Shear wall is commonly used as a lateral force resisting system of concrete mid-rise and high-rise buildings, but it brings challenges in providing relatively large space throughout the building height. For this reason, the structure system where the upper structure with bearing, non-bearing and/or shear walls that sits on top of a transfer plate system supported by widely spaced columns at the lower stories is preferred in some regions, particularly in low to moderate seismic regions in Asia. A thick reinforced concrete (RC) plate has often been used as a transfer system, along with RC transfer girders; however, the RC plate becomes very thick for tall buildings. Applying the post-tensioning (PT) technique to RC plates can effectively reduce the thickness and reinforcement as an economical design method. Currently, a simplified model is used for numerical modeling of PT transfer plate, which does not consider the interaction of the plate and the upper structure. To observe the actual behavior of PT transfer plate under seismic loads, it is necessary to model whole parts of the structure and tendons to precisely include the interaction and the secondary effect of PT tendons in the results. This research evaluated the seismic behavior of shear wall-type residential buildings with PT transfer plates for the condition that PT tendons are included or excluded in the modeling. Three-dimensional finite element models were developed, which includes prestressing tendon elements, and response spectrum analyses were carried out to evaluate seismic forces. Two buildings with flat-shape and L-shape plans were considered, and design forces of shear walls and transfer columns for a system with and without PT tendons were compared. The results showed that, in some cases, excluding PT tendons from the model leads to an unrealistic estimation of the demands for shear walls sit on transfer plate and transfer columns due to excluding the secondary effect of PT tendons. Based on the results, generally, the secondary effect reduces shear force demand and axial-flexural demands of transfer columns but increases the shear force demand of shear walls. The results of this study suggested that, in addition to the effect of PT on the resistance of transfer plate, it is necessary to include PT tendons in the modeling to consider its effect on force demand.
The large deflection theory of the Mindlin plate and Galerkin's method are employed to examine the static responses of a plate produced by the weight of the plate, and the dynamic responses of the plate caused by the coupling effect of these static responses with a set of moving forces. Results obtained by the large deflection theory are compared with those by the small deflection theory. The results indicate that the effect of weight of the plate increases the modal frequencies of the structure. The deviations of dynamic transverse deflection and of dynamic bending moment produced by a moving concentrated force between the two theories are significant for a thin plate with a large area. Both dynamic transverse deflection and dynamic bending moment obtained by the Mindlin plate theory are greater than those by the classical plate.
The plate-type fuel assembly adopted in nuclear research reactor suffers from complicated effect induced by non-uniform irradiation, which might affect stress conditions, mechanical behaviors and thermal-hydraulic performance of the fuel assembly. This paper is the Part II work of a two-part study devoted to analyzing the complex unique mechanical deformation and thermal-hydraulic characteristics for the typical plate-type fuel assembly under irradiation effect, which is on the basis of developed and verified numerical thermal-fluid-structure coupling methodology under irradiation in Part I of this work. The mechanical deformation, thermal-hydraulic performance and Mises stress have been analyzed for the typical plate-type fuel assembly consisting of support plates under non-uniform irradiation. It was interesting to observe that: the plate-type fuel assembly including the fuel plates and support plates tended to bend towards the location with maximum fission rate; the hot spots in the fuel foil appeared at the location with maximum thickness increment; the maximum Mises stress of fuel foil was located at the adjacent location with the maximum plate thickness increment et al.

In recent years, several studies of the practical application of active sound and vibration control have been developed to plate to plate response with various boundary conditions. This study considers vibration and sound radiation for the clamped rectangular plate. The radiation of a sound from rectangular plate can be calculated that the velocity of a vibrating plate is analyzed. The vibration formulation is based on a variation method for the vibration of the plate, and assumes no damping, no fluid loading of the structure. And the plate is exited by harmonic point force. The radiation of sound from plate is analyzed in the far field, and is calculated from the Rayleigh integral. The prediction results of vibration and sound level have proved with FEM or BEM.

