  • In this paper, we develop a simple method for computing the stabilizer subgroup of a subgroup of $$D(g)={{\alpha}{\in}\mathbb{F}_q|there\;is\;a\;{\beta}{\in}{\mathbb{F}}^x_q\;such\;that\;{\beta}^n=g(\alpha)}$$ in $PSL_2(\mathbb{F}_q)$, where q is a large odd prime power, n is a positive integer dividing q-1, and $g(x){\in}\mathbb{F}_q[x]$. As an application, we construct new infinite families of 3-designs (cf. Examples 3.4 and 3.5).

  • The paper is devoted to the description of family of scalene triangles for which the triangle formed by the intersection points of bisectors with opposite sides is isosceles. We call them Sharygin triangles. It turns out that they are parametrized by an open subset of an elliptic curve. Also we prove that there are infinitely many non-similar integer Sharygin triangles.

  • Electroplating is a widely used surface treatment method in the manufacturing process of electronic parts and uniformity of the electrodeposition thickness is very crucial for these applications. Since many variables including fluid flow influence the uniformity of the film, it is difficult to conduct efficient research only by experiments. So many studies using simulation have been carried out. However, the most popular simulation technique, which calculates secondary current distribution, has a limitation on the considering the effects of fluid flow on the deposition behavior. And modified method, which is calculating a tertiary current distribution, is limited to a two-dimensional study of simple shapes because of the massive computational load. In the present study, we propose a new electroplating simulation method that can be applied to complex shapes considering the effect of flow. This new model calculates the electroplating process with three steps. First, the thickness of boundary layers on the surface of the cathode plane and velocity magnitudes at the positions are calculated from the simulation of fluid flow. Next, polarization curves of different velocities are obtained by calculations or experiments. Finally, both results are incorporated into the electroplating simulation program as boundary conditions at the cathode plane. The results of the model showed good agreements with the experimental results, and the effects of fluid flow of electrolytes on the uniformity of deposition thickness was quantitatively predicted.

  • In this paper, we aim to draw up an alternative instruction scheme by designing a web based instruction model on mathematics. Some learning materials are developed according to the scheme, and its educational effects are examined when it is committed to through regular curriculum. The study is composed of three major parts; setting of the theoretical foundation on cultivating Web based educational materials, design and composition of Web based teaching-learning model, and its experiments in the regular class. First of all, we are concerned with the core principles on WBI including the learning theories, developing learner oriented instruction model, design as well as build-up process for education materials, and strategy in instruction. Next, we propose an alternative instruction model for mathematics, in which programs to embody mathematics education and instruction on the Web are constructed, on the while, the study is proceeded through the Web Site. Finally, we design and produce a WBI instruction model on the subject of the plane quadratic curves. This model is examined in the regular class to estimate its educational effects compared with traditional teaching standpoints. Concomitantly, we explore essential elements and the direction of future growth associated with the Web oriented education.

  • In this study, we investigate the effect of Al/N source ratios and growth rates on the growth and structural properties of AlN films on c-plane sapphires by plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy. Both growth rates and Al/N ratios affect crystal qualities of AlN films. The full width at half maximum (FWHM) values of ($10{\bar{1}}5$) X-ray rocking curves (XRCs) change from 0.22 to $0.31^{\circ}$ with changing of the Al/N ratios, but the curves of (0002) XRCs change from 0.04 to $0.45^{\circ}$ with changing of the Al/N ratios. This means that structural deformation due to dislocations is slightly affected by the Al/N ratio in the ($10{\bar{1}}5$) XRCs but affected strongly for the (0002) XRCs. From the viewpoint of growth rate, the AlN films with high growth rate (HGR) show better crystal quality than the low growth rate (LGR) films overall, as shown by the FWHM values of the (0002) and ($10{\bar{1}}5$) XRCs. Based on cross-sectional transmission electron microscope observation, the HGR sample with an Al/N ratio of 3.1 shows more edge dislocations than there are screw and mixed dislocations in the LGR sample with Al/N ratio of 3.5.

