  • Recently, IVHS technology attracted public attention according as national IVHS project was initiated by SOC. In advanced countries, specially in USA, Europe, and Japan. IVHS technology was already studied for over ten years as national strategic project. In this paper we describe the concept and development trend of AVCS which is a part of IVHS technology. The important contents in AVCS are automatic collision warning and avoidance system, automatic intelligent cruise control system, automatic vehicle platoon control system, automatic lateral control system, etc.

The Effect of Single-Entry Metering and Platoon Metering on Mainstream under the Same Metering Rate with Pre-timed Metering (정주기식 동일 미터링율 제어에서 차량진입방식에 따른 효과분석)

  • Ramp metering control is the most representative strategy of uninterrupted flow control and management system. Ramp metering is to adjust vehicles entering an expressway in such a way that expressway mainline maintains flow stability by regulating ramp vehicles. The effect of two metering strategies, single-entry metering and platoon metering, on mainstream under the same metering rate with pre-timed metering are analyzed by micro-simulation. Platoon metering shows lower performance than single-entry metering under the same metering rate in terms of speed, density, and delay, causes earlier breakdown than single-entry metering. It indicates that the selection of metering type has critical importance as the flow of mainline is high.

  • The recent study of the delay models have assumed random arrival which has a constant average flow rate throughout the cycle. However, where signals are spaced closely together or form part of progressive system, platoon flows are common and more closely represent reality. In such cases, those results are quite different pattern of estimated delay from that of observed one. In order to solve this problem, the 1985 HCM takes Progression Adjustment Factor (PAF) into account. In the 1985 HCM, however, it has deficiencies in defining and applying it, such as platoon ratio ($R_p$) and platoon arrival type. The Purpose of this study is to investigate theoretically the predictive ability of the individual models concerned through comparing the estimated delay and PAF suggested by NCHRP Report 339, KHCM or USHCM (1985) with the observed obtained by field survey at a signalized intersection.

  • This paper is concerned with the vehicle platooning in the AHS (Automated Highway Systems). For this, a relative navigation system is developed for the vehicles operating as a platoon. The relative navigation system is based on two sensors including GPS and MMWR (Millimeter-Wave Radar) and the federated Kalman Iter processing measurements of them. The architecture of this system requires GPS measurements of a preceding vehicle via communication link. Even if GPS measurements are available, they contain errors which are unacceptably high in vehicle platooning. Therefore, GPS carrier phase is considered. Traffic Flow Management under Ubiquitous Transportation System Environments (유비쿼터스 교통 환경하에서 교통류 관리구상)

  • It is crucial in traffic flow management to maintain productivity and the traffic stability at the same time especially under congested traffic conditions. This issue has not been explicitly addressed under the intelligent transportation system environments. However, the ubiquitous transportation system environments make it possible to collect the data for each vehicle's position and velocity and to perform more sophisticated traffic flow management at individual vehicle or platoon level through V2V and V2I communications. In this paper, a preventive traffic flow management scheme is proposed, in which the objective is to maintain traffic flow stability while the productivity of the system is not decreased. The management scheme is proposed based on Greenshield's model because it is simple and easy to handle. It is considered that further research should be performed to evaluate the various traffic flow models.

  • The ubiquitous transportation system environments make it possible to collect each vehicle's position and velocity data and to perform more sophisticated traffic flow management at individual vehicle or platoon level through V2V and V2I communication. It is necessary to develop a new traffic management paradigm to take advantage of the ubiquitous transportation system environments. This paper proposed a preventive congestion management algorithm for uninterrupted flow, whose goal is to minimize the incident potential and maximize the productivity by maintaining traffic flow stability. The algorithm includes the following steps: Processing the raw data to produce the 3-dimension speed/flow/density profile and to produce the platoon profile and the shock wave profile, Determining the traffic state and the flow stability based on the processed data, Deciding the desirable speed the according the traffic flow state, and finally Providing the desirable speed information. It remains as further work to perform field experiments and calibrate the algorithm parameters.

  • There are many realistic system necessities on the huge size of rule matrices with any Fuzzy Logical Inferences. This paper indicates the experimental design policy on the PCS design for the Platoon and AOS for the social application with some identical resemblances in between them so that we could use a design for two different usages feasibly.

  • This paper describes an expert system for soldiers psychology diagnosis. In the field warfare, platoon leaders or company commanders have to diagnose his soldier's condition correctly. The expert systems, a field of artificial intelligence, can be appropriate approach for ill-structured paradigm. This use an UNIK system. This UNIK system is composed of UNIK-FRAME, UNIK-BWD, UNIK-WBI, UNIK-INDUCE and UNIK-Interface. Especially, UNIK-WBI system is very useful to display soldiers psychology diagnosis and so easy to use it. Any leader or commander can easily do this. This paper data is based on DSMIV. Through This expert system, combat power can be kept and accidents be protected.

  • In this paper is adopted the One-Ray Rician channel model for AVHS's platoon to short-range IVC (Inter-Vehicle Communication System) and analyzed packet probability characteristics in 60㎓ millimeter wave with very powerful to MP(multipath-wave). Both Convolution coding and MRC diversity is adopted that Multimedia service is satisfied following user's desire increase in the next and analyzed packet probability characteristics of DS-CDMA/QPSK systems.

Development of the Program for Reconnaissance and Exploratory Drones based on Open Source (오픈 소스 기반의 정찰 및 탐색용 드론 프로그램 개발)

  • With the recent increase in the development of military drones, they are adopted and used as the combat system of battalion level or higher. However, it is difficult to use drones that can be used in battles below the platoon level due to the current conditions for the formation of units in the Korean military. In this paper, therefore, we developed a program drones equipped with a thermal imaging camera and LiDAR sensor for reconnaissance and exploration that can be applied in battles below the platoon level. Using these drones, we studied the possibility and feasibility of drones for small-scale combats that can find hidden enemies, search for an appropriate detour through image processing and conduct reconnaissance and search for battlefields, hiding and cover-up through image processing. In addition to the purpose of using the proposed drone to search for an enemies lying in ambush in the battlefield, it can be used as a function to check the optimal movement path when a combat unit is moving, or as a function to check the optimal place for cover-up or hiding. In particular, it is possible to check another route other than the route recommended by the program because the features of the terrain can be checked from various viewpoints through 3D modeling. We verified the possiblity of flying by designing and assembling in a form of adding LiDAR and thermal imaging camera module to a drone assembled based on racing drone parts, which are open source hardware, and developed autonomous flight and search functions which can be used even by non-professional drone operators based on open source software, and then installed them to verify their feasibility.
