Low-loss optical films can be used in LCD backlights to improve the display efficiency. Improvements can be used to enhance display performance, increase functionality and reduce energy costs.

We have studied the optical properties of the biaxial film such as fast axis, retardance and the change of polarization state between crossed polarizer using dual rotating retarder polarimeter. We have developed a novel simulation model, which could explain well the experimental results, and found that it could be used to optimize the compensation film in LCD for improving wide-viewing property.

We propose a transflective In-Plane Switching mode in which patterned retarder is placed only on the reflective area of the upper substrate side. By selecting optic axes of Half Wavelength Plate and Liquid Crystal as 24 and 90 degree with respect to polarizer, condition of low reflectance for visible wavelength range at black state is found.

We report the development of the equipment that can measure the transmittance of the polarizer for TFTLCD application versus azimuth angle of the linear polarization at each micro spot in the section, and therefore measure the degree of iodine permeation and alignment quantitatively at each area of the section.

광전자실험에 사용되고있는 수동 광학소자로는 lense, mirror, grating, prism, polarizer 등 이 있다. 본 연구에서는 각 소자들에 대한 수학적 모델과 실질적 구조에 의한 수치 해석적 모델인 Split-step을 angular spectrum 방법을 구현하고 이를 이용한 실험적 결과를 이론치와 비교 분석하여 모델의 정확성을 분석하였다.

3D Display type have software and hardware architecture in generally got low transmittance characteristics and high price product equipment. In this article, specified polarizer adopted MLA type structure have 3D display with hardware configuration and high transmission wide view angle. Method of screen printing type is adopted B/L system with simple structure.

We need two operation modes to obtain the complex hologram without bias and the conjugate image in the modified triangular interferometer (MTI). To solve the problem, we proposed the optimized MTI with one wave plate, which can obtain cosine and sine functions by the combination of one wave plate and one linear polarizer. In the extraction of phase term using the combination of polarization components, the phase error occurs, and we analyzed such potential phase errors in the optimized MTI.

본 논문에서는 주어진 주파수대역에서 우수한 원편파 특성을 가지고 광대역에서 저반사 손실을 가지는 이종대역 안테나 피드용 원형도파관 유전체 편파기의 설계기법을 제시하였다. 양호한 편파특성을 위한 유전체판 두께와 원형 도판관 직경의 결정방법을 제시하였다. 또한 이종 대역 안테나 피드용으로 광대역에서 저반사 손실을 가지기 위한 유전체 형상 설계기법을 제시하였다.

반사형 STN-LCD (supertwisted nematic liquid crystal display) 는 많은 display에서 사용되고 있는 LCD mode 중의 하나이다. 그러나 현재 많이 사용되는 반사형 STN-LCD는 그림 1과 같이 한 장의 polarizer와 두장의 retardation film을 사용하는 구조이므로 각각의 component에 대한 parameter들에 의해 display의 표시 성능이 좌우된다. 먼저 Reflective STN-LCD의 보상에 필요한 parameter를 살펴보면, 그림 1과 같이 5개 ( $\alpha$, ø$_1$, ø$_2$, 각 retarder의 retardation : Δnd$_1$, Δnd$_2$)의 parameter의 결정이 필요하다.
