The polymer concrete is drawing a strong interest as high-performance materials in the construction industry. Resins using recycled PET offer the possibility of a lower source cost of materials for making useful polymer concrete products. Also the recycling of PET in polymer concrete would help solve some of the solid waste problems posed by plastics and save energy. Polymer concrete beams using unsaturated polyester resins based on recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic waste were used in our study for grasping its structural behavior of static and fatigue. As a result of static test, Compression stress distribution of Polymer concrete indicates linear behavior such as triangles. Although polymer concrete is high strength materials, its ductility capacity is excellent. From the fatigue test results, There was almost no difference on flexural characteristics between before and after fatigue loading. Therefore, recycled PET polymer concrete remains excellent structural ability after fatigue loading.

The increased production and consumption of polyethylene terephthalate (PET)-based products over the past several decades has resulted in the discharge of countless tons of PET waste into the marine environment. PET microparticles resulting from the physical erosion of general PET wastes end up in the ocean and pose a threat to the marine biosphere and human health, necessitating the development of new technologies for recycling and upcycling. Notably, enzyme-mediated PET degradation is an appealing option due to its eco-friendly and energy-saving characteristics. PETase, a PET-hydrolyzing enzyme originating from Ideonella sakaiensis, is one of the most thoroughly researched biological catalysts. However, the industrial application of PETase-mediated PET recycling is limited due to the low stability and poor reusability of the enzyme. Here we developed the whole-cell catalyst (WCC) in which functional PETase is attached to the outer membrane of Escherichia coli. Immunoassays are used to identify the surface-expressed PETase, and we demonstrated that the WCC degraded PET microparticles most efficiently at 30℃ and pH 9 without agitation. Furthermore, the WCC increased the PET-degrading activity in a concentration-dependent manner, surpassing the limited activity of soluble PETase above 100 nM. Finally, we demonstrated that the WCC could be recycled up to three times.

This study aimed to review the performance stability of PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) fiber reinforcing materials among the synthetic fiber types for which the application of performance reinforcing materials to fiber-reinforced concrete is being reviewed by examining short-term and long-term performance changes. To this end, the residual performance was analyzed after exposing the PET fiber to an acid/alkali environment, and the flexural strength and equivalent flexural strength of the PET fiber-reinforced concrete mixture by age were analyzed, and the surface of the PET fiber collected from the concrete specimen was examined using a scanning microscope (SEM). The changes in were analyzed. As a result of the acid/alkali environment exposure test of PET fiber, the strength retention rate was 83.4~96.4% in acidic environment and 42.4~97.9% in alkaline environment. It was confirmed that the strength retention rate of the fiber itself significantly decreased when exposed to high-temperature strong alkali conditions, and the strength retention rate increased in the finished yarn coated with epoxy. In the test results of the flexural strength and equivalent flexural strength of the PET fiber-reinforced concrete mixture, no reduction in flexural strength was found, and the equivalent flexural strength result also did not show any degradation in performance as a fiber reinforcement. Even in the SEM analysis results, no surface damage or cross-sectional change of the PET reinforcing fibers was observed. These results mean that no damage or cross-section reduction of PET reinforcing fibers occurs in cement concrete environments even when fiber-reinforced concrete is exposed to high temperatures in the early stage or depending on age, and the strength of PET fibers decreases in cement concrete environments. The impact is judged to be of no concern. As the flexural strength and equivalent flexural strength according to age were also stably expressed, it could be seen that performance degradation due to hydrolysis, which is a concern due to the use of PET fiber reinforcing materials, did not occur, and it was confirmed that stable residual strength retention characteristics were exhibited.

Lightweight of plastic containers is becoming an important issue due to increasing environmental legislation and consumer awareness. In this study, the CAE analysis was conducted to optimize the shape of a 500 ml lightweight square polyethylene terephthalate(PET) bottle. First, the linear buckling alaysis using the finite element method was performed to analyze the correlation between the primary geometric parameters of the bottle and the buckling critical load. Then, the optimal geometry parameters were derived, and the actual buckling load was predicted by non-linear buckling simulation. The validity of the simulation results was verified by top-loading tests of PET bottles molded with the optimized geometry. The elastic modulus and tensile yield strength of PET through tensile tests were measured to improve the accuracy of the simulation. As a result of the tensile tests, the modulus of elasticity of PET increased from 2,900 MPa to 4,275 MPa, and the tensile yield strength increased from 52.4 MPa to 88.1 MPa. Finally the buckling load of the optimized PET bottle was found to be approximately 236 N, which is very similar to the simulation precition of 238 N. This study shows the feasibility and accuracy of the CAE analysis approach for the lightweight design of PET bottles, and will provide useful guidelines for the design of PET bottles.

