  • Mutagenic characteristics deactivation of 7, 12-dimethylbenz(a)anthraracene was studied in a nonacclimated sandy loam soil at low and neutral pH soil conditions. Soil extracts containing transformation products were separated into three fractions based on HPLC retention time(polarity). Highly polar transformation products of 7, 12-dimethylbenz(a)anthracene demonstrated a negative mutagenic response with the Ames mutagenicity assay, strain TA-100, for both low and neutral pH soils. Moderate and low polar fractions, however, induced mutagenicity for both soil samples with mutagenic ratios similar to those of the parent compound.

  • Volatile flavour components rates from aromatic rices were analyzed by Electronic nose systems. In functional group, polar compounds and aldehyde compounds showed much of volatile flavour components than apolar compounds, sulphur compounds and aminated compounds. The profiles of volatile flavour components rates were markedly differents of sen-sing times, amylose content.

  • (+)-Hernandulcin is a sweet bisabolane-type sesquiterpene first isolated from Lippia dulcis Trev. (Verbenaceae). This oily compound is 1000-1500 times sweeter than sucrose but with poor solubility in water. Microbial transformation was employed to improve its water solubility, and a variety of microorganisms were screened for their ability to convert (+)-hernandulcin to more polar metabolites. Scale-up fermentation with Glomerella cinguiata, a fungal strain, has resulted in the isolation of a more polar metabolite (2).

  • A linear spring model, where the interactions among atoms are assumed to be isotropic and elastic, is employed for the study of non-polar optical phonon scattering in the valence band of alloy semiconductors. The force equations of n atoms are used in the spring model for the consideration of the random distribution of constituent atoms in an alloy semiconductor. When the number of atoms in a unit cell is assumed to be two based on the experimental result, the optical deformation potent is valid for compound semiconductors as well as alloy semiconductors.

  • Acrylonitrile was introduced in the emulsion SBR to increase compatibility between silica and rubber. AN-SBR/silica compounds showed faster vulcanization time and higher delta torque values than SBR 1721/silica compounds because interaction between nitrile group of AN-SBR and silanol group on the silica surface could make hydrogen bond that prevented adsorption of the accelerator on the silica surface, which improved the vulcanization reaction efficiency and enhanced the degree of crosslinking. AN-SBR/silica compound showed higher values in minimum torque than SBR 1721/silica compound during the vulcanization because AN-SBR has higher molecular weight than SBR 1721 in the raw material. When PEG was added to the SBR 1721 and AN-SBR compounds, vulcanization time was faster than SBR 1721 and AN-SBR compounds without PEG because PEG has a large number of ether linkages which show high compatibility with silanol group on the silica surface that prevented the adsorption of the accelerator and the ingredients on the silica surface, which improved the vulcanization reaction efficiency. In the mechanical properties, AN-SBR compounds showed higher modulus values at 100%, 300% than SBR 1721 compounds because interaction between nitrile group of AN-SBR and silanol group on the silica surface enhanced the degree of crosslinking. In the dynamic properties, AN-SBR compounds showed lower tan ${\delta}$ values at $0^{\circ}C$ than SBR 1721 compounds in accordance with the $T_g$ values. AN-SBR compounds showed lower tan ${\delta}$ values at $60^{\circ}C$ than SBR 1721 compounds because interaction between acrylonitrile and silica caused strong filler-rubber interaction that induced low energy dissipation by the filler-filler interaction.

  • The marine sponge Hyrtios sp. collected in the Philippines was extracted and partitioned. The resulting organic layer was purified by C18 reversed-phase column chromatography and HPLC to achieve the separation of nine scalarane-type sesterterpenes, including one new compound with eight known scalarane analogs. The chemical structures of the isolated compounds 1-9 were elucidated by 1D and 2D NMR and MS data analysis. All nine compounds were evaluated for their antibacterial activities against three Gram-positive and three Gram-negative bacteria. The compound 3 exhibited potent antibacterial activities against Bacillus subtilis and Micrococcus luteus. The compounds 7 and 9 displayed considerable activities against Bacillus subtilis and the others had moderate results.

  • One new species of cellular slime molds, Dictyostelium caudabasis sp. nov. Shim et chang, is isolated from soils in the Quercus mongolica forest of Seorak monutain, South Korea. D. caudabasis is charaterized by small sorophores, scarecely phototrophic, irregularly or sparsely branches, capitate-simple or capitate-compound and sometimes obtuse-simple tips, and conical and sometimes clavate bases. Spore are elliptical, $6.52~4.82{\times}3.40~2.83{\mu}m(avg.\;5.72{times}3.17{\mu}m$), L/W index 1.70-1.92(avg. 1.80) without polar grnules.

  • Recently, the electric vehicle market is gradually growing due to strengthened environmental regulations and high oil prices. also, in internal combustion engine vehicles, the sensitivity of Buzz, Squeak, Rattle (BSR) noise is increasing as engine Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH)-related noise is reduced and technology for shielding noise coming from outside is developed. In this study, the stick-slip noise that occurs in Panoramic Curved Display (PCD) of automobile was analyzed for the correlation between the surface energy of polymer plastic and the polar component. For polar polymer materials, Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) and PolyCarbonate-Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (PC-ABS), compound materials were fabricated and evaluated. As a result, when the polar component of the polymer plastic was 3.86 mN/m or higher, stick-slip motion occurred, and as the absolute transition slope increased in the friction behavior over time, the possibility of stick-slip noise increased and the value of the friction coefficient The greater the difference, the greater the strength of the stick-slip noise.

  • Three-armed, star-shaped molecules containing 4-(N,N-diphenyl)amino-4'-nitroazobenzene chromophores were synthesized to study the diffraction behavior after inscribing surface relief gratings. The two molecules differed in terms of their mode of chromophore attachment to the core. In compound 5, they were bound to the core laterally through alkylene spacers, whereas the chromophores were tethered perpendicularly to the core in compound 4. Although 60 wt% of the polar azobenzene chromophores was comprised of large molecules, no aggregation behavior was observed in the absorption spectra of the thin films. The surface relief gratings were elaborated on the surface of the molecular films by the two-beam interference method. The dynamics of grating formation were studied in terms of the diffraction efficiency using two different film samples made up of two star-shaped molecules. The maximum diffraction efficiency of D-$(ENAZ)_3$, compound 4, was measured to be about 30%, which was significantly high. The mode of chromophore attachment affected the dynamic properties of the diffraction gratings.
