  • Wireless sensor networks consisting of hundreds to thousands of nodes are expected to be increasingly deployed in coming years, as they enable reliable monitoring and analysis of physical worlds. These networks have unique features that are very different from traditional networks, e.g., the numerous numbers of nodes, limitation in power, processing, and memory. Due to these unique features of wireless sensor networks, sensor data management including querying becomes a challenging problem. Furthermore, due to wide popularization of the Internet and its facility in use, it is generally accepted that an unattended network can be efficiently managed and monitored over the Internet. In particular, in order to more efficiently query and manage data in a sensor network. in this paper, the architecture of a sensor gateway including web-based query server is presented and its implementation detail is illustrated. The presented web-based gateway is largely divided into two important parts: Internet part and sensor network part. The sensor network part plays an important role of handling a variety of sensor networks, including flat or hierarchical network architecture, by using internally layered architecture for efficiently querying and managing data in a sensor network. In addition, the Internet part provides a modular gateway function for favorable exchange between the sensor network and Internet.

  • Background: Cognitive impairment is a public health burden. Our objective was to investigate associations between work hours and cognitive function. Methods: Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA) participants (n = 2,497; 50.7% men; age range 44-84 years) reported hours per week worked in all jobs in Exams 1 (2000-2002), 2 (2002-2004), 3 (2004-2005), and 5 (2010-2011). Cognitive function was assessed (Exam 5) using the Cognitive Abilities Screening Instrument (version 2), a measure of global cognitive functioning; the Digit Symbol Coding, a measure of processing speed; and the Digit Span test, a measure of attention and working memory. We used a prospective approach and linear regression to assess associations for every 10 hours of work. Results: Among all participants, associations of hours worked with cognitive function of any type were not statistically significant. In occupation-stratified analyses (interaction p = 0.051), longer work hours were associated with poorer global cognitive function among Sales/Office and blue-collar workers, after adjustment for age, sex, physical activity, body mass index, race/ethnicity, educational level, annual income, history of heart attack, diabetes, apolipoprotein E-epsilon 4 allele (ApoE4) status, birth-place, number of years in the United States, language spoken at MESA Exam 1, and work hours at Exam 5 (β = -0.55, 95% CI = -0.99, -0.09) and (β = -0.80, -1.51, -0.09), respectively. In occupation-stratified analyses (interaction p = 0.040), we also observed an inverse association with processing speed among blue-collar workers (adjusted β = -0.80, -1.52, -0.07). Sex, race/ethnicity, and ApoE4 did not significantly modify associations between work hours and cognitive function. Conclusion: Weak inverse associations were observed between work hours and cognitive function among Sales/Office and blue-collar workers.

  • In this paper, the parallel distributed rainfall runoff model(K-DRUM) using MPI(Message Passing Interface) technique was developed to solve the problem of calculation time as it is one of the demerits of the distributed model for performing physical and complicated numerical calculations for large scale watersheds. The K-DRUM model which is based on GIS can simulate temporal and spatial distribution of surface flow and sub-surface flow during flood period, and input parameters of ASCII format as pre-process can be extracted using ArcView. The comparison studies were performed with various domain divisions in Namgang Dam watershed in case of typoon 'Ewiniar' at 2006. The numerical simulation using the cluster system was performed to check a parallelization effectiveness increasing the domain divisions from 1 to 25. As a result, the computer memory size reduced and the calculation time was decreased with increase of divided domains. And also, the tool was suggested in order to decreasing the discharge error on each domain connections. The result shows that the calculation and communication times in each domain have to repeats three times at each time steps in order to minimization of discharge error.

  • Longevity in medicine can be defined as a long life without mental or physical deficits. This can be prevented by Alzheimer's disease (AD). Current conventional AD treatments only alleviate the symptoms without reversing AD progression. Recent studies demonstrated that Panax ginseng extract improves AD symptoms in patients with AD, and the two main components of ginseng might contribute to AD amelioration. Ginsenosides show various AD-related neuroprotective effects. Gintonin is a newly identified ginseng constituent that contains lysophosphatidic acids and attenuates AD-related brain neuropathies. Ginsenosides decrease amyloid ${\beta}$-protein ($A{\beta}$) formation by inhibiting ${\beta}$- and ${\gamma}$-secretase activity or by activating the nonamyloidogenic pathway, inhibit acetylcholinesterase activity and $A{\beta}$-induced neurotoxicity, and decrease $A{\beta}$-induced production of reactive oxygen species and neuro-inflammatory reactions. Oral administration of ginsenosides increases the expression levels of enzymes involved in acetylcholine synthesis in the brain and alleviates $A{\beta}$-induced cholinergic deficits in AD models. Similarly, gintonin inhibits $A{\beta}$-induced neurotoxicity and activates the nonamyloidogenic pathway to reduce $A{\beta}$ formation and to increase acetylcholine and choline acetyltransferase expression in the brain through lysophosphatidic acid receptors. Oral administration of gintonin attenuates brain amyloid plaque deposits, boosting hippocampal cholinergic systems and neurogenesis, thereby ameliorating learning and memory impairments. It also improves cognitive functions in patients with AD. Ginsenosides and gintonin attenuate AD-related neuropathology through multiple routes. This review focuses research demonstrating that ginseng constituents could be a candidate as an adjuvant for AD treatment. However, clinical investigations including efficacy and tolerability analyses may be necessary for the clinical acceptance of ginseng components in combination with conventional AD drugs.