Aluminium doped zinc oxide (ZnO:Al) thin film has emerged as one of the most promising transparent conducting electrode in flat panel displays(FPD) and in photovoltaic devices since it is inexpensive, mechanically stable, and highly resistant to deoxidation. In this paper ZnO:Al thin film was deposited on the polyethylene terephthalate(PET) substrate by the capacitively coupled r.f. magnetron sputtering method. Wide ranges of bias voltage, -30V${\sim}$45V, was applied to the growing films as an additional energy instead of substrate heating, and the effect of positive and negative bias on the film structure and electrical properties of ZnO:Al films was studied and discussed. The results showed that a bias applied to the substrate during sputtering contributed to the improvement of electrical properties of the film by attracting ions and electrons in the plasma to bombard the growing films. These bombardments provided additional energy to the growing ZnO film on the substrate, resulting in significant variations in film structure and electrical properties. The film deposited on the PET substrate at r. f. discharge power of 200 W showed the minimum resistivity of about $2.4{\times}10^{-3}{\Omega}-cm$ and a transmittance of about 87%.

In this study, we analyzed the empty body weight and nominal volume of different types of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles commercialized in Korean market. Over 780 PET bottles were collected and classified into four types, heat resistance bottle, normal resistance bottle, pressure resistance bottle, and long period using bottle. Each PET bottle's lightness index was established using bottle weight and nominal volume. Based on the index value, "acceptable" and "optimum" criteria for design guideline of PET bottle were summarized for each PET bottle type. In this paper, we suggest the use of PET bottle lightness index as a design guideline for material resource reduction of PET bottle for Korean beverage industries and bottle makers. For example, we can achieve 2~4 g weight reduction in normal pressure bottle for 500 mL drinking water.
A research on material separation of EVA and PET mixture plastic waste using a triboelectrostatic separator has been carried out. It was found that PP was the best charging material to give the highest charge on the surface of EVA and PET mixture plastics with an opposite polarity. Therefore, a charger of pipe line type using PP material was manufactured for separation of EVA and PET mixture plastic waste. At optimum test conditions that used PP cyclone charger developed in this study, we could separate out PET with a glade of 98.7% and a recovery of 89.7%.
Single or dual ion implantations were performed onto the transparent polyethylene terephthalate(PET) sheet, and the surface hardness and the light transmittance in the visual-UV range were examined. Nanoindentation showed that the surface hardness was the highest at about 50 nm depth from the surface and was increased by about 3 times when nitrogen ions were implanted with energy and dose of 90 keV and $1\times10^{15}\textrm{/cm}^2$ respectively. When dual ions such as He+N and N+C ions were implanted into PET, the hardness was increased even more than the case only N ions were implanted. Especially, when PET were implanted with N+C dual ions, the surface hardness of PET increased 5 times more as compared to when implanted with N ions alone. The light at the 550 nm wavelength(visual range) transmitted more than 85%, which is close to that of as-received PET, and at the wavelength below 300 nm(UV range) the rays were absorbed more than 95% as traveling through the sheet. implying that there are processing parameters which the ion implanted PET maintains the transparency and absorbs the UV rays. It can be considered that the increase in the hardness of polymeric materials is attributed to not only cross linking but also forming hard inclusions such as hard C-N compounds, as evidenced by the formation of the highest hardness when both N and C ions are implanted onto PET.

In this parer aluminium-doped zinc oxide(ZnO:Al) conducting layer was deposited on polyethylene terephthalate(PET) substrate by r. f. magnetron sputtering method. The effects of gas pressure and r. f. sputtering power on the structural and electrical properties of ZnO:Al thin film were investigated experimentally. Especially the effect of position of PET substrate on the electrical properties of the film was studied and fixed to improve the electrical properties and also to increase the deposition rate. The results show that the structural and electrical properties of ZnO:Al thin film were strongly influenced by the gas pressure and sputtering power. The minimum resistivity of $1.1{\times}10^{-3}[{\Omega}-cm]$ was obtained at 5[mTorr] of gas pressure, and 18D[W] of sputtering power. The deposition rate of ZnO:Al film at 5[mTorr] of gas pressure was 248[nm/min]. and is higher by around 3 times compared to that at 25[mTorr].

We investigated the life time characteristics of OLED device with aluminium oxide ($AlO_x$) passivation film on glass substrate and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrate by RF magnetron sputtering for the transparent barrier film applied to flexible OLED device. Basic buffer layer was determined as $Alq_3$(500 nm)-LiF(300 nm)-Al(1200 nm), and the most suitable aluminium oxide ($AlO_x$) film have been formed when the partial volume ratio of oxygen was 20% and the sputtering power was 100 watt and the minimum thickness of buffer was $2\;{\mu}m$. $AlO_x$/epoxy hybrid film was also used as a effective passivation layer for the purpose of improving life time characteristics of OLED devices with the glass substrate and the plastic substrate. Besides, the simultaneous deposition of $AlO_x$/epoxy film on back side of PET could result in better improvement of life time.
