A Matched Filter with Two Data Flow Paths for Searching Sychronization in DSSS (DSSS 동기탐색을 위한 이중 데이터 흐름 경로를 갖는 정합필터)

  • In this Paper, the matched filter for searching initial synchronization in DSSS (direct sequence spread spectrum) receiver is studied. The matched filter with a single data flow path is described which can be presented by HDL (Hardware Description Language). In order to improve the processing time of operations for the filter, equations are arranged to represent two data flow paths and the associated hardware model is proposed. The model has an architecture based on parallelism and pipeline for fast processing, in which two data flow paths with a series of memory, multiplier and accumulator are placed in parallel. The performance of the model is analyzed and compared with the matched filter with a single data flow path.

  • Prediction of the maximum packing volume fraction with non-spherical particles has been one of the important problems in powder technology. The sphericity of fly ash particles depending on the particle diameter was measured by means of a CCD image processing instrument. An algorithm to predict the maximum packing volume fraction with non-spherical particles is proposed. The maximum packing volume fraction is used to predict the slurry viscosity under well dispersed conditions. For this purpose, Simha's cell model is applied for concentrated slurry with wide particle size distribution. Also, Usui's model developed for aggregative slurries is applied to predict the non-Newtonian viscosity of dense fly ash - water slurry. It is certified that the maximum packing volume fraction for non-spherical particles can be successfully used to predict slurry viscosity. The pressure drop in a pipe flow is predicted by using the non-Newtonian viscosity of dense fly ash-water slurry obtained by the present model. The predicted relationship between pressure drop and flow rate results in a good agreement with the experimented data obtained for a test rig with 50 mm inner diameter tube. Base on the design procedure proposed in this study, a feasibility study of fly ash hydraulic transportation system from a coal-fired power station to a controlled deposit site is carried out to give a future prospect of inexpensive fly ash transportation technology.

  • In order to support effective decision-making related to inter-sewage planning, this study proposes the spatial distribution method of inter-sewage treatement area using spatial analysis of GIS, Communication system of database, spatial interaction of Gravity model. Evalution Indexs are consist of economic, social/political and environmental condition value which are explained by the analysis of AHP algorithm ,based on opinion of related experts. Network module in Arc/Info is applied in order to find out minimum pipeline root in Miho river watershed, one of the sub-basin of Geum river basin. This value also is utilized for the construction of cost decay function in gravity model.

  • Genetic Algorithm(GA) has been known as a method of solving large-scaled optimization problems with complex constraints in various applications. Since a major drawback of the GA is that it needs a long computation time, the hardware implementations of Genetic Algorithm Processors(GAP) are focused on in recent studies. In this paper, a hardware-oriented GA was proposed in order to save the hardware resources and to reduce the execution time of GAP. Based on steady-state model among continuos generation model, the proposed GA used modified tournament selection, as well as special survival condition, with replaced whenever the offspring's fitness is better than worse-fit parent's. The proposed algorithm shows more than 30% in convergence speed over the conventional algorithm in simulation. Finally, by employing the efficient pipeline parallelization and handshaking protocol in proposed GAP, above 30% of the computation speed-up can be achieved over survival-based GA which runs one million crossovers per second (1㎒), when device speed and size of application are taken into account on prototype. It would be used for high speed processing such of central processor of evolvable hardware, robot control and many optimization problems.

  • In the process of liquid rocket engine design, obtaining method of the dynamic characteristics of engine should be emphasized typically to determine the control logic and algorithms of the throttle valves in the propellant feed pipeline. However, determining the dynamic characteristics of an engine through the autonomous test is very hard and laborious, so that the numerical approach is prevailing. In this study, using the previously developed dynamic analysis model of the engine around the steady state, we introduced a disturbance to this model, and obtained the dynamic response in the time domain. And by applying the well-known Levy method to this temporal response, we could deduce the transfer function of that system that can give us various information of engine and can be manipulated to design the control system.

Real-time Defog Processing Using Cooperative Networks

  • In this paper, we propose a deep learning model and inference pipeline that can process high-resolution fog video in real-time, addressing limitations found in classical defogging algorithms and existing deep learning-based defogging models. The key idea is separating the tasks of inferring fog color and estimating the amount of fog into two distinct models, allowing for a more efficient, lightweight design that improves inference speed. While many deep defogging models perform well on synthetic fog images, they suffer from reduced effectiveness on real-world fog images with diverse fog colors and backgrounds. We solve this problem by introducing a synthetic fog dataset generation method tailored for real-world conditions. Through experiments, we demonstrate the increase in visible distance achieved by proposed model and compare its inference speed and defogging performance against pre-trained models on real-world CCTV fog images.

