A wideband beamforming algorithm for estimating the azimuth angle, elevation angle, velocity, and range using a planar phased radar array with antenna switching is proposed. It uses the time-variant steering vector model. Simulation results illustrating the performance of the proposed beamformer are presented.
This paper proposes robust source localization methods for estimating the azimuth angle, elevation angle, velocity, and range using a low-complexity planar antenna array in impulsive non-Gaussian noise environments. The proposed robust source localization methods for wireless communication applications are based on nonlinear M-estimation provided from Huber and Hampel. Simulation results show the robustness performance of the proposed robust methods in impulsive non-Gaussian noise.
This research introduces three new fractal array configurations that have superior performance over the well-known Sierpinski fractal array. These arrays are based on the fractal shapes Dragon, Twig, and a new shape which will be called Flap fractal. Their superiority comes from the low side lobe level and/or the wide angle between the main lobe and the side lobes, which improves the signal-to-intersymbol interference and signal-to-noise ratio. Their performance is compared to the known array configurations: uniform, random, and Sierpinski fractal arrays.

In this paper, the synthesis method of multibeam radiation pattern with multi-directional beams and nulls is proposed. Genetic algorithm is applied for the optimization of amplitude and phase of the feeding signal into each element that is structured in planar array of single patch antenna with an arbitrary field distribution. To verify the validity of the proposed method, $2{\times}2$ planar array antenna is used for the measurement and the measured far field radiation pattern is compared with the simulation result. As a result, the synthesis of multibeam radiation pattern is implemented by the optimization of amplitude and phase of the feeding signal into each element of $8{\times}8$ planar array antenna system.

A radiating elements fault diagnosis method with simplified radiation pattern measurement procedure was presented for planar active phased array antenna system. For presenting the mentioned method, the technique for linear approximation based on the radiation characteristics of a planar array configuration and a technique for solving a unique solution problem that occur in process of diagnosing a fault in a radiating elements were presented. Based on the presented method and a genetic algorithm, experimental simulations were performed for radiating element defect diagnosis according to various planar active phased array antenna configurations. As a result, it was confirmed that the presented radiating element fault diagnosis method can be smoothly applied to planar active phased antennas having various configurations.

In this paper, we design an optimized planar array structure with triangular lattice for side-lobe reduction using a genetic algorithm. A constraint optimization is implemented by optimally removing some outer array elements far from the array center. It is shown that only the proper array shape without optimizing the magnitudes and phases of each array antenna can give low side-lobe level with a slight main beam broadening.

In this paper, the dipole-fed planar array antenna applied Yagi-Uda antenna away theory to microstrip antenna is designed and fabricated at X-band. The design procedure of the dipole-fed planar array antenna with the wide bandwidth is presented to be easily practiced to a wireless communication system. The radiation pattern, return loss and bandwidth of the antenna are improved by the finite differential time domain(FDTD) numerical method. The propriety of analysis of planar dipole antenna is proved from the measured data. From the measured results, the antenna maximum gain is 4.9dBi at center frequency of 10GHz and frequency bandwidth is about 40%. Front-to-back ratio is 16dB, and half-power beam-width of E-plane and H-plane are 117$^{\circ}$and 156$^{\circ}$, respectively. When VSWR of antenna is less than 2, the measured results are agreed well with the theoretical values in the frequency range from 7.4GHz to 11.88GHz.

In this paper, the design, fabrication and experiment on a planar array antenna with a flat-topped radiation pattern for a mobile base station antenna were described. The current distribution of an antenna aperture, which is easily realizable in a feeding network compared with the conventional one of sin(x)/x was optimized for shaping a desired flat-topped radiation pattern. The planar array antenna designed in this paper has a rectangular lattice and is composed of array elements of 16${\times}$8. Each radiating element, which is a microstrip element fed coaxially, has a linear vertical polarization and the feed network which use a Wilkinson power divider and a 180$^{\circ}$ ring hybrid coupler as a base element is designed. The flat-topped radiation pattern with 90$^{\circ}$ is shaped by 16 array elements with the element spacing of 0.55 λ$_{ο}$ in the azimuth plane, and the normal radiation pattern with 10$^{\circ}$ is shaped by 8 array elements with the element spacing of 0.65 λ$_{ο}$ in the elevation plane. Also, the planar array antenna is symmetrically divided into four parts. It consists of one hundred-twenty-eight radiating elements, thirty-two 1-4 column dividers, low 1-8 row dividers and one 1-4 input power divider. In order to verify electrical performances of the planar way antenna proposed in this paper, the experimental breadboard operated in tile band of 1.92~2.17 GHz(IMT2000 band) was fabricated, and its experimental results were a good agreement with simulation ones.

Because the installation problem of parabola antenna that is tilted to 45 degree when this antenna is installed at the area of middle latitude, the study on planar antenna in place of parabola antenna is made rapid progess. Especially, The development of the planar antenna for VSAT is needed depending on the increased Ka-band satellite communications. In this paper, in order to meet with these performances, an array antenna consisting of the vertical polarized waveguide longitudinal slots based on the leaky-wave mode of traveling wave antenna is proposed. Especially, for the lower sidelobe level, the design method of the radiation power distribution control using the different slot widths is proposed. An array antenna consisting of 32 leakywave waveguide antennas is showing 35.16 dBi of gain, 2.5 degree of beamwidth at azimuth, below than -30 dB of sidelobe level, 45.8 degree of beam tilt angle in center frequency 30.2 GHz.

In this paper, an array antenna is designed far base station of a street micro-cell in urban areas. It has a rectangular radiation pattern. The current distribution of the array is decided by using a modified Woodward-Lawson sampling pattern synthesis method. To confirm the realization of the array antenna with rectangular pattern, 12 array antenna with a planar type monopole fed by stripline is fabricated and measured. In the results of the measured values, H-plane pattern of the antenna nearly yields a rectangular radiation pattern.
