Measurement of Maxwell Displacement Current of Polyamic Acid Containing p-Cyanoazobenzene of the Water Surface (p-Cyanoazobenzene을 함유한 Polyamic Acid의 수면상의 Maxwell 변위 전류 측정)

  • Maxwell displacement current(MDC) measuring technique has been applied on the study of monolayers of polyamic acid containing p-cyanoazobenzene. The displacement current was generated from monolayers on the water surface by monolayer compression and expansion. Displacement current was generated when the area per molecule was about $140{\AA}^2$ and $100{\AA}^2$. Maxwell displacement currents were investigated in connection with monolayer compression cycles. It was found that the maximum of MDC appeared at the molecular area just before the initial rise of surface pressure in compression cycles.

  • 막분리 기술은 증류, 추출, 흡착 등의 종래의 분리기술에 비하여 상온, 상압에 가까운 마일드한 조건에서 조작된다는 점과 에너지 절약 및 환경오염원의 물질을 부생시키지 않는 점 등으로 최근 급속한 발전과 함께 응용분야를 넓혀가고 있다. 특히 PV에 대한 기술은 유기액체혼합물의 분리와 공비혼합물의 분리에 아주 유용한 기술로서 그 응용범위가 상당히 넓게 확산되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 Polyimide 막을 PV 분리기술에 적용시킥 위하여 Polyamic acid 전구체를 casting하여 열처리 과정을 거쳐 Polyimide 막을 제막하여 제막공정에 따른 막의 구조 특성을 확인하고, acetic acid의 PV 투과실험을 수행하였다.

  • We have investigated the generation of pretilt angle for a nematic liquid crystal (NLC) alignment with rubbing alignment method on two kinds of polyimide (PI) surfaces using thin plastic substrates. The generated NLC pretilt angles on the pre-imidized type PI are about $3.8^{\circ}$ by the rubbing alignment method with thin plastic substrates, However, the pretilt angle measured at about $2.8^{\circ}$ lower on the polyamic acid type PI than by pre-imidized type PI surface with thin polymer film. The tilt angle increases as increasing curring temperature for making polyimide layer using polyamic acid type PI. It was concluded that pretilt angle in the polyimide surface is attributable to the increasing of imide rato.

  • Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) technique is the best candidate for the future molecular electronic devices. But, these molecular thin film devices require the bulk properties that are influenced by the molecular orientations. So, this is of current interest in molecular electronic device fabrications of new materials. In this study, quantitative evaluation of molecular orientation in LB films of PAAS was performed by comparing the absorption intensities of the FT-IR transmission and reflection-absorption spectra and the polarized UV/visible absorption spectra. It was found that the polar angle($\theta$) of the dipole moment is about 68$^{\circ}$and the tilting angle of the alkyl chain is about $11.5^{\circ}$ .

  • It is an inconvenience for silica nano-particles to dry again when using it in that they cohere each other through moisture in the air. Acrylamide groups were introduced to improve such inconvenience and copolymerized with silica nano-particles and then we copolymerized again with polyamic acid in order to increase thermal characteristic. Amide block copolymers were prepared using silica and (3-mercaptopropyl) trimethoxysilane (MPTMS) with a siloxane group, using 2,6-Lutidine as a catalyst. Amide block polymers and copolymers were synthesized via ATRP after brominating pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA) and polyamic acid of methylene diphenyl diamine (MDA), using ${\alpha}$-bromo isobutyryl bromide. Characteristic peaks of copolymer with amide and imide groups and patterns of amorphous polymers were researched by FT-IR and XRD analyses and the analysis of surface characteristic groups was conducted via XPS. A change in thermal properties was examined through DSC and TGA and solubility for solvents was also researched.

