Symptoms on 4 varieties of watermelons inoculated with watermelon mosaic potyvirus II isolated from watermelon (WMV-W) were severe mosaic and leaf malformation while those inoculated with cucumber green mottle mosaic tobamovirus from watermelon (CGMMV-W) were mild mosaic and chlorotic spots. Inoculation of the mixture of WMV-W and CGMMV-W produced extremely severe mosaic along with necrotic spots and general necrosis. Doubly infected plants were also stunted. Cells infected with WMV-W or CGMMV-W alone exhibited the intrinsically ultra-structural properties of each virus infection. WMV-W induced potyvirus-characteristic cylindrical inclusions in the cytosol. Virus particles were orderly aligned along the tonoplasts. CGMMV-W induced tobamovirus-characteristic stacked crystalline arrays of virus particles in the cytosol. Cells infected doubly with WMV-W and CGMMV-W contained striking cytopathic effects that were not present in single infection of each virus. The unique ring structure, nonagon, was that a single potyvirus particle was surrounded by 9 CGMMV-W tobamovirus particles.
To overcome the problem of the yield reduction due to the viral satellite mediated protection, a culture mix of three nitrogen-fixing bacteria species of the genus Azospirillum (A. brasilienses N040, A. brasilienses SP7, and A. lipoferum MRB16), and one strain of cyanobacteria (Anabena oryzae Fritsch) were utilized as biofertilizer mixture in both greenhouse and field experiments. When protected plants were treated with biofertilizer mixtures, the fruit yield of biofertilized plants increased by 48% and 40% in a greenhouse and field experiment, respectively, compared to untreated plants inoculated with the protective viral strain alone. Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE) analysis of total nucleic acid (TNA) extracts revealed that biofertilization did not affect the accumulation of the viral satellite RNA (CARNA 5) that is required for plant protection against other destructive viral strains of CMV. The yield increment was a good compensation for the yield loss caused by the use of the protective viral strain associated with CARNA 5.

Several benefits provided by white clover (Tnifoliurn repens L.) can be elevated as relationship between its morphological and physiological characteristics is clarified. The experiment was done to analyze the relationship between them in the clover with different leaf size. Individual plants of Osceola (large leaf), Grasslands Huia (medium leaf) and Aberystwyth S184 (small leaf) were grown in 15m plastic pot containing a 1:2:1 soil:sand:Promix mixture for 55 days, and then clipped to remove all fully expanded leaves every 7, 14 or 28 days. To measure the cultivar response, plants were sampled for morphological and physiological parameters on the date (0) after final harvest and 1, 3, 7, 14 and 28 days after the final harvest and then their relationship was analyzed. Osceola had greater leaf area per trifoliolate but less no. of leaves per plant to result in similar total leaf area per plant of all cltivars. Stolon length and no. of growing tips per plant declined with smaller leaf size although the result in biomass was reverse. Stolon of all cultivars showed the greatest fluctuation in total nonstructud carbohydrate during the regrowing period but nitrogen concentrations of all their fractions and dinitrogen fixation did similar patterns. Stolon and root of Osceola, moreover, were the highest ones. Biomass, stolon length and total leaf area per plant of all cultivars were positively correlated to carbohydrate concentration of all frauions and dinitrogen fixation. In Osceola relationship between nitrogen concentration of stolon and the characters showed in Osceola was positively done.

The objective of this study was to analyze an availability of green roof soil based on the bottom ash soil and compost using sludge derived from food factory as comparing and analysing the growth of native plants. Analysing the physical properties and chemical resistance of 12 different type mixing soils which is mainly used in green roof, selected 4 types of soil, experiments were conducted to compare plant growth. The growth status of the plant showed the most superior of the soil 13(control), next soil 9(Pearlite : Bottom Ash : Compost = 20 : 60 : 20) and soil 10(Pearlite : Zeolite : Compost = 60 : 20 : 20) This result showed that native plants grow well in the soil based on the bottom ash and compost using sludge derived from food factory, and this soil type is determined that is available the green roof soil.
