Development and Performance Evaluation of an Animal SPECT System Using Philips ARGUS Gamma Camera and Pinhole Collimator (Philips ARGUS 감마카메라와 바늘구멍조준기를 이용한 소동물 SPECT 시스템의 개발 및 성능 평가)

  • Purpose: We developed an animal SPECT system using clinical Philips ARGUS scintillation camera and pinhole collimator with specially manufactured small apertures. In this study, we evaluated the physical characteristics of this system and biological feasibility for animal experiments. Materials and Methods: Rotating station for small animals using a step motor and operating software were developed. Pinhole inserts with small apertures (diameter of 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 mm) were manufactured and physical parameters including planar spatial resolution and sensitivity and reconstructed resolution were measured for some apertures. In order to measure the size of the usable field of view according to the distance from the focal point, manufactured multiple line sources separated with the same distance were scanned and numbers of lines within the field of view were counted. Using a Tc-99m line source with 0.5 mm diameter and 12 mm length placed in the exact center of field of view, planar spatial resolution according to the distance was measured. Calibration factor to obtain FWHM values in 'mm' unit was calculated from the planar image of two separated line sources. Te-99m point source with i mm diameter was used for the measurement of system sensitivity. In addition, SPECT data of micro phantom with cold and hot line inserts and rat brain after intravenous injection of [I-123]FP-CIT were acquired and reconstructed using filtered back protection reconstruction algorithm for pinhole collimator. Results: Size of usable field of view was proportional to the distance from the focal point and their relationship could be fitted into a linear equation (y=1.4x+0.5, x: distance). System sensitivity and planar spatial resolution at 3 cm measured using 1.0 mm aperture was 71 cps/MBq and 1.24 mm, respectively. In the SPECT image of rat brain with [I-123]FP-CIT acquired using 1.0 mm aperture, the distribution of dopamine transporter in the striatum was well identified in each hemisphere. Conclusion: We verified that this new animal SPECT system with the Phlilps ARGUS scanner and small apertures had sufficient performance for small animal imaging.

Pinhole Bone Scintigraphic Manifestation of Fibrous Dysplasia (섬유성 이형성증의 바늘구멍 골스캔 소견)

  • To evaluate the pinhole scintigraphic findings and its significance, authors retrospectively compared the pinhole bone scintigrams and corresponding radiograms of 16 lesions in 14 patients with fibrous dysplasia. They were diagnosed pathologically in 10 lesions and radiologically in 6 lesions. The mean age of patients was 41.1 years. The mean interval between two studies was 1.1 days. Locations were ribs 7, pelvic bone 4, clavicle 1, long bones 4(femur 2, tibia 1, humerus 1). The radiographic findings were as follows : the central portions were radiolucent(n=9), ground-glass opacities(n=5) or sclerotic(n=2) and the peripheral appearance were sclerotic rim(n=5), septation(n=7), cortical perforation (n=10) and invisible cortical thinning(n=9). Pinhole scintigraphic findings were as follows; Central portions showed normal 1+ uptake in 6 cases(radiolucent 5, ground-glass opacity 1), slightly increased 2+ upta- ke in 7 cases(radiolucent 4, ground-glass opacity 3), and marked 3+ uptake in 3 cases(ground-glass opacity 1, sclerotic 2). The 15 of 16 lesions showed more intense uptake in the peripheral portion: slightly increased 2+ uptake corresponding to the sclerotic rim(5/5) and unvisible cortical thinning(1/9), and irregular foci of marked 3 + uptake corresponding to septation(7/7), cortical perforation(10/10) and invisible cortical thinning (8/9). One of 16 lesions showed homogeneous 2+ uptake. In conclusion, pinhole scintigram provides information on regional activity of the fibrous dysplasia, which would be helpful in diagnosis, prediction of prognosis and determination of treatment plan.

