  • In this paper, circular polarized microstrip antenna with a conducted hollow cylinder-typed via around the coaxial probe is proposed to enhance the bandwidth of an RFID portable reader microstrip antenna. An antenna of thickness of 6.4 mm and size of $84{\times}84\;mm$ is manufactured with FR4 substrate and its 10 dB return loss bandwidth is measured to be 92 MHz, which is about three times large than the same size's microstrip antenna without hollow cylindrical via. The measured antenna gain and the axial ratio at each are $0.01{\sim}1.825\;dB$ and $2.3{\sim}8.2\;dB$ within 10 dB return loss bandwidth, respectively.

  • This paper presents the novel design of circular polarized Ka-band horn array antenna. The element antenna of the arrya is composed of two parts, microstrip patch and square horn, and the microstrip patch is fed by corner truncated microstrip patch for circular polarization. The patch antenna has the role of a feeder and polarizer of the horn, thus the whole size of the horn antennae can be considerably reduced. The $1{\times}8$ horn array was designed and fabricated by the spacing of $0.9{\lambda}_0$ among the element horn. The element horn has typical gain of 8dBi and axial-ratio bandwidth of 4.9% at 3dB, and the minimum gain and axial-ratio bandwithd of the array is 14dBi and 8.2%.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel method for implementing a microstrip patch antenna with circular polarization characteristics through an asymmetric inset feed structure. The proposed method involves designing an antenna by taking advantage of the length difference of the asymmetric inset slots inserted into the antenna, as well as the lengths of additional slots incorporated into the design to achieve circular polarization characteristics. Using this approach, we designed and fabricated an antenna operating at 2.4 GHz in the S-band for satellite communication systems, utilizing a 1 mm thick FR-4 dielectric substrate. The measurement results confirmed a gain of 2dBi, an axial ratio of less than 3dB, and a reflection coefficient below -10dB in the frequency range of 2.35 to 2.43 GHz. Based on these results, it is expected that by employing the proposed method, circularly polarized antennas utilizing inset feeds can be realised, thereby making them applicable in small satellite communication systems and various wireless IoT environmental service applications that use the ISM band.

  • In this paper, we consider the capacity improvement of systems exploiting dual-polarized antennas for two-user transmission. To this end, we analyze the upper bounds of ergodic capacities for multicast and unicast data services in the systems, and propose the condition for adjusting the complex cross-polarization discriminations (XPDs) to maximize the ergodic capacities. In addition, we present the adjustment condition of the complex XPDs that can achieve spectral efficiencies close to the maximum ergodic capacities with lower system complexity. Lastly simulation results demonstrate that the systems using the proposed conditions can obtain higher spectral efficiencies than the ones employing different adjustment conditions including the exiting adjustment condition.

  • This paper describes beam-tilting characteristics of horizontally polarized EMCD (electromagnetically coupled dipole) array antennas. The result of one element radiator is used for array elements designs and is evaluated its characteristics. Theoretical frequency characteristics and radiation pattern of the horizontally polarized EMCD array antennas analyzed by FDTD method agree well with the measured results of the practically fabricated way antennas. The measured main beam tilt ang1e and 3 dB beam width of the fabricated 20-element array antennas are 47$^{\circ}$and about $\pm$7.5$^{\circ}$, respectively. A good radiation pattern and beam tilting characteristics are observed in experiments.

  • Microstrip antenna for SAR applications is designed with microwave composite laminates and Nomex honeycomb cores, which becomes an aircraft's structural panel. This study demonstrated fabrication, design procedures and structural and electrical performances of complex antenna system presented. For validating structural rigidity, 3-point bending test is performed, and simulation results for the complex antenna array are compared with measurements for its electrical performance. The results show that this antenna system can be applied in dual polarized synthetic aperture radar and has a good flexural stiffness with comparison of previous sandwich constructions.

  • In this paper, we proposed a multiple meander strip monopole antenna. Using meander strip structure, we could broaden the impedance bandwidth and reduce the antenna height. The proposed antenna has broad bandwidth, from 2.9 ㎓ to 10.85 ㎓, for VSWR $\leq$ 2 and has vertically polarized omnidirectional conical beam radiation pattern, which is suitable for UWB wireless systems.

  • Wireless bio-signal sensing system, which is based on the principle of Doppler radar, can measure a respiration and heart rates with a periodic movement of skin and muscle near the heart. Though the sensing monostatic system using a circulator has been studied, this bistatic system can be improved by using a circular polarized antenna which has a high isolation between transmitter and receiver. In this paper, we measured the bio-signal without the direct contact with the person. The design of each system and experimental results are discussed.

  • This paper presents a high-performance dual-circularly polarized feed employing a dielectric-filled circular waveguide. Novel features are incorporated in the proposed feed, such as a dielectric rod radiator for high gain and good impedance matching; dual quarter-wave chokes for low axial ratio over wide angles and for low back radiation; an integrated septum polarizer; and two end-launch-type coaxial-to-waveguide transitions. The proposed feed shows excellent performance at 5.0 GHz to 5.2 GHz.
