  • An yttria-stabilized zirconia(YSZ) thin film on a porous NiO-YSZ substrate for an anode support type solid oxide fuel cell(SOFC) was prepared by an electrophoretic deposition(EPD). Deposition condition and film properties in order to obtain the homogeneous YSZ thin film from the EPD solution with different polarity were studied. In different case of alcohol solution, hydrogen gas was produced in aqueous solution from the electrolyte reaction under constant current above 0.138 mA /$\textrm{cm}^2$.Its reaction generated the bubble-formed defect in the deposited film and decreased weight of the film. The homogeneous YSZ thin film was formed in alcohol solution at a constant current, 0.035 mA /$\textrm{cm}^2$ for 10 s.

  • The corrosion and degradation factors of a current collector in a molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC) were investigated to determine the optimized coating thickness of nickel on STS316L. The results show that the surface morphology and electrical properties depended on the nickel coating thickness. The surface morphology gradually changed from a flat to a porous structure along as the nickel coating thickness decreased, and the electrical resistance of the nickel-coated STS316L increased as the nickel coating thickness decreased. This can be attributed to the diffusion of elements of Fe and Cr from the substrate through the nickel grain boundaries. Additionally, carburization in the metal grains or grain boundaries in an anodic environment was found to influence the electrical properties due to matrix distortion. The resistance of Cr-oxide layers formed in an anodic environment causes a drop in the potential, resulting in a decrease in the system efficiency.

  • Thin film electrodes have been intensively studied for active materials and current collectors to enhance the electrochemical performance. Here, porous structures of nickel-based oxide films, consisting of nickel oxide and copper (II) oxide, which was derived from the copper substrate during the annealing process, were deposited on metallic copper foils. The half-cell tests revealed excellent capacity retention after $80^{th}$ charge/discharge cycles. Some films showed an excess of the theoretical capacity of nickel oxides, which mainly originate from partially oxidized copper substrates during annealing. These results exhibit that both a preparation method of an active materials and partially oxidized current collectors could be important roles to apply thin film electrodes.

  • In this work, a nano-sized samaria-doped ceria(SDC) was prepared by a urea-based hydrothermal method and characterized by XRD, FESEM and TEM. It was observed that the increase in synthesis time and temperature gave rise to crystallity and particles size. Moreover, the synthesised powders had a excellent ion-conductivity(0.1 S/cm at 600~$800^{\circ}C$) which is suitable for electrolyte of intermediate temperature-solid oxide fuel cell(IT-SOFC). Subsequently for use as electrolyte for anode-supported IT-SOFC, we tried to deposit the SDC powder on a porous NiO-SDC substrate by electrophoretic deposition(EPD) method. From the FESEM observation, a compact