Perforation Adjustment of Unit Package for 'Fuji' Apples during Short-term Cold Storage and Export Simulation ('후지' 사과의 단기 저온저장 및 모의수출 과정에서 소포장의 천공도 조절 효과)

  • Various types of unit packaging methods were applied for 'Fuji' apples during short-term cold storage and export simulation. Gas tightness of the package was controlled stepwise in the successive two-year experiments using different perforation treatments (none, punch hole, or pinhole) and sealing methods (tie v s. heat seal). Risk of tight packaging and effectiveness of macroperforation on weight loss and quality maintenance were analyzed as related to changes in gas concentration inside the packages. Immediately after harvest, each 5 apple units were packaged in $40{\mu}m$ polypropylene (PP) film bags, stored 4 weeks at $0^{\circ}C$, and then put on the shelf for one week at ambient temperature in the preliminary experiment, In the main experiment, export process was imposed after storage simulating 2 week refrigerated container shipment at $0^{\circ}C$ plus one week local marketing at ambient temperature. Non-perforated film packaging with relatively high gas tightness induced flesh browning caused by carbon dioxide accumulation regardless of the sealing methods. Among perforated film packaging, in contrast, atmospheric modification was partly established only in the pinhole treatment and flesh browning symptom was not observed in all the treatments. Even the punch hole perforated film packaging without gas tightness effectively reduced the weight loss, whereas had slight benefits for quality maintenance. Reduced perforation using pinhole treatment seemed to improve sensory texture, while effects on physicochemical quality were insignificant. Overall results suggest the need of more minute perforation treatments on the packaging film to ensure modified atmosphere effects on quality maintenance.

Interfacial disruption effect on multilayer-films/GaN : Comparative study of Pd/Ni and Ni/Pd films

  • 직접천이형 wide band gap(3.4eV) 반도체중의 하나인 GaN를 청색 및 자외선 laser diode, 고출력 전자장비 등으로 응용하기 위해서는 낮은 접합저항을 갖는 Ohmic contact이 선행되어야 한다. 그러나 만족할만한 p-type GaN의 Ohmic contact은 아직 실현되고 있지 못하며, 이는 GaN와 접합 금속과의 구체적인 반응의 연구를 필요로 한다. 본 연구에서 앞서 Pt, Pt, Ni등의 late transition metal을 p-GaN에 접합시킨 결과 이들은 접합 당시 비교적 평탄하나 후열 처리과정에서 비교적 낮은 온도에서 기판과 열팽창계수의 차이로 인하여 평탄성을 잃어버리면서 barrier height가 증가한다는 사실을 확인하였다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 이러한 열적 불안정성을 극복하기 위하여 Ni과 Pd를 차례로 증착하고 가열하면서 interfacial reaction, film morphology, Fermi level의 움직임을 monchromatic XPS(x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) 와 SAM(scanning Auger microscopy) 그리고 ex-situ AFM을 이용하여 밝히고자 하였다. 특히 후열처리에 의한 계면 반응에 수반되는 구성 금속원소 간의 합금현상과 금속 층의 평탄성이 밀접한 관계가 있다는 것을 확인하였다. 이러한 합금과정에서 나타나는 금속원소들의 중심 준위의 이동을 체계적으로 규명하기 위해서 Pd1-xNix와 Pd1-xGax 합금들의 표준시료를 arc melting method로 만들어 농도에 따른 금속원소들의 중심 준위의 이동을 측정하여, Pd/Ni/p-GaN 및 Ni/Pd/p-GaN 계에서 열처리 온도에 따른 interfacial reaction을 확인하였다. 그 결과 두 계가 상온에서 nitride 및 alloy를 형성하지 않고 고르게 증착되고, 열처리 온도를 40$0^{\circ}C$에서 $650^{\circ}C$까지 증가시킴에 따라 계면반응의 부산물인 metallic Ga은 증가하고 있으마 nitride는 여전히 형성되지 않는 것을 확인하였다. 증착당시 Ni이 계면에 있는 Pd/Ni/p-GaN의 경우에는 52$0^{\circ}C$까지의 열처리에 의하여 Ni과 Pd가 골고루 섞이고 그 평탄성도 유지되고 barier height의 변화도 없었다. 더 높은 $650^{\circ}C$ 가열에 의해서는 surface free energy가 작은 Ga의 활발한 편석 현상으로 인해 표면은 Ga이 풍부한 Pd-Ga의 합금층으로 덮이고, 동시에 작은 pinhole들이 발생하며 barrier height도 0.3eV 가량 증가하게 된다. 반면에 증착당시 Pd이 계면에 있는 Ni/Pd/p-GaN의 경우에는 40$0^{\circ}C$의 가열까지는 두 금속이 그들 계면에서부터 섞이나, 52$0^{\circ}C$의 가열에 의해 이미 barrier height가 0.2eV 가량 증가하기 시작하였다. 더 높은 $650^{\circ}C$가열에 의해서는 커다란 pinhole, 0.5eV 가량의 barrier height 증가, Pd clustering이 동시에 관찰되었다. 따라서 Ni과 Pd의 일함수는 물론 thermal expansion coefficient가 거의 같으며 surface free energy도 거의 일치한다는 점을 감안하면, 이렇게 뚜렷한 열적 안정성의 차이는 GaN와 contact metal과의 반응시작 온도(disruption onset temperature)의 차이에 기인함을 알 수 있었다. 즉 계면에서의 반응에 의해 편석되는 Ga에 의해 박막의 strain이 이완되면, pinhole 등의 박막결함이 줄어 들고, 이는 계면의 N의 out-diffusion을 방지하여 p-type GaN의 barrier height 증가를 막게 된다.

