  • The columns and The belt wall of Tower Palace III were desined as 800kg/c $m^2$ ultra-high strength concrete. The concrete should meet or exceed the requirements of slump of 23cm, $\sigma$$_{18H}$ of 100kg/c $m^2$, $\sigma$$_{91th}$ of, 800kg/c $m^2$. The concrete mixings with 4 different domestic Silica fumes were investigated. Laboratory tests, the pilot productions of batcher plant and the full-scale mock up tests were performed. As results of site application, all test results are satisfied with the requirements of columns and belt wall.l.

  • The Alternative energy has lately attracted considerable attention due to the high oil price and environment problem. In this study, pilot test facility for using the geothermal energy source from riverbank filtration was constructed and monitoring devices are installed to estimate the efficiency of this system. Initial installation cost can be saved efficiently by connect ing a heat pump system into the exist ing pumping well in Changwon riverbank filtration site. One set of monitoring results during summer was presented and analyzed.

  • The National Geographic Information Institute (NGII) in korea, through the National Geographic Information System (NGIS) Program, has prepared to generate and disseminate digital elevation data for Korea. This is a pilot research to propose a policy for production, maintenance, and supply of Korea Digital Elevation Data(KDED). Customer demands for accuracy and resolution of DEM was surveyed through a questionnaire. In order to investigate the quality, the technical efficiency and the production cost, a tentative DEM in a small test site was generated based on digital topographic maps (original paper map scale 1:5,000), analytical plotter, and LIDAR. The Accuracy standard for KDED was derived based on source data generation methods. As a result of this research, a uniformly spaced grid model was recommended for KDED. Its preferable grid space is 5m in urban areas and its vicinity, and 10m in field and mountainous area. LIDAR has been valuated as a proper KDED generation method fulfilling customers' demands for the accuracy.

  • Bioventing is commonly used for petroleum hydrocarbon (PHC) spills. This process provides better subsurface oxygenation, thus stimulating degradation by indigenous microorganisms. Therefore soil vapor monitoring points (VMPs) are extremely important in determining the potential effectiveness of bioventing and in long-term monitoring of bioventing progress. In this study in-situ soil gas monitoring well (GMW) was developed and presented the pilot test results which recover the contaminated site by bioventing method. The result of application was successful and it was expected that GMW developed could be applied to the evaluation procedure of bioventing effectiveness and long-term remediation potential.

  • While performing the advisory services of the electrification of conventional lines for KTX(Korea High Speed Train), we faced the speed-up problem of catenary system for the existing narrow tunnel. To solve this problem, the new system, to be named "Oblique encumbrance tunnel catenary", was developed. This system is mainly characterized by a simple catenary type, a dual bracket, a oblique encumbrance, a small system height and the same bracket used for the radial tension load and compression one. In this paper, the basic concepts, overall system configuration and main points considered in a design phase for the ′oblique encumbrance tunnel catenary′ are described. Moreover, the detail design criteria and other contents like manufacturing pilot products and verifying the performance through a factory and site test are added.

  • Dam slope RIM is a highly important contact interface where the main body and the base surface are connected. In general, when the grouting for the slope of the dam structure is designed, it is planned using limited data (drilling, geological map, etc.). This makes it very difficult to accurately consider the original ground characteristics of the slope RIM grouting target, In addition, when the grouting volume planned during the design is drilled and injected into the original ground where the waterstop is secured, there is a possibility that the original ground with the waterstop is disturbed and the effect of the waterstop is rather diminished. In order to overcome such problems, it is more suitable to first consider geological conditions and determine whether to perform optimal grouting on the original ground through on-site repair tests before performing RIM grouting. In this paper, to determine the grouting of the RIM unit, a pilot hole water pressure test was performed on the rock of the slope in the target section. The analysis shows grouting volume of 1 Lugeon or less, and the cement injection amount also shows the injection result of 1 kg/m or less. In this case, performing grouting is rather counterproductive. This result can be evaluated through a rock of which some degree of order of mass is secured, as it is a dam design standard of 1 Lugeon or less when analyzed, using the results of visual observation and geological map creation during slope cutting. Therefore, in conclusion, it is preferable to make the decision for using RIM grouting on the slope of the dam body structure, based on 1 Lugeon in a rock state, and the cement injection amount also at 1 kg/m.

  • The feasibility of stimulating in situ aerobic cometabolic activity of indigenous microorganisms was investigated in a trichloroethene(TCE)-contaminated aquifer, A series of single-well natural drift tests (SWNDT) was conducted by injecting site groundwater amended with a bromide tracer and combinations of toluene, oxygen, nitrate, ethylene and TCE into an existing monitoring well and by sampling the same well over time. Transformation of ethylene, a surrogate of overall TCE transformation activity, was also observed, and its transformation results in the production of ethylene oxide, suggesting that some tolune-oxidizing microorganisms stimulated may express a monooxygenase enzymes. Also in situ transformation of TCE was confirmed by dilution-adjusted data analysis developed in this study. These results indicate that, in this environment, toluene and oxygen additions stimulated the growth and aerobic cometabolic activity of indigenous microorganisms expressing monooxygenase enzymes and that these are responsible for observed toluene utilization and cometabolism of ethylene and TCE. The simple, low-cost field test method provides an effective method for conducting rapid field assessments and pilot testing of aerobic cometabolism of TCE, which has previously hindered application of this technology to groundwater remediation.

  • Workers at construction sites are easily exposed to many dangers and accidents involving falls, tripping, and missteps on stairs. However, researches on construction site monitoring system to prevent work-related injuries are still insufficient. The purpose of this study was to develop a wearable textile pressure insole sensor and examine its effectiveness in managing the real-time safety of construction workers. The sensor was designed based on the principles of parallel capacitance measurement using conductive textile and the monitoring system was developed by C# language. Three separate experiments were carried out for performance evaluation of the proposed sensor: (1) varying the distance between two capacitance plates to examine changes in capacitance charges, (2) repeatedly applying 1 N of pressure for 5,000 times to evaluate consistency, and (3) gradually increasing force by 1 N (from 1 N to 46 N) to test the linearity of the sensor value. Five subjects participated in our pilot test, which examined whether ascending and descending the stairs can be distinguished by our sensor and by weka assessment tool using k-NN algorithm. The 10-fold cross-validation method was used for analysis and the results of accuracy in identifying stair ascending and descending were 87.2% and 90.9%, respectively. By applying our sensor, the type of activity, weight-shifting patterns for balance control, and plantar pressure distribution for postural changes of the construction workers can be detected. The results of this study can be the basis for future sensor-based monitoring device development studies and fall prediction researches for construction workers.
