Behavior of full-scale prestressed pile-deck connections for wharves under cyclic loading

  • The behavior of pile-deck connections of pile-supported marginal wharfs subjected to earthquake loading is of key importance to ensure a good performance of this type of structures. Two precast-pretensioned pile-deck connections used in the construction of pile-supported marginal wharfs were tested under cyclic loading. The first is a connection with simple reinforcement details and light steel ratio developed for use where moderate pile-deck rotation demands are expected in the wharf. The second is specifically developed to sustain the large rotation, shear force and bending moment demands, as required for the shortest piles in a marginal wharf. Data obtained from the test program is used in the paper to calibrate an equivalent plastic hinge length that can be incorporated into nonlinear analysis models of these structures when prestressed pile-deck connections with duct embedded dowels are used.

Approximate seismic displacement capacity of piles in marine oil terminals

  • This paper proposes an approximate procedure to estimate seismic displacement capacity - defined as yield displacement times the displacement ductility - of piles in marine oil terminals. It is shown that the displacement ductility of piles is relatively insensitive to most of the pile parameters within ranges typically applicable to most piles in marine oil terminals. Based on parametric studies, lower bound values of the displacement ductility of two types of piles commonly used in marine oil terminals - reinforced-concrete and hollow-steel - with either pin connection or full-moment-connection to the deck for two seismic design levels - Level 1 or Level 2 - and for two locations of the hinging in the pile - near the deck or below the ground - are proposed. The lower bound values of the displacement ductility are determined such that the material strain limits specified in the Marine Oil Terminal Engineering and Maintenance Standard (MOTEMS) are satisfied at each design level. The simplified procedure presented in this paper is intended to be used for preliminary design of piles or as a check on the results from the detailed nonlinear static pushover analysis procedure, with material strain control, specified in the MOTEMS.

진동대 모형실험을 이용한 경사말뚝의 동적 거동 분석과 내진성능 향상을 위한 보강기법 개발 (Dynamic Behaviors of Behavior Piles and Countermeasures to Improve Their Seismic Performance Using Shaking Table Tests)

  • 본 연구에서는 경사말뚝과 수직말뚝의 정적/동적 거동을 분석하고, 경사말뚝의 내진성능을 향상시키기 위한 보강방법을 제안하기 위하여 진동대 모형시험을 수행하였다. 첫 번째로 정적 횡방향 재하시험을 수행하여 정적 횡방향 하중을 받는 경사말뚝과 수직말뚝의 거동을 비교분석하였으며, 두 번째로 진동대 모형실험을 수행하여 말뚝머리에서 발생하는 축력과 침모멘트를 분석하여 지진하중에 대한 경사말뚝의 취약성을 확인하였다. 마지막으로 지진시 경사말뚝의 내진성능을 향상시킬 수 있는 보강기법을 제안하고 진동대 모형실험을 통하여 그 유효성을 확인하였다. 본 연구에서 경사말뚝의 내진 보강기법으로 말뚝머리와 상부갑판을 연결할 때 고정연결 대신 연성이 큰 고무와 힌지를 이용한 연결조건을 제안하였으며, 경사말뚝의 경사각이 수직 대 수평비가8:3 일 때 지진하중에 의해 경사말뚝에서 최소의 부재력이 발생하는 것을 확인하였다.
