is not a matter of choice as far as national strategy is concerned, but is an important national policy that is a matter of life or death which will determine the future fate of Korea. This thesis will attempt to arrive at a general, tangible plan for the development of Korea in the Northeast centered around trade by examining the change in naval environment at home and abroad, the given economic situation in the Northeast, and the present state of essential port development in Korea-China-Japan. Its objective will be to provide strategies for the development of Busan port confrontation. For the last ten years, China has been growing at a rapid rate. Since a lot of the volume of naval trade is being transferred from Korea to China, we must do everything we can to improve the service and reduce cost. In addition, Japan also is losing international position. Japan's government and the private industry are trying to make Super Core Ports a prominent feature of their port system. If the Busan port system is to remain competitive, these aspects of the Japanese port system must be kept in mind to prevent trade from going to other ports with more competitive systems.

  • 지선버스 노선선정의 경우, 전체 네트워크로서의 노선선정 보다는 지하철 역 등의 특정 기ㆍ종점과의 연계차원에서 단일 노선으로 취급하여 노선선정을 행함이 바람직하다. 본 연구에서는 이와 같은 관점 하에 정류장 대기시간, 환승시간 등은 고려하지 않고, 일정 기ㆍ종점을 연결하는 지선노선 선정을 위한 간편 기법을 구축하였다. 검토대상 도로망 한정, 허용노선장에 의한 후보노선의 열거, 노선평가치에 의한 최종 노선의 선정 등의 3가지 단계를 통해 지선기능으로서의 마을버스 노선을 선정하는 기법을 구축하였다.

컨테이너 터미널 경쟁력향상을 위한 항만마케팅 전략에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Port Marketing Strategy for Strengthening the Competitive Power of the Container Terminal)

  • The intensification of the competition among container terminals has led to important affect such as, decision making or aggressive intervention of customers for terminal operation. Therefore, in case of developed ports, the large transition of port operation is composed of the press of terminal customer than decision making of terminal manager. Overall port tariffs for using terminal is made out by the conference of terminal customers than the supreme headquarters of terminal operation, and the related investment of terminal has been made according to requisition or proposal of customers. Therefore, among decision making problems that shippers, shipping companies, and freight forwarder among decision making problems that shippers, shipping companies, and freight forwarder face, the choice of the container terminal is one of the most important problems. So, the decision making of the users seems to have a significant impact on the competitive power of container terminals. The main objective of this study is to design port marketing strategy for strengthening the competitive power of container terminals. The results of this study were found as follows: Firstly, port authority should establish user-oriented operation policy of terminal as the means of activating the opinion window, using terminal monitoring system(TMS). Secondly, terminal planning and development of government should be made to minimize the lead time, to induce the civil capital and to utilize the economies of scale. Thirdly, port authority needs to endeavor to analyze the information of competing foreign terminals as well to promote the concentrated marketing for the terminal on the users, to train the expert and to develop the new port charge system. Fourthly, to improve the competitive power of the container terminal, Port Authority should optimize the subsystems related to port marketing, far more these systems should be joined organically to work effectively. Finally, port authority system should be introduced, Namely, port should have the enterprise inclination as well s the public inclination.