  • System Packet Interface Level 4 Phase 2(SPI-4.2) is an interface for packet and cell transfer between a physical layer(PHY) device and a link layer device, for aggregate bandwidths of OC-192 ATM and Packet Over Sonet/SDH(POS), as well as 10Gbps Ethernet applications. SPI-4.2 core consists of Tx and Rx modules and supports full duplex communication. Tx module of SPI-4.2 core writes 64-bit data word and 14-bit header information from the user interface into asynchronous FIFO and transmits DDR(Double Data Rate) data over PL4 interface. Rx module of SPI-4.2 core operates in vice versa. Tx and Rx modules of SPI-4.2 core are designed to support maximum 256-channel and control the bandwidth allocation by configuring the calendar memory. Automatic DIP4 and DIP-2 parity generation and checking are implemented within the designed core. The designed core uses Xilinx ISE 5.li tool and is described in VHDL Language and is simulated by Model_SIM 5.6a. The designed core operates at 720Mbps data rate per line, which provides an aggregate bandwidth of 11.52Gbps. SPI-4.2 interface core is suited for line cards in gigabit/terabit routers, and optical cross-connect switches, and SONET/SDH-based transmission systems.

  • In this study, the dry etching characteristics of $SrBi_2Ta_2O_9$ (SBT) thin films were investigated by using ICP-RIE (inductively coupled plasma-reactive ion etching). The etching damage and degradation were analyzed with XPS (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) and C-V (Capacitance-Voltage) measurement. The etching rate increased with increasing the ICP power and the capacitively coupled plasma (CCP) power. The etch rate of 900$\AA$/min was obtained with 700 W of ICP power and 200 W of CCP power. The main problem of dry etching is the degradation of the ferroelectric material. The damage-free etching characteristics were obtained with the $Ar/C1_2/CHF_3$ gas mixture of 20/14/2 when the ICP power and CCP power were biased at 700 W and 200 W, respectively. The experimental results show that the dry etching process with ICP-RIE is applicable to the fabrication of the single transistor type ferroelectric memory device.

  • Distributed Models have relative weak points due to the amount of computer memory and calculation time required for calculating water flow using a numerical analysis based on kinematic wave theory when compared to the conceptual models used so far. Typically, the distributed models have been mainly applied to small basins. It was necessary to decrease the resolution of the grid to make it applicable for large scale watersheds, and because it would take up too much time to calculate using a higher resolution. That has been one of the more difficult factors in applying the model for actual work. In this paper, MPI (Message Passing Interface) technique was applied to solve the problem of calculation time as it is one of the demerits of the distributed model for performing physical and complicated numerical calculations for large scale watersheds. The comparison studies were performed a single domain and a divided small domain in Yongdam Dam watershed in case of typoon 'Ewiniar' at 2006. They were compared to analyze the application effects of parallelization technique. As a result, a maximum of 10 times the amount of calculation time was saved but keeping the level of quality for discharge by using parallelization code rather than a single processor.

  • We, at The Korea Democracy Movement Archives opened temporarily at SungKongHoe University(SKHU), have currently collected about 100,000 recorded materials of democratization movement related with labor, farmer, civilian, human rights, peace, unification, young people, student and women's movements by investigating, collecting and receiving donations from civil organizations and individuals, and about 70,000 data out of this 100,000 data were converted into computer files. The Korea Democracy Movement Archives(temp) at SKHU has a significance in that it is the first archive opened by an organization. Furthermore, the opening of this Archive means the expansion of awareness on recording culture and accumulation of the achievements of the democratization movement in Korea. However, many obstacles still remain in the establishment of this Archive in a full-scale. This article examined many theoretical and realistic obstacles posed to the archivists, who are the professionals responsible for record management, in process of establishing the Archive, and the role and future perspectives of the archivists at The Korea Democracy Movement Archives(temp). The first obstacles in the process of organizing and separating the recorded materials at the Archive is a difficulty in the description of classifying the different movement organizations. The second obstacle is a difficulty in specifically applying the international standard, ISAD(G), of record description in the process of establishing the description items. Through many trials and errors, we need to try to confirm the description befitting. The Korea Democracy Movement Archives through continuous adjustment and complementary measures. The third obstacle is a difficulty in estimating the range and physical and quantitative amount of the recorded materials since the collection of recorded materials is complete. Thus, the answers to these problems lie in continuous efforts to establish a creative classification system befitting the democratization movement in Korea in the process of many trials and errors and endeavor. The evaluation classification done by archivists is a creative act forming record heritage, and archivists need to form record heritage reflecting the evaluation system of a certain period. Moreover, they transmit the shape of the current era in a maximum scale to the future by using the minimum amount of records. An archivist is responsible for two tasks, i.e., preserving a record and making other people to utilize the record by working with record. However, We, at The Korea Democracy Movement Archives(temp), have an additional task of contributing to the democratization movement in korea that has not ended by collecting, preserving and making people to utilize the fragments of memory in the recent history of Korea by establishing the Archives.

  • In the current cloud environments, the applications are executed on the remote cloud server, and they also utilize computing resources of the remote cloud server such as physical memory and CPU. Therefore, if remote server is exposed to security threat, every applications in remote server can be victim by several security-attacks. Especially, despite many advantages, both individuals and businesses often have trouble to start the cloud services according to the malicious administrator of the cloud server. We propose a security-enhanced local process executing scheme resolving vulnerability of current cloud computing environments. Since secret data is stored in the local, we can protect secret data from security threats of the cloud server. By utilizing computing resource of local computer instead of remote server, high-secure processes can be set free from vulnerability of remote server.
