Effects of thermal annealing on the dielectric/piezoelectric properties of $Pb(Zn, Mg)_{1/3}Nb_{2/3}O_3-PbTiO_3$ ceramics (PZMNPT) with Zn/Mg=6/4) were examined across the rhombohedral/tetragonal morphotropic phase boundary (MPB). Both the relative dielectric permittivity ($\varepsilon$r)and the piezoelectric constant($d_33$)/electromechanical coupling constant ($k_p$)were increased by thermal annealing ($800^{\circ}$~$900^{\circ}C$) after sintering at $1150^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr. Based on the dielectric analysis using the series mixing model and the concept of a random distribution of the local Curie points, the observed improvements in the dielectric and piezoelectric properties of PZMN-PT were interpreted in terms of the elimination of PbO-rich amorphous intergranular layers(~1nm) induced by thermal annealing. A concrete evidence of the presence of amorphous grain-boundary layers in the unannealed (as-sintered) specimen was obtained by examining the structure of intergranular region using a TEM.
The present paper investigates the propagation of Love-type wave in a composite structure comprised of imperfectly bonded piezoelectric layer with lower fiber-reinforced half-space with rectangular shaped irregularity at the common interface. Closed-form expression of phase velocity of Love-type wave propagating in the composite structure has been deduced analytically for electrically open and short conditions. Some special cases of the problem have also been studied. It has been found that the obtained results are in well-agreement to the Classical Love wave equation. Significant effects of various parameters viz. irregularity parameter, flexibility imperfectness parameter and viscoelastic imperfectness parameter associated with complex common interface, dielectric constant and piezoelectric coefficient on phase velocity of Love-type wave has been reported. Numerical computations and graphical illustrations have been carried out to demonstrate the deduced results for various cases. Moreover, comparative study has been performed to unravel the effects of the presence of reinforcement and piezoelectricity in the composite structure and also to analyze the existence of irregularity and imperfectness at the common interface of composite structure in context of the present problem which serves as a salient feature of the present study.
(1-x)(Na,K)$NbO_3$-xBa(Zr,Ti)$O_3$ lead free piezoelectric ceramics were synthesized to enhance the piezoelectric properties of (Na,K)$NbO_3$. The synthesis and sintering method were the conventional solid state reaction method and general sintering method in air atmosphere. We report the improved piezoelectric properties in the perovskite structure composed of the NKN and BZT ceramics. We investigated the effects of NKN, BZT on the structural and electrical properties of the NKN-BZT ceramics. The NKN-BZT ceramics show good performance with piezoelectric constant $d_{33}$=155pC/N. The results reveal that (1-x)(Na,K)$NbO_3$-xBa(Zr,Ti)$O_3$ ceramics are promising candidate materials for lead-free piezoelectric application.
In this study, in order to. develop the low temperature sintering ceramics for multilayer piezoelectric actuator, PMN-PNN-PZT ceramics using CuO, $Bi_{2}O_{3}\;and\;Li_{2}CO_{3}$ as sintering aids were manufactured with the amount of $WO_{3}$ addition. The ceramics were sintered at $900,\;930,\;960^{\circ}C$, respectively. Thereafter, their microstructural, dielectric and piezoelectric properties were investigated. The $WO_{3}$ was proved to lower the sintering temperature of piezoelectric ceramics due to the effects of PbO and $WO_{3}$ liquid phase. At 0.3 wt% $WO_{3}$ added specimen sintered at $930^{\circ}C$, electromechanical coupling factor($k_{p}$), mechanical quality factor($Q_{m}$), dielectric constant and $d_{33}$ showed the optimum values as the values of 0.60, 1,402, 1,440 and 360 pC/N, respectively, for multilayer piezoelectric actuator application.
Growth of $LiNbO_3$ single crystal by Czochralski method was carried out to study the piezoelectric effects. Piezoelectric coefficients and elastic compliances of the $LiNbO_3$ single crystal were determined by the resonance method of length-extentional mode of bar resonator from the room temperature up to $100^{\circ}C$. Two dielectric constants of $LiNbO_3$ were also determined by measuring the capacitance of the plate specimen. Measured constants were piezoelectric coefficients $d_{15},d_{22},d_{31},d_{33}$ elastic compliances $s^E_{11},s^E_{33},2s^E_{13}+2s^E_{44},s^E_{14}$ and dielectric constants $K^T_{11},K^T_{33}$. As temperature increased, elastic compliances changed very slowly while piezoelectric coeffiecients and dielectric constant $K^T_{33}$ changed very rapidly. Electromechanical coupling constant of zyw ($45^{\circ}C$)-bar was as high as 0.51 in room temperature and nearly constant up to $1000^{\circ}C$. The increase of piezoelectric coefficients was mainly due to the increase of dielectric permittivity.