Modal Analysis is the process of characterizing the dynamic properties of an elastic structure by identifying its modes of vibration. A mode of vibration is a global property of an elastic structure. That is, a mode has a specific natural frequency and damping factor which can be identified from response data at practically any point on a structure, and it has a characteristic mode shape which identifies the mode spatially over the entire structure. Modal testing is able to be performed on structural and mechanical structure in an effort to learn more about their elastic behavior. Once the dynamic properties of a structure are known its behavior can be predicted and therefore controlled or corrected. Resonant frequencies, damping factors and mode shape data can be used directly by a mechanical designer to pin point weak spots in a structure design, or this data can also be used to confirm or synthesize equations of motion for the elastic structure. These differential equations can be used to simulate structural response to know input forces and to examine the effects of pertubations in the distributed mass, stiffness and damping properties of the structure in more detail. In this paper the measurement of transfer functions in digital form, and the application of digital parameter identification techniques to identify modal parameters from the measured transfer function data are discussed. It is first shown that the transfer matrix, which is a complete dynamic model of an elastic plate structure can be written in terms of the structural modes of vibration. This special mathematical form allows one to identify the complete dynamics of the structure from a much reduced set of test data, and is the essence of the modal approach to identifying the dynamics of a structure. Finally, the application of transfer function models and identification techniques for obtaining modal parameters from the transfer function data are discussed. Characteristics on vibration response of elastic plate structure obtained from the dynamic analysis by Finite Element Method are compared with results of modal analysis.

In this study, the assumed mode method using characteristic polynomials of Timoshenko beam is applied to the free vibration analysis for the stiffened plate of ship tank side in contact with water. The hydro-elastic effect of the fluid-structure interaction is considered by fluid velocity potential, derived from boundary conditions for fluid and structure, and utilized in the calculation of added mass matrix using assumed modes. To verify the validity and effectiveness of the presented method, free vibration analysis for the stiffened plates in contact with finite and infinite fluids have been carried out and its results were compared with those obtained by a general purpose FEA software.
Recently, as the industrial structure tends to become large, the thickness of structural plate becomes thicker. Therefore, the thicker the plate of welded structure is, the larger the shape of welded joint. The effect of large heat input makes large heat affected zone(HAZ). These bring to complict welding residual stress and to weaken material, which may cause extremely harm to the safety of structures. Nevertheless, welding is design is regulated by the KS, JIS or standard in the resister of shipping such as KR, ABS or LR. However, these rules are based on rather experimental than theoretical. In this study, the computer program of heat conduction, considering un-steady state and quasi-steady state, is developed for optimizing(minimizing) a shape of welded joint. The characteristics of heat on the welded joints with various shapes are clarified by the results of the analyses.

We have designed high performance prism light-guide plate (LGP) in 17 inch TFT-LCD. In test result to embody high brightness BLU in case of LGP of base and upper surface with 17 inch, thickness 8mm adding prism construct. Using optical simulation, we forecast the brightness and uniformity in LGP with prism structure. And we adopted novel injection mold method and Nickel stamper to make actual evolution sample. Novel injection mold process has steady heating time zone in heat cycle time of injection mold process. For this novel heat cycle control, we achieved above 90[%] height prism structure as our design. It is superior brightness improvement than previous that of printing form about some 20[%] and in this course to embody actual material it succeeded prism LGP production by 17 inch injection form process.

The soil-structure interactions are caused by the point sources of explosions, deriving piles, compaction of foundations and excavations those are frequently arose in the construction sites. Thus the analysis of soil-structure interactions is one of the most important subjects in the fields of dynamic analysis and vibration control. From this viewpoint, the aim of this study is to collect the basic data for designing foundation structures throughout understanding the dynamic structural behavior, which is embodied by the dynamic analysis of soil-structure systems. In this study, the dynamic analyses of stiffened thick plates subjected to in-plane stress on elastic foundations are carried out. The foundation is modeled as Pasternak foundation that includes the continuity effect of foundations. Also both the Mindlin plate theory and Timoshenko beam-column theory are used for analyzing the thick plates and beams, respectively.
In general, a structure that is composed with plates has lower bending strength and stiffness than solid structure. To solve this problem, reinforced structures have been used. And we need rules to choose best shape for each using conditions. In this paper, simple equation that expresses equivalent thickness with respect to parameters by substituting results from Finite Element Analysis to normal plate displacement equation was derived.