The long wave infrared which is ranged to 4~1, 000 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ is a kind of electromagnetic wave, and the wave is being absorbed by higher plant easily. The absorbed wave in the plant promotes the metabolism of plant cell by way of resonance with the water molecules of plant cell. This experiment was carried out to determine the effect of long wave infrared radiation ceramic on growth of rice seedling, and to make the optimum mixture rate of ceramic powder when ceramics was mixed with bed soil at 4, 8, 12, 16% levels for machine transplanting. The results of this study indicate that the growth of the seedling significantly higher in the treatment sites than that of control sites. However, there was no significant differences in dry matter weight between the treatment and control sites. At the 9.6% mixing ratio, the highest growth of rice seedling was found.

In this paper, we demonstrate the ability of Arabidopsis thaliana to detect different mixtures of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted by the common indoor fungus, Aspergillus versicolor, and demonstrate the potential usage of the plant as a bioindicator to monitor fungal VOCs in indoor air. We evaluated the volatile production of Aspergillus versicolor strains SRRC 108 (NRRL 3449) and SRRC 2559 (ATCC 32662) grown on nutrient rich fungal medium, and grown under conditions to mimic the substrate encountered in the built environment where fungi would typically grow indoors (moist wallboard and ceiling tiles). Using headspace solid phase microextraction/gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, we analyzed VOC profiles of the two strains. The most abundant compound produced by both strains on all three media was 1-octen-3-ol. Strain SRRC 2559 made several terpenes not detected from strain SRRC 108. Using a split-plate bioassay, we grew Arabidopsis thaliana in a shared atmosphere with VOCs from the two strains of Aspergillus versicolor grown on yeast extract sucrose medium. The VOCs emitted by SRRC 2559 had an adverse impact on seed germination and plant growth. Chemical standards of individual VOCs from the Aspergillus versicolor mixture (2-methyl-1-butanol, 3-methyl-1-butanol, 1-octen-3-ol, limonene, and ${\beta}-farnesene$), and ${\beta}-caryophyllene$ were tested one by one in seed germination and vegetative plant growth assays. The most inhibitory compound to both seed germination and plant growth was 1-octen-3-ol. Our data suggest that Arabidopsis is a useful model for monitoring indoor air quality as it is sensitive to naturally emitted fungal volatile mixtures as well as to chemical standards of individual compounds, and it exhibits relatively quick concentration- and duration-dependent responses.
We developed a reassortant RNA virus vector derived from $Cucumber$$mosaic$$virus$ (CMV), which has advantages of very wide host range and can efficiently induce gene silencing in a few model plants. Certain CMV isolates, however, show limited host ranges presumably because they naturally co-evolved with their own hosts. We used a reassortant comprised of two strains of CMV, Y-CMV and Gn-CMV, to broaden the host range and to develop a virus vector for virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS). Gn-CMV could infect chili pepper and tomato more efficiently than Y-CMV. Gn-CMV RNA1, 3 and Y-CMV RNA2-A1 vector were newly reconstructed, and the transcript mixture of RNA1 and 3 genomes of Gn-CMV and RNA2 genome of Y-CMV RNA2 containing portions of the endogenous phytoene desaturase (PDS) gene (CMV2A1::PDSs) was inoculated onto chili pepper (cv. Chung-yang), tomato (cvs. Bloody butcher, Tigerella, Silvery fir tree, and Czech bush) and $Nicotiana$$benthamiana$. All the tested plants infected by the reassortant CMV vector showed typical photo-bleaching phenotypes and reduced expression levels of $PDS$ mRNA. These results suggest that the reassortant CMV vector would be a useful tool for the rapid induction of the RNA silencing of endogenous genes in chili pepper and tomato plants.