Optimal Gas Detection System in Cargo Compressor Room of Gas Fueled LNG Carrier (가스추진 LNG 운반선의 가스 압축기실에 설치된 가스검출장치의 최적 배치에 관한 연구)

  • This study analyzes the optimal location of gas detectors through the gas dispersion in a cargo compressor room of a 174K LNG carrier equipped with high-pressure cargo handling equipment; in addition, we propose a reasonable method for determining the safety regulations specified in the new International Code of the Construction and Equipment of Ships Carrying Liquefied Gases in Bulk (IGC). To conduct an LNG gas dispersion simulation in the cargo compressor room-equipped with an ME-GI engine-of a 174 K LNG carrier, the geometry of the room as well as the equipment and piping, are designed using the same 3D size at a 1-to-1 scale. Scenarios for a gas leak were examined under high pressure of 305 bar and low pressure of 1 bar. The pinhole sizes for high pressure are 4.5, 5.0, and 5.6mm, and for low pressure are 100 and 140 mm. The results demonstrate that the cargo compressor room will not pose a serious risk with respect to the flammable gas concentration as verified by a ventilation assessment for a 5.6 mm pinhole for a high-pressure leak under gas rupture conditions, and a low-pressure leak of 100 and 140 mm with different pinhole sizes. However, it was confirmed that the actual location of the gas detection sensors in a cargo compressor room, according to the new IGC code, should be moved to other points, and an analysis of the virtual monitor points through a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation.

Alkyl Group Dissociation During Corona Excitation of Alkylbenzenes

  • Well-resolved vibronic emission spectra were recorded in the visible region from the corona discharge of precursor alkylbenzenes in a technique of corona excited supersonic expansion using a pinhole-type glass nozzle. From the observed spectra, we found the evidence of the presence of benzyl-type radicals generated by dissociation of C-C or C-H bonds of alkyl group. After identification of benzyl-type radicals formed in the corona discharge, we suggest that energy densities in alkyl chain play a crucial role in determining the bond dissociation during corona excitation.

  • In this Paper we show the LCD simulator for defect inspection using image processing algorithm and neural network. The defect inspection algorithm of the LCD consists of preprocessing, feature extraction and defect classification. Preprocess removes noise from LCD image, using morphology operator and neural network is used for the defect classification. Sample images with scratch, pinhole, and spot from real LCD color filter image are used. The proposed algorithms show that defect detected and classified in the ratio of 92.3% and 94.6 respectively.

  • Generally, if we want to change the perspectivity of objects, we should change the position of object or camera, forward or backward. In this paper, recognition of the perspectivity of objects is proposed by using a new elemental image array which is made change the pinhole points horizontally.
