The physical properties of sintered body made from 3 kinds of slip, F (Flocculated), M (Moderate), and D (Dispersed) for coal fly ash 70-clay 30 (wt%) were studied in terms of slip states and pore size distribution of sintered bodies. The floc particle size distribution for slip F was wider than slip D and the slip F contained flocs larger than 11 $\mu\textrm{m}$. The pore size distribution of the green body of all slips ranged over 1∼4 $\mu\textrm{m}$. The pores smaller than 1 $\mu\textrm{m}$ almost disappeared during the sintering process, while the larger pore of 2.5∼3 $\mu\textrm{m}$ growed by 1 $\mu\textrm{m}$. The pore distribution for the green body of slip F became a narrow in width and high in height after sintering and the large pore limit in a slip F sintered body was 5.1 $\mu\textrm{m}$ which is smaller than that of other slip. The slip F rather flocculated was favorable over slip D well dispersed, in offering a higher compressive strength. From these results, the mechanical strength of sintered body is dependent on the pore distribution which could be controlled by dispersion state of the slips.

The pore volume of hardened cement with waterproofing materials is lower compared to that of hardened cement without waterproofing materials. Thus, fewer gaps will appear by means of chemical reactions between $Ca^{2+}$ ions in hardened cement and water, solutes, and other ions. Due to the selective permeability, the osmotic pressure of hardened cement can change due to physical effects such as the reduction of the pore volume and the reduction in the number of pores, as well as by the electrochemical reaction between water, solutes, other ions and $Ca^{2+}$ ions in hardened cement. Of course, these factors do not have independent effects but instead a combined complex effect. Accordingly, we studied changes in the osmotic pressure due to the difference in the pore structure of hardened cement. A pore size smaller than 1 nm in hardened cement had only a slight effect on the osmotic pressure, whereas a pore size larger than 1 nm had a direct effect on the osmotic pressure.

The purpose of this study was to determine the pore size distributions (PSDs) of polyester woven fabrics by using liquid extraction method. Three types of PSDs-percent PSD, PSD per unit area of sample and PSD per unit weight of sample-were evaluated. Plain, twill and satin polyester fabrics with various fabric counts were used as specimens. Results showed that the interyarn PSDs reflected the fabric characteristics such as the fabric count and the weave type and the intrayarn PSDs reflected the thread characteristics such as the number of fibers, the fiber diameter, the thread diameter and the thread twist. Of three types of PSDs, the PSD per unit area of sample best reflect fabric and thread characteritics. As the fabric count decreased, rc increased and interyarn pore volume increased. The PSDs were skewed to the small pore sizes and the pore volumes decreased in the order of plain> twill> satin. As the number of fibers, the fiber diameter and the thread twist decreased, the intrayarn pore volumes were increased.

In this study, we investigated the effect of the number of passes through agrinder on the pore characteristics of nanofibrillated cellulose (NFC) mat. The beaten pulp suspension was used to make NFC suspension using a grinder. To evaluate the pore characteristics of a NFC mat, the surface morphology of the dried NFC mat was observed with FE-SEM and the specific surface area was analyzed with BET nitrogen gas adsorption. The structure of NFC mat was changed with the different number of passes and drying methods. The specific surface area of NFC mat increased with the increase in the number of passes. The 20-passed NFC mat had 20 times larger specific surface area ($141m^2/g$) compared to the 0-passed NFC mat. The specific surface area was strongly correlated with the average pore size in NFC mat. The average pore diameter in NFC mat was calculated from the gas sorption isotherms using BJH model. The value was 13 - 15 nm, indicating that the NFC mat had mesoporous structure.
During the phloem development from parenchyma cells in a suspension culture of Streptanthus induced sucrose carrier and glucose carrier disappeared. Sieve element area and sieve pore induced suspension culture of Streptanthus were formed almost at the last period of the synthesis of sieve endoplasmic reticulum (SER) and p-protein. The new synthesized cell wall begann to digeste only after the new cell wall was surrounded by SER. The digested region of the cell wall and the formed region of sieve pore were regular comparatively. The completed sieve pore was an oval form, and the outer portion of sieve pore varied, ca 1.2 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$~1.6 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in longitudinal, 0.8 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$~1.3 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in tangential, and the inner size of sieve pore was irregular form of a star-like shape. The number of sieve pore between sieve cells was ca 2~7 per ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$$^2$ and the sieve pore wall with callose was 0.05 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$~0.07 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in thickness. The energy for the formation of sieve element area and sieve pore might be supplied by mitochondria near the new cell wall and the role of SER remains to be illucidated.
Annually, the global production of construction aggregates reaches over 40 billion tons, making aggregates the largest mining sector by volume and value. Currently, the aggregate industry is shifting from sand to hard rock as a result of legislation limiting the extraction of natural sands and gravels. A major implication of this change in the aggregate industry is the need for understanding rock fragmentation and energy absorption to produce more cost-effective aggregates. In this paper, we focused on incorporating dynamic rock and soil mechanics to understand the effects of loading rate and water saturation on the rock fragmentation and energy absorption of three different sandstones (Red, Berea and Buff) with different pore sizes. Rock core samples were prepared in accordance to the ASTM standards for compressive strength testing. Saturated and dry samples were subsequently prepared and fragmented via fast and dynamic compressive strength tests. The particle size distributions of the resulting fragments were subsequently analyzed using mechanical gradation tests. Our results indicate that the rock fragment size generally decreased with increasing loading rate and water content. In addition, the fragment sizes in the larger pore size sample (Buff sandstone) were relatively smaller those in the smaller pore size sample (Red sandstone). Notably, energy absorption decreased with increased loading rate, water content and rock pore size. These results support the conclusion that rock fragment size is positively correlated with the energy absorption of rocks. In addition, the rock fragment size increases as the energy absorption increases. Thus, our data provide insightful information for improving cost-effective aggregate production methods.

