Rheological properties and thermal degradation behaviors of sonochemically treated polycarbonate/polysiloxanes blends

  • Two polysiloxanes having different chemical structures were blended with polycarbonate (PC) under ultrasonic irradiation in solution. The polysiloxanes used were poly(methylphenyl siloxane) and vinyl-terminated poly(dimethyl siloxane). It was of primary interest to investigate the effect of polysiloxane structure on the rheological properties of PC/polysiloxane blends. It was found that a small amount (1.5 phr) of polysiloxanes greatly altered the melt viscosities and elasticity of PC. In particular, incorporation of poly(methylphenylsiloxane) led to a notable increase in elasticity with greater shear sensitivity of PC. The observed rheological behaviors of PC/polysiloxane blends were partly explained in conjunction with the tendencies found in ultrasonic degradation of polysiloxanes. Thermal stability and morphology in sonicated blends of PC/polysiloxane blends were also discussed.

  • Aggregation states ans electro-optic properties of a binary mixture by mixing a side chain type liquid crystalline polymer(LCP) and a low molecular weight liquid crystal(LMLC) have been studied. Side chain liquid crystalline polysiloxanes were synthesized from allyl bromide, p-hydroxy benzoic acid, p-cyanophenol, p-methoxyphenol and polysiloxanes. Low molecular weight liquid crystals were synthesized from allyl bromide, p-hydroxy benzoic acid and 4-cyano 4'-hydroxy biphenyl. And then, their properties were compared with blended liquid crystals. The thermal properties of the blended liquid crystals were evaluated using differential scanning calorimetry. The phase behavior of blended sample with temperature were also observed polarized microscope with hot stage. Thus, it seemed to us that a study of LC polysiloxanes with LMLC would be useful, especially in view of the fact that, systematic investigations have been carried out on the effects of changes in LCP/LMLC binary system on the properties of this relatively new type of liquid crystal.

Polysiloxanes Containing Alkyl Side Groups: Synthesis and Mesomorphic Behavior

  • A series of polysiloxanes containing alkylsulfonyl side groups were synthesized using a polymer analogous reaction beginning from poly(methylhydrosiloxane) and the corresponding olefins. These polymers showed a mesomorphic behavior with smectic liquid crystalline phases. The chemical and physical properties of these polymers were examined using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography, differential scanning calorimetry, optical polarizing microscopy, and X-ray diffraction.

  • Silicone oil has organic and inorganic properties, and its skeleton is polysiloxane bonding that silicon is bonded hydrogen or organic group. Silicone compounds are very smooth and lubricant properties by low surface tension, low temperature dependence, and nonadhesive properties. Because of these properties, silicone compounds are used as many parts of chemicals, softener, smooth and libricant agents, water-repellent agent, and defoaming agent, etc. Emulsion was prepared with the inversion emulsification method which adopted the agent-in-oil method dissolving the polyoxyethylene(7) tridecyl ether(HLB 12.2) into methoxy terminated poly(dimethyl-co-methyl amino) siloxane and hydroxy terminated poly(dimethyl-co-methyl amino) siloxane in water. At this time, processed emulsion was almost microemulsion. When ratio of emulsifier increases, emulsion is stable bacuause microemulsion is solubilized by emulsion drop size and zeta-potential are decreased. But, when amount of electrolyte is increase, emulsion became unstable because emulsion drop size is increased.

Photochromic Polysiloxanes Substituted with 1,2-Bis(2-methyIbenzo[b]thiophene-3-yl)hexafluorocyclopentene

  • Photochromic diarylethene polymers (DPs) in which 1,2-bis(2-methylbenzo[b ]thiophene-3-yl)hexafluorocyclopentene (BTF6) were covalently grafted onto the polymer main chain as pendant photochromic units were newly synthesized and their photochromic properties were investigated using steady-state and picosecond timeresolved spectroscopies. Polysiloxanes substituted with BTF6 molecules were prepared by sol-gel process using a mixture of tetraethoxysilane (TEOS), a silylated BTF6, and an organically modified silane precursor in the presence of HCl. The polysiloxane film (DP1) prepared from $\omega-methoxy$ poly(ethylene glycol) 3-(triethoxysilyl) propylcarbainate (MPGSC) as the silane precursor showed a much lower glass transition temperature than that (DP2) from heptadecafluorodecyltrimethoxysilane (HDFTMS). The ring-closure quantum yields of DP1 and DP2 were determined to be 0.20 and 0.02, respectively. Such a large difference in the quantum yield was attributed to the polymer matrix environment of the free inner volume.