Analytical Models and their Performance Analysis of Superscalar Processors (수퍼스칼라 프로세서의 해석적 모델 및 성능 분석)

  • 본 논문에서는 유한버퍼의(finite-buffered) 동기화된(synchronous) 큐잉모델(queueing model)을 이용하여 명령어들간의 병렬성, 분기명령의 빈도수, 분기예측(branch prediction)의 정확도, 캐쉬미스 등의 파라미터들을 고려하여 프로세서의 명령어 실행율을 예측하며 캐쉬의 성능과 파이프라인 성능간의 관계를 분석할 수 있는 새로운 해석적 모델을 제안하였다. 해석적 모델은 모델의 타당성을 검증하기 위해서 시뮬레이션을 수행하여 얻은 결과와 비교하였다. 해석적 모델과 시뮬레이션을 비교한 결과 대부분 10% 오차 내에서 일치하였다. 본 연구를 통하여 얻은 해석적 모델을 사용하면 시뮬레이션에서는 드러나지 않는 성능제약의 원인에 대한 명확한 규명이 가능하기 때문에 성능향상을 위한 설계자료를 얻을 수 있으며, 시스템 성능 밸런스를 위한 캐쉬와 비순차이슈 파이프라인 성능간의 관계에 대한 정확한 분석이 가능하다.Abstract This research presents a novel analytic model to predict the instruction execution rate of superscalar processors using the queuing model with finite-buffer size and synchronous operation mode. The proposed model is also able to analyze the performance relationship between cache and pipeline. The proposed model takes into account various kinds of architectural parameters such as instruction-level parallelism, branch probability, the accuracy of branch prediction, cache miss, and etc.. To prove the correctness of the model, we performed extensive simulations and compared the results with the analytic model. Simulation results showed that the proposed model can estimate the average execution rate accurately within 10% error compared to simulation results. The proposed model can explain the causes of performance bottleneck which cannot be uncovered by the simulation method only. The model is also able to show the effect of the cache miss on the performance of out-of-order issue superscalar processors, which can provide an valuable information in designing a balanced system.

A Study on pipelines of a media content production based on digital reconstruction (디지털 복원에 기반한 영상콘텐츠 프로덕션의 파이프라인 연구 -카이스트 문화기술연구센터 디지털 헤리티지 그룹의 사례연구를 중심으로-)

  • In regard to media contents of digital heritage reconstruction, they are actively produced in museums, art galleries and special exhibitions. However, there is no concrete guideline for the productions and the pipelines are not systematic either. This makes the process ineffective regarding time and cost. Media contents production of digital heritage reconstruction might seem similar to film or documentary production, but it is important to construct its specific pipeline based on its specific purpose. The digital Heritage group in research center for culture technology of KAIST produced media contents which digitally reconstructed various heritages such as Persepolis, Iranian remains, with National museum of Korea, Sukgulam, and Hue, an ancient city in Vietnam, with Cultural heritage administration of Korea. From these experiences and case studies, this paper will present a pipeline model for efficient production.

  • Buried natural gas pipelines in densely populated urban areas have serious hazards of property damages and casualties generated by release, dispersion, fire and explosion of gas caused by outside or inside failures. So as to prevent any accident in advance, managers implement danger management based on quantitative risk analysis. In order to evaluate quantitative risk about buried natural gas pipelines, we need calculation for radiant heat and pressure wave caused by calculation for release rate of chemical material, dispersion analysis, fire or explosion modeling through consequence analysis in priority, in this paper, we carry out calculation for release rate of pressured natural gas, radiant heat of fireball based in accident scenario of actual "San Bruno" buried high pressured pipelines through models which CCPS, TNO provide and compare with an actual damage result.

Processing Techniques for Non-photorealistic Contents Rendering in Mobile Devices (모바일 기기에서의 비실사적 콘텐츠 렌더링을 위한 프로세싱 기법)

  • Recently, development of mobile service and increased demand for mobile device make mobile environment noticeable in computer graphics. Especially demand for 3D graphic services in mobile devices is steadily increased. However up to the present non-photorealistic rendering is mainly studied in desktop platform. In the result, existing research were designed for desktop computers and are not well-suited for mobile devices. Thus, there is a growing needs for processing techniques that provide the ability to render 3D non-photorealistic graphics through mobile devices. In this paper, we discuss processing techniques for non-photorealistic rendering that are especially cartoon shading and rendering in mobile devices. Through the result of this research, it is expected that silhouette edge rendering for mobile display environment and preprocessing file technique for shading. The efficiency of 3D mobile graphic service like 3D model in cartoon style is increased by using proposed preprocessing file and rendering pipeline. Our work can provide mobile cartoon rendering results and various mobile contents to users.
