The dispersion of carbon nanofiber (CNF) was carried out by solution blending, mechanical mixing, and sonication. CNFs at levels of 5-50% fiber weight content were mixed with polypropylene (PP) powder, and then were melt-mixed using a twin-screw extruder. For the further alignment of fibers, extruded rods were stacked uni-directionally in the mold cavity for the compression molding. For the evaluation of mechanical properties of nanocomposites, tension, in-plane shear, and flexural tests were conducted. CNF/PP composites clearly showed reinforcing effect in the longitudinal direction. The tensile modulus and strength have improved by 100% and 40%, respectively for 50 % fiber weight content, and the flexural modulus and strength have increased by 120% and 25%, respectively for the same fiber weight content. The shear modulus showed 65% increase, but the strength dropped sharply by 40%. However, the property enhancement was not significant due to the poor adhesion between fiber and matrix. In the transverse direction, the tensile, flexural, and shear strength decreased as more fibers were added.
The mechanical behavior of small-sized materials has been investigated for many industrial applications, including MEMS and semiconductors. It is challenging to obtain accurate mechanical properties measurements for thin films due to several technical difficulties, including measurement of strain, specimen alignment, and fabrication. In this work, we used the micro-tensile testing unit with the real-time DIC (Digital Image Correlation) strain measurement system. This system has advantages of real time strain monitoring up to 50 nm resolution during the micro-tensile test, and ability to measure the young's modulus and Poisson's ratio at the same time. The mechanical properties of SCS (Single Crystal Silicon) are measured by uniaxial tension test from freestanding SCS which are $2.5{\mu}m$ thick, $200-500{\mu}m$ wide specimens on the (100) plane. Young's modulus, Poisson's ratio and tensile strength in the <110> direction are measured by micro-tensile testing system.
Thin film magnet was fabricated by radio frequency magnetron sputtering using $Nd_13/(Fe.Co)_{70}B_{17}$ alloy target and magnetic properties were investigated according to sputtering conditions from the metallurgical point of view. we could obtain the best preferred orientation of $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ phase at substrate temperatures between $450^{\circ}C$ and $460^{\circ}C$ with the input power 150W, and thin films had the anisotropic magnetic properties. But, as the thickness of thin film increased, the c-axis orientation gradually tended to be disordered and magnetic properties also become isotropic. Just like Nd-Fe-B meltspun ribbon, the microstructure of thin film magnet was consisted of very find cell shaped $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ phase and the second phase along grain boundary. While, domain structure showed maze patterns whose magnetic easy axis was was perpendicular to film plane of thin film. It was concluded from these results that the perpendicualr anisotropy in magnetization was attributed to the perpendicular alignment of very find $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ grains in thin film.
As the physical properties of nematic liquid crystals vary with respect to temperature, the performances of liquid crystal displays (LCDs) are highly dependent on temperature. Additionally, it is well known that the electro-optic characteristics of LCDs, such as transmittance and threshold voltage, also rely on the LCD switching modes. The temperature dependence of the electro-optic characteristics of the wide-viewing-angle LCD modes, such as in-plane switching (IPS), multidomain vertical alignment by patterned electrode (PVA), and fringe-field switching (FFS), have been studied, and the results showed that the FFS mode has lower temperature dependence compared to the IPS and PVA modes. Since the liquid crystal (LC) reorients in different ways in each mode, this result is associated with the temperature dependence of LC's bend and twist elastic constants, and also with the position of the main reorientation, either in the middle or on the surface of the LC layer.