Synthesis And Ionic Conductivity of Siloxane Based Polymer Electrolytes with Propyl Butyrate Pendant Groups

  • Hydrosilylation reactions of 2.4.6.8-tetrahydro-2.4.6.8-tetramethylcyclotetrasiloxane with allyl butyrate catalyzed by Karstedt's, $H_2PtCl_6$ and Pt/C catalyst were studied and 2.4.6.8-tetra (propyl butyrate)-2.4.6.8-tetramethylcyclotetrasiloxane was obtained. The reaction order, activation energies and rate constants were determined. Ringopening polymerization of 2.4.6.8-tetra (propyl butyrate)-2.4.6.8-tetramethylcyclotetrasiloxane in the presence of $CaF_2$, LiF, KF and anhydrous potassium hydroxide in $60-70^{\circ}C$ temperature range was carried out and methylsiloxane oligomers with regular arrangement of propyl butyrate pendant groups were obtained. The synthesized products were studied by FTIR and NMR spectroscopy. The polysiloxanes were characterized by wide-angle X-ray, gel-permeation chromatography and DSC analyses. Via sol-gel processes of oligomers doped with lithium trifluoromethylsulfonate or lithium bis (trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide, solid polymer electrolyte membranes were obtained. The dependences of ionic conductivity of obtained polyelectrolytes on temperature and salt concentration were investigated, and it was shown that electric conductivity of the polymer electrolyte membranes at room temperature changed in the range $3.5{\times}10^{-4}{\sim}6.4{\times}10^{-7}S/cm$.

고분자 유기실리콘 계면활성제의 개발 동향 (Trend on Development of Polymeric Organosilicone Surfactants)

  • 실리콘계 계면활성제는 소수성 유기실리콘 그룹에 하나 또는 그이상의 친수성 극성그룹이 결합되어 있다. 반면에 탄화수소 계면활성제의 소수성 그룹은 탄화수소이다, 실리콘 계면활성제는 낮은 계면장력, 윤활성, 퍼짐성, 발수성, 열 안정성, 화학적 안정성 때문에 폴리우레탄 폼을 시작으로 건설재료, 화장품, 페인트잉크, 농약 등 많은 산업분야에 사용되고 있다. 다양한 응용분야에서의 요구사항을 반영하기 위한 다양한 기능을 가진 폭 넓은 화학구조를 가진 실리콘 계면활성제들이 필요하다. 본 총설에서는 소수성 폴리실록산 중추로서의 폴리디메틸실록산과 반응성 폴리실록산의 성질과 합성방법, 반응성 폴리실록산을 친수성 그룹과 결합시키는 규소수소화반응 같은 주요 반응방법, 그리고 폴리에테르, 이온성, 카보하드레이트 타입 같은 주요 고분자 실록산 계면활성제들의 합성방법을 논의한다.

광가교 반응에 의한 미세 상 분리된 실리콘 오일을 함유하는 폴리실록산 복합체 필름의 제조 (Preparation of Polysiloxane Composite Films with Microphase-Separated Silicone Oiol by Photocrosslinking)

  • 말단에 수소화물기가 치환된 폴리실록산과 알릴 메타크릴레이트와의 히드로실릴레이션 반응을 통하여 폴리실록산 메타크릴레이트를 합성하였다. 또한 산 촉매 하에서 옥타메틸사이클로테트라실록산의 개환-부가반응을 통하여 분자량이 증가된 폴리실록산 메타크릴레이트을 합성하였다. 합성된 폴리실록산 메타크릴레이트는 $^1$H- 및 $^{29}$ Si-NMR로 구조를 확인하였다. 폴리실록산 메타크릴레이트는 실리콘 오일과 균일하게 혼합되었으며, 이 용액을 광 가교시켜 액상인 실리콘 오일이 수 백 nm 정도의 크기로 고르게 미세상분리된 폴리실록산 복합체 필름을 제조할 수 있었다. 주사전자현미경(SEM)을 이용한 모폴로지 관찰로부터 실리콘 오일의 함량이 작을수록, 매트릭스 물질인 폴리실록산 메타크릴레이트의 분자량이 낮을수록, 그리고 분산상 물질인 실리콘 오일의 분자량이 낮을수록 대체적으로 분산상의 크기가 작아짐을 확인하였다

PU/PDMS-PTFE 복합막을 이용한 증기투과공정에 의한 물로부터 휘발성 유기화합물 제거 (Removal of Volatile Organic Compounds from Water Using PU/PDMS-PTFE Composite Membranes by Vapor Permeation Separation Process)

  • 유기증기에 대한 PDMS의 단점을 보완하기 위해 4,4'-diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI)와 1,4-butanediol(BD)를 이용하여 poly(dimethylsiloxane)를 기초로 한 polyurethane-polysiloxanes (PU/PDMS)를 합성하였다. 그리고 poly(tetrafluoroethylene) (PTFE)를 다공성 지지체로 이용하여 복합막을 제조하여 SEM 분석으로 코팅층의 존재와 두께를 확인하였다. 증기투과실험에서 투과온도와 feed의 농도가 증가할수록 flux는 점차 증가하였고, separation factor는 이와 반대로 점차 감소하는 'trade-off'현상을 보였다. 본 연구에서의 PU/PDMS는 soft segment의 함량보다는 비교적 hard segment의 함량이 높기 때문에 투과온도의 증가에 따른 영향이 크지 않았던 것으로 사료된다. PU/PDMS막은 VOCs와 상대적으로 높은 친화도를 가지고 있기 때문에 PU/PDMS 균질막과 비교하여 복합막의 형태에서도 향상된 flux와 높은 separation factor를 나타내었다.