The Preparation of a Polyimide Membrane for the Separation of Water-Acetic Acid Mixture through Pervaporation (Polyimide 막에 의한 물-초산계의 투과증발 분리)

  • The asymmetric polyimide [PI] membrane with good solvent-resisting and heat-resisting properties was prepared by using the phase inversion method from polyamic acid, and its pervaporation separation characteristics of water-acetic acid system were studied. It was appeared from the prepared membranes that the best non-solvent of polyamie acid for the phase inversion was toluene. The best heat-treatment condition for the imidization of polyamic acid was 1 hr heating at each of the temperatures, 373, 473, and 573 K The thermal durability and chemical stability during the pervaporation separation of water-acetic acid of the prepared PI membrane was superior. The pervaporation characteristics of prepared membrane were 180 of separation factor and 0.5 kg/$m^2$hr of total flux for 80 wt% acetic acid feed.

The Structural Effects on The Pretilt Angle of Alignment Materials with Alkylcyclohexylbenzene as a Side Chain in Polyimides

  • Polyamic acid precursors were prepared by mixing various main chain dianhydrides, main chain diamines and side chain diamines. Copolyimide films with alkylcyclohexylbenzene as a side chain were prepared by thermal imidization of polyamic acid precursors. Pretilt angles on rubbed polyimides changed according to the side chain and main chain structures of the polyimide. Consequently, we found that LC pretilt angles of polyimide films with a liquid crystal structure as a side chain showed to be approximately 90$^{\circ}$ when a linear and rigid polyimide main chain and a side chain of suitable length were employed.

  • Two types of polyimide/silica composite films were prepared using sol-gel method through hydrolysis and polycondensation of tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) with the polyamic acid (PAA) and end-capped PAA solution. Samples were characterized by the means of differential thermogravimetry, X-ray diffractometry, scanning electron microscopy, universal test, impedance analyzer, chemical resistance test, etc. All of the PAA/silanol solutions heat-treated at 300$^{\circ}C$ for 6h were transformed to polyimide/silica composites. It has been demonstrated that the properties of polyimide/silica composites were affected by the amount of silica addition and the bend type existed between polyimide and silica.

가용성 폴리이미드의 합성과 내유기용매성 분리막의제조

  • 지금까지 내유기용매성 분리막의 소재로는 Polysulfone이 많이 사용되었으나 내유기용매성이 고도로 요구되는 분야에는 적합하지 않았다. 이의 해결을 위해서 Polyimide를 소재로한 분리막의 개발에 대한 연구가 많이 진행되고 있다. 그러나 Polyimide는 내열성, 내유기용매성 등이 우수한 반면 T$_g$가 높고 용해되지 않아서 가공하는데 많은 제약이 있는 단점을 가지고 있다. 또한 기존에 널리 사용되었던 2단계 합성방법, 즉 Polyimide 전구체인 Polyamic acid를 합성하고 이를 casting하여 film을 얻은 뒤 다시 고온으로 열처리하여 Polyimide를 제조하는 방법은 공정이 번거롭고 부분적으로 불용성을 나타내기도 하였다. 본 연구에서는 1단계 용액 증합법으로 용융성 Polyimide를 합성하여 이를 소재로 내유기용매성 분리막을 제조하였다. 1단계 중합벙는 Polyamic acid를 합성하고 이를 film으로 만드는 공정이 필요치 않으며, 공정이 비교적 간단하고 경제적으로 유리한 잇점이 있다.

Characteristics of Ultrathin Film Prepared through Nano-Sized Langmuir Blodgett Monolayer of Functionalized Polyimide

  • Techniques measuring Maxwell displacement current (MDC) and LB films surface measuring technique have been applied to the study of monolayers of polyamic acid containing azobenzene. MDCs was generated from monolayers on the water surface by monolayer compression and expansion. It was generated when the area per molecule was about $103{\AA}^2\;and\;78{\AA}^2$ just before the initial rise of the surface pressure during the 1st and 2nd mixed monolayer compressions cycle, respectively. It was the maximum of MDCs appeared at the molecular area just before the initial rise of surface pressure in compression cycles, and we have found that the increase of aggregations causes the noticeable increase of the surface roughness.