Carbon black have not been used as pigment material in cosmetic because of very low density and dispersity, but carbon black have applicable character as black pigment because of non-toxic, stable physico-chemical property, and black colority. In this study, mesoporous silica samples were synthesized by sol-gel reaction using surfactants-template method; TEOS (tetraethoxysilane) - a) PEO/lecithin, b) PEO/polyethylene glycol, c) lecithin/polyethylene glycol in ethanol/water solution. Synthesized organic-inorganic hybrid - silica were heat-treated in N2 condition at 500$^{\circ}C$. Mesoporous silica with black carbon in pore have the effective density and show the good dispersity in both hydrophilic and hydrophobic solvent. Properties of the samples were measured; specific surface area (750㎡/g) and pore size (4-6nm) using BET, pore structure (cylindrical type) using XRD, morphology (spherical powder with 0.1-0.5$\mu\textrm{m}$ partical size) of the samples using SEM. Carbon-silica black color applied to mascara, it shows a dark black colority and good dispersity as compared with the general black color titania pigment. Moreover, it is possible to control the density of black color pigment because it is possible to control pore volume and particle size of mesoporous silica properly. It show the good volume effects in mascara. That is why possible to apply all kinds of cosmetic products.
Chemically stable Polyvinylidene fluoride-hexa-fluoropropane (PVDF-HFP) copolymer asymmetric membranes were prepared by the conventional phase inversion process, using Dimethyacetamide (DMAc) as a solvent and water as a non-solvent. To control the pore size and porosity of the PVDF-HFP membranes, tetra-ethoxysilane (TEOS) was used as a pore-forming agent. The prepared membranes were characterized, using several analytical methods such as Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Thermo-gravimetric analyzer (TGA), Field Emission Scanning Electronic Microscopy (FESEM). TEOS turned out to increase porosity and make homogeneous pores on the membranes. Depending on the composition of the dope solutions, the pore size was ranged from 0.1 to 1.0 ${\mu}m$. The flux of the PVDF-HFP membranes prepared by using TEOS as a pore forming agent was increased substantially without much decrease in the rejection. When 15 wt% PVDF-HFP solution was blended with 13 wt% TEOS solution at composition ratio of 70/30 in wt%, the water flux at 2 bars was about 2 $m^3/m^2day$.
This paper describes the adsorption/desorpton efficiency of a modified activated carbon by irradiated microwave to treat toluene. By employing microwave energy, the regeneration time was considerably shortened compared with conventional thermal heating regeneration. New adsorbent called ACB (Activated Carbon-Bentonite) was prepared from powder activated carbon with mixing bentonite as a binder. Specific surface area, average pore size and total pore volume of ACB were calculated from the nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherm. The surface of ACB was characterized with scanning electron microscope(SEM). The results showed that the specific surface area, total pore volume, average pore size of ABC was not influenced by regenerating cycle with microwave irradiation. Toluene was adsorbed onto ACB which desorbed by MW irradiation. Absorption capacity of ACB was 0.117 $g_{toluene}/g_{ACB}$. Desorption efficiency of toluene increased as higher microwave output was applied.
In order to investigate the relationship between pore size distribution and freezing-thawing resistance of mortars, polymer-cement mortars were prepared by using styrene-butadiene rubber latex, ethylene-vinyl acetate emulsion and polyacrylic ester emulsion with various polymer-cement ratios at constant flow. From the results of the test, polymer-cement mortars had a good pore size distribution for freezing-thawing resistance compared with unmodified mortars because of having a small pore volume in the pore radius range of 103~104 $\AA$ affecting on the frost damage. And the freezing-thawing resistance of polymer-cement mortars was improved with increasing polymer-cement ratio.
