  • Symmetric asymmetric and composite perfluoropolymer membranes made with HYFLON AD have been prepared and evaluated. Porous and non porous symmetric membranes have been prepared by solvent evaporation with various processing conditions. Non-contact atomic force microscopy (AFM) was used to investigate the membrane morphology in air. Analysis of the images gave quantitative imformation on the surface pore strcture in particular on the pore size distributin. Possible useful uses of porous membranes are envisaged in the field of gas-liquid separations such as membrane contactors (MSc) Molecular Dynamics(MD) simulations structure of HYFLON AD 60X copolymer supporting these results are also reported. Amorphous perfluoropolymer membranes appears to be ideal other than in MCs when separation processes have to be performed in hostile environments i.e. high temperatures and aggressive non-aqueous media such as chemicals and solvents. In these cases HYFLON AD mem-branes can exploit the outstanding resistance of perfluoropolymers.

  • The purpose of this paper os to present and discuss some of flow and drain observed in modelling results. Because dredged fill ground of Yul-Chon located in the south coast of Korea is very soft, this ground should be improved after operation of surface stabilization. There are surface stabilization method such as chemical stabilization, desiccation, horizontally vacuum drain, replacement, and geosynthetics. In Yul-Chon, PTM(Progressive Trenching Method) is adopted to provide the necessity condition of surface desiccation. In the case trench in the dredged soft ground is formed by PTM equipment, pore water in the ground is drained through trench. There, drain and desiccation of surface ground increase, and bearing capacity is improved. In this research, when trench in the dredged soft ground is formed by PTM equipment, permeable characteristics and drain efficiency of pore-water are analyzed using SEEP/W software package. Results show variation of total head, pressure head, flux, hydraulic gradient, and flow quantity.

  • It has been recognized that unsaturated soil behavior plays an importantrole in geomechanics. In the last decade several constitutive models have been proposed and used in the analysis. Many of them, however, are constructed in the frame work of rate independent model such as elasto-plastic one. Although rate dependency is an important characteristics of soil for both saturated and unsaturated soils, very few models have been developed taking account of rate dependency. In the present paper, we have developed an elasto-viscoplastic model considering an effect of suction based on the overstress-type viscoplasticity with soil structure degradation. In the model, we have adopted an averaged pore pressure composed of pore water pressure and air pressure to determine the effective stress.

  • This paper presents the results of analytical and numerical analyses of the effects of performing a pressuremeter test or driving a pile in clay. The geometry of the problem has been simplified by the assumptions of plane strain and axial symmetry. Pressuremeter testing or installation of driven piles has been modelled as an undrained expansion of a cylindrical cavity. Stresses, pore water pressures, and deformations are found by assuming that the clay behaves like normally consolidated modified Cam clay. Closed-form solutions are obtained which allow the determination of the principal effective stresses and the strains around the cavity. The analysis which indicates that the intermediate principal stress at critical state is not equal to the mean of the other two principal stresses, except when the clay is initially isotropically consolidated, also permits finding the limit expansion and excess pore water pressures by means of the Almansi finite strain approach. Results are compared with published data which were determined using finite element and finite difference methods.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest basic data for development optimal disassembly manufacturing system during analysis pore structure and heating properties of cementitious joint using conductive resister by induction heating. From the results, we knew cementitious joint is weak easily by heating of conductive resister, such as wire mesh, punching metal, and steel fiber, from induction heating.

  • Slope stability is affected by various factors. For safety management of slopes, monitoring systems have been widely constructed along railway lines. The representative data from the systems are variations of ground profile such like ground water level and pore water pressure etc. and direct displacement measured by ground clinometer and tension wire sensor. Slopes are mainly effected by rainfall and rainfall causes the decrease of factor of safety(FOS). Because FOS varies linearly by the variation of ground water level and pore pressure, it has a weak point that could not define the time and proper warning sign to secure the safety of the train. In this study, alternative of FOS such as reliability index and probability of failure is applied to slope stability analysis introducing the reliability concept. FOS, reliability index, probability of failure and velocity of probability of failure of the slopes by variation of ground water level are investigated for setting up the specification of safety management of slopes. By executing case study of a slope(ILLO-IMSUNGLI), it is showed to be applied to specification of safety management.

  • Total stress analysis method and nonlinear constitutive models have been used to analyze a dynamic performance of Dams but, there is some limitation in analysis, for example, effects of build up of pore pressure and generations of permanent deformations. Therefore considering these limitations, which is mentioned before, dynamic behavior characteristics of dams and response acceleration characteristics was analyzed in time domain, applying an elasto-plastic constitutive model and effective analysis method.

  • In this study, according to drainage condition (undrained and drained) in ground, the settlement and horizontal displacement of caisson quay wall and apron in Yeongilman port due to excess pore water pressure in ground induced by the magnitude 5.4 earthquake in Pohang on November 15, 2017. In general, seismic response analysis was carried out under undrained drainage condition, but in this study, drain drainage analysis was conducted to estimate displacement during earthquake as well as an additional displacement due to dissipation of excess pore water pressure after earthquake. The result of after earthquake can not be known under undrained drainage condition. Results cleary showed that the behavior of structure and ground was dependent on drainage condition in ground. Especially, based on the drained drainage condition, the additional displacement was clearly detected due to dissipation of excess pore water pressure after earthquake. Which indicates that both results are different to drainage condition in ground, and therefore, drainage condition analysis is necessary to accurately estimate the behavior of ground and structure in seismic response analysis.