The aligning between the punch and die governs no only the burr formation characteristics but also the life time of the punch and die in the sheet metal blanking process. There are many ways to adjust the two elements in the general punching systems but in the case of micro punch system, the punch size is reduced to a few tenth of micrometer range and the general aligning methods are almost impossible to apply. The image processing is the most widely used method in micro punch aligning, but in order to apply the method, it needs quite a large space for visionary system to approach the punch-die aligning zone. In this paper, the new punch-die aligning method with using the total capacitance between the punch and die hole is proposed. In this method, the tip surface of the punch tool locates at the same plane of the die surface and the capacitance variation between the two elements are measured. When the center of the two elements are coincided, the capacitance is minimized, but when the align Is changed to any direction, the capacitance between the two elements increase. In order to verify the feasibility of this method, the aligning and punching tests was performed.
An unobstructed off-axis two-mirror system is presented in this paper. First a suitable initial configuration is established based on third-order aberration theory. In order to achieve a wide field of view (FOV) with high image quality , the diffractive mirror is adopted in the two-mirror system to increase the optimization freedom and the aberration relationship between diffractive phase coefficients and Zernike coefficients is derived. Furthermore, a complete comparison design example with a focal length of 1200 mm, F-number of 12, and FOV of 40° × 2° is given to verify the aberration correction ability of the diffractive mirror. The system average wavefront error is 0.007 λ (λ=0.6328 μm) developed from 0.061 λ when the system didn’t adopt the diffractive mirror. In this system the phase modulation function of the diffractive mirror is established as an even function of x, so we could obtain a symmetrical imaging quality about the tangential plane, and the symmetric aberration performance also brings considerable convenience to alignment and testing for the system.

Color tracking behavior of in the fringe-field switching (FFS) mode using a liquid crystal with positive dielectric anisotropy has been studied. In the in-plane switching and vertical alignment devices, color chromaticity at normal direction changes from bluish to yellowish white linearly with increasing grey levels from dark to white state. Interestingly, abnormal behavior in color tracking is observed in FFS devices using a liquid crystal with positive dielectric anisotropy, that is, it changes from bluish to yellowish up to a certain middle grey level but turns over to bluish white with further increasing from a grey level to a fully white state. In this paper, we analyze this abnormal effect from the calculated and experimental results.
(Sm/Y)$_{1.8}$B $a_{2.4}$C $u_{3.4}$$O_{7-x}$ [(Sm/Y)1.8] high $T_{c}$ superconductors were directionally grown by Rod-type Seed Melt Growth(RSMG) process in air atmosphere. The sintered polycrystalline N $d_{1.8}$B $a_{2.4}$C $u_{3.4}$$O_{7-x}$(Nd1.8) of rod-type seed crystal grown by extrusion mold process were used for achieving the ab-plane alignment haying large grains perpendicular to the center of (Sm/Y)1.8 samples. The observations using TEM micrographs of the melt-textured (Sm/Y)1.8 samples revealed that the nonsuperconducting (Sm/Y)211 inclusions are uniformly distributed in the superconducting (Sm/Y)123 matrix. The microstructure and superconducting properties were investigated by XRD, TEM and SQUID magnetometer. The RSMG (Sm/Y)1.8 samples showed an onset $T_{c}$$\geq$ 90 K and sharp superconducting transition.nsition.ion.nsition.

The Milky Way did not form in isolation, but is the product of a complex evolution of generations of mergers, collapses, star formation, supernovae and collisional heating, radiative and collisional cooling, and ejected nucleosynthesis. Moreover, all of this occurs in the context of the cosmic expansion, the formation of cosmic filaments, dark-matter haloes, spiral density waves, and emerging dark energy. This paper summarizes a review of recent attempts to reconstruct this complex evolution. We compare simulated properties with various observed properties of the Local Group. Among the generic features of simulated systems is the tendency for galactic halos to form within the dark matter filaments that define a supergalactic plane. Gravitational interaction along this structure leads to a streaming flow toward the two dominant galaxies in the cluster. We analyze this alignment and streaming flow and compare with the observed properties of Local-Group galaxies. Our comparison with Local Group properties suggests that some dwarf galaxies in the Local Group are part of a local streaming flow. These simulations also suggest that a significant fraction of the Galactic halo formed at large distances and arrived later along these streaming flows.