  • This paper explains the basic theory and a new development of for the residual strength prediction program of the asymmetrically damaged ships, being capable of searching moment-curvature relations considering neutral axis mobility. It is noted that moment plane and neutral axis plane should be separately defined for asymmetric sections. The validity of the new program is verified by comparing moment-curvature curves of 1/3 scaled frigate model where the results from new algorithm well coincide with experimental and nonlinear FEA results for intact condition and with nonlinear FEA results for damaged condition. Applicability of new algorithm is also verified by applying VLCC model to the newly developed program. It is proved that reduction of residual strengths is visually presented using the new algorithm when damage specifications of ABS, DNV and IMO are applied. It is concluded that the new algorithm shows very good performance to produce moment-curvature relations with neutral axis mobility on the asymmetrically damaged ships. It is expected that the new program based on the developed algorithm can largely reduce design period of FE modeling and increase user conveniences.

  • We suggest a new method to determine the off-alignment error of the composite film, together with in-plane($R_{in}$) and out-of-plane retardation($R_{th}$) of the compensation film, simultaneously. The composite film consists of a polarizing film and a compensation film for improvement of viewing angle of a liquid crystal display. We regarded the compensation film as o-plate with its optic axis along an arbitrary direction. By using an extended Jones matrix method, the polarization characteristics of the composite film are examined. The calculated Fourier constants, ($\alpha$, $\beta$) curves of the composite film as the azimuth angle is varied at the incident angles of $0^{\circ}$ and $50^{\circ}$, respectively, are used to determine the axis misalignment, the tilt angle and the azimuth angle of the compensation film by adopting the linear regressional analysis technique. Since this method can be applied for the inspection of the composite film even after laminating the polarizing film and the compensation film, it will be useful for simplifying the manufacturing process and reducing the production cost of liquid crystal display panels.

  • Being a lightweight material, magnesium is increasingly employed in automotive parts. However, because of its hexagonal closed-packed (HCP) crystal structure, in which only the basal plane can move, the magnesium alloy sheets show low ductility and formability at room temperature. Thus the press forming of magnesium alloy sheets has been performed at elevated temperature within range of $200^{\circ}C{\sim}250^{\circ}C$. However, we confirmed that using rotational incremental forming magnesium alloy sheets were formed without any heating at previous study. In this study, at the forming of square cup using rotational incremental sheet forming, the strain distributions were obtained and it was compared with forming limit curve at neck (FLCN). Also, forming limit curves at fracture (FLCF) of magnesium alloy sheets were obtained at elevated temperature and it was compared with the strain distribution of square cup of magnesium alloy sheet. In this study, we confirmed that conventional forming limit curves can not predict rotational incremental forming.

  • Although performance based assessment procedures are mainly developed for reinforced concrete and steel buildings, URM (Unreinforced Masonry) buildings occupy significant portion of buildings in earthquake prone areas of the world as well as in IRAN. Variability of material properties, non-engineered nature of the construction and difficulties in structural analysis of masonry walls make analysis of URM buildings challenging. Despite sophisticated finite element models satisfy the modeling requirements, extensive experimental data for definition of material behavior and high computational resources are needed. Recently, nonlinear equivalent frame models which are developed assigning lumped plastic hinges to isotropic and homogenous equivalent frame elements are used for nonlinear modeling of URM buildings. The equivalent frame models are not novel for the analysis of masonry structures, but the actual potentialities have not yet been completely studied, particularly for non-linear applications. In the present paper an effective tool for the non-linear static analysis of 2D masonry walls is presented. The work presented in this study is about performance assessment of unreinforced brick masonry buildings through nonlinear equivalent frame modeling technique. Reliability of the proposed models is tested with a reversed cyclic experiment conducted on a full scale, two-story URM building at the University of Pavia. The pushover curves were found to provide good agreement with the experimental backbone curves. Furthermore, the results of analysis show that EFM (Equivalent Frame Model) with Dolce RO (rigid offset zone) and shell element have good agreement with finite element software and experimental results.

  • Z-section composite stringers with various lengths and flange-widths are tested in axial compression for the validation of a finite element algorithm to calculate the buckling and crippling stresses of composite laminated stringers. The stacking sequence considered is $[{\pm}45/0/90]s$. Strain gages are attached to each specimen, and deflection and end-shortening are obtained by two LVDTs. The buckling load is determined from the load vs. strain response, load vs. end-shortening curves, and load vs. out-of-plane deflection curves. The ultimate stress after local buckling is used as the crippling stress. Comparison between finite element and experimental results shows good agreement in the local buckling and crippling stresses.