This study was conducted to find out the effects of hydroseeding material and seed mixture on the revegetation of rock cut-slopes by PEC4 (Polymer-Ecology-Control) Hydroseeding Measures. PEC4 hydroseeding material was applied to four cut-slopes using hydroseeding measures from April to August, 1999, and the field survey was carried out by monthly. PEC4 material consisted of bark compost and organic soil amendments. This material has high content of organic matter and high level of water holding capacity. PEC4 hydroseeding material shows low level of soil hardness, so it gives to good condition for seed germinating and plant growing in early stage. PEC4 material attached at rock cut-slopes by two types of adhesive agent was not eroded by rainfall. The plant coverage and number of plant species were affected by mixing ratio of seeds and seeding timing. From the viewpoint of plant establishment, the optimal hydroseeding timing of mixed seeds for plant growth seems to be in May. Most of the plant seeds were germinated well and they covered rock cut-slopes so quickly and effectively. Plant importance value of Silene armeria and Platycodon grandiflorum. were higher than any other seeded-native species in the competition between native species and exotic species, so they have enough possibility to be used for slope revegetation works. Thus it leads to conclusion that the revegetation method used in this experiment was a very effective method for plant establishment on rock cut-slopes.
Powdery and downy mildews caused by Sphaerotheca fusca and Pseudoperonospora cubensis are the most common and serious diseases of cucumber worldwide. In spite of the introduction of highly effective systemic fungicides, control of these diseases remains elusive. Hence, this study aimed to develop an alternative method to chemicals in controlling the diseases by using different types of cooking oil. Egg yolk, which contains a natural emulsifier, lecithin, was selected as a surfactant to emulsify the oils. Among the different cooking oils used, soybean, canola (rape seed), safflower, sunflower, olive, and corn oils showed over 95% control values against powdery mildew of cucumber in a greenhouse test. In particular, 0.3% canola oil emulsified with 0.08% yolk (1 yolk and 60 ml canola in 20 l spray) was found to be the most effective. The treatment resulted in 98.9% and 96.3% control efficacies on powdery and downy mildews, respectively, of cucumber in the field. Canola oil exhibited direct and systemic effect, wherein powdery mildew of cucumber was suppressed only on treated leaves but not on non-treated leaves in a plant, while mycelia and conidia of the pathogen were severely distorted or destroyed by the treatment. The prospect of using the canola oil and yolk mixture as a natural fungicide is highly promising because of its effectiveness, availability, low cost, simple preparation, and safety to humans and the environment. The use of the canola oil and yolk mixture is expected to be an effective fungicide for use in organic farming and home gardening.
Warm-mix asphalt(WMA) technology has been developed to allow asphalt mixtures to be produced and compacted at a significantly lower temperature. The WMA technology was identified as one of means to lower emissions for $CO_2$ and has been spread so quickly in the world. Recently, two innovative WMA additives has been developed to reduce mixing and paving temperatures applied in asphalt paving process in Korea. Since the first public demonstration project in 2008, many WMA projects have successfully been constructed in national highways. In 2010, the WMA field trial was conducted on new national highway construction under Dae-Jeon Regional Construction Management Administration. The two different WMA loose mixtures(WMA and WMA-P) and a HMA mixture were collected at the asphalt plant to evaluate their mechanical performance in the laboratory. The Third-scale Model Mobile Loading Simulator(MMLS3) was adopted to evaluate rutting resistance and moisture damage under different traffic and environmental conditions. In this study, plant-produced WMA mixtures using two WMA additives along with the conventional hot mix asphalt(HMA) mixtures were evaluated with respect to their rutting resistance and moisture susceptibility using MMLS3. Based on the limited laboratory test results, plant-produced WMA mixtures are superior to HMA mixtures in rutting resistance and the moisture susceptibility. The WMA additive was effective for producing and compacting the mixture at $30^{\circ}C$ lower than the temperature for the HMA mixture.