In order to fabricate the multilayer piezoelectric transformer by tape casting method, we investigated the effect of $TiO_2$ and PZT powder additions on the Ag/Pd electrode. Meanwhile, effects of $TiO_2$ and PZT powder additives on the microstructure and electrical properties of Ag/Pd electrode were investigated in detail. In addition, the multilayer piezoelectric transformers were fabricated and the characteristics with various load resistance were measured at resonance frequency. The voltage step-up ratio was continuously change with increasing input voltage and load resistance, and then output voltage and powers were increased with increasing input voltage at matching impedance. The temperature rise of multilayer piezoelectric transformers were increased with increasing input voltage and load resistance. Meanwhile, multilayer piezoelectric transformers sintered at $1100^{\circ}C$ show the favorable characteristics with a power of 15 W at $100\;{\Omega}$.
In this paper, in order to develop outstanding Pb-free piezoelectric composition ceramics, the $(Na_{0.525}K_{0.443}Li_{0.037})(Nb_{0.883}Sb_{0.08}Ta_{0.037})O_3+0.3wt%Bi_2O_3+0.4wt%Fe_2O_3+xwt%CuO$ (x= 0~0.8 wt%)(abbreviated as NKL-NST) lead-free piezoelectric ceramics have been synthesized using the ordinary solid state reaction method. The effects of CuO-doping on the structure and electrical properties of the NKL-NST ceramics were systematically studied. The results show that the ceramics exhibit a pure perovskite structure with orthorhombic phase at room temperature, and secondary phase was found in the ceramics. The 0.4 wt%CuO added ceramics sintered at $950^{\circ}C$ showed the optimum properties of piezoelectric constant($d_{33}$), planar piezoelectric coupling coefficient(kp) and mechanical quality factor(Qm) : $d_{33}=213$[pC/N], kp= 0.43, Qm= 423,respectively.
Additions (ZnO, CuO) doped $0.98(Na_{0.5}K_{0.5})NbO_3-0.02Li(Sb_{0.17}Ta_{0.83})O_3$ (0.98NKN-0.02LST-x) lead free piezoelectric ceramics have been fabricated by ordinary sintering technique. The effects of additions doping on the dielectric, piezoelectric, and ferroelectric properties of the ceramics were mainly investigated. X-ray diffraction of the sample appeared orthorhombic phase. The specimen doped with additions exhibits enhanced electrical properties ($d_{33}$= 153 pC/N). These results indicate that the 0.98NKN-0.02LST-x ceramics is a promising candidate for lead-free piezoelectric ceramics for applications such as piezoelectric actuators, harmonic oscillator and so on.

This article presents a numerical analysis to investigate the natural frequencies and harmonic response of a perforated cantilever beam attached to two layers of piezoelectric materials by using the finite element method for the first time. The bimorph piezoelectric is composed of 3 layers; two of them at the outer are piezoelectric, and the inner isotropic material. A higher order 3-D 20-node solid element that exhibits quadratic displacement behavior is exploited to discretize the isotropic layer, and coupled piezoelectric 3D element with twenty nodes is used to mesh the top and bottom layers. CIRCU94 element is added to act as a resistor part of the model. The proposed model is validated with previous works. The numerical parametric studies are presented to illustrate the effects of perforation geometry, the number of rows, the resistance on the natural frequencies, frequency response, and power. It is found that the thickness has a positive relationship with the natural frequency. Perforations help in producing higher voltage, and the best shape is rectangular perforations, and to produce higher voltage, two rows of rectangular perforations should be applied.
Present study deals with the development of finite element based solution methodology to investigate active control of dynamic response of delaminated composite shells with piezoelectric sensors and actuators. The formulation is based on first order shear deformation theory and an eight-noded isoparametric element is used. A coupled piezoelectric-mechanical formulation is used in the development of the constitutive equations. For modeling the delamination, multipoint constraint algorithm is incorporated in the finite element code. A simple negative feedback control algorithm coupling the direct and converse piezoelectric effects is used to actively control the dynamic response of delaminated composite shells in a closed loop employing Newmark's time integration scheme. The validity of the numerical model is demonstrated by comparing the present results with those available in the literature. A number of parametric studies such as the locations of sensor/actuator patches, delamination size and its location, radius of curvature to width ratio, shell types and loading conditions are carried out to understand their effect on the transient response of piezoceramic delaminated composite shells.
