Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between quality of life and Mibyeong index of abnormal symptoms by the Mibyeong state. Methods : A total of 1,100 people were recruited into this study and were collected by specialized research company. The data were collected by personal information using MBI(Mibyeong Index) and SF-12 (Short form-12) and were analyzed with SPSS (version 21.0) computer program, and included Pearson's chi-square test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis. Results : The Mibyeong Index which represents abnormal symptom type showed significant difference for Mibyeong state (p<.001). In Total subject, fatigue, pain, low sleep quality and indigestion were found to be significant predictors of PCS(Physical Component Summary). In Healthy group, pain was found to be significant predictor of PCS. In MI 1 group, fatigue, pain, indigestion and anxiety were found to be significant predictors of PCS. In MI 2 group, fatigue, pain and low sleep quality were found to be significant predictors of PCS. In Total subject, fatigue, depression, anger and anxiety were found to be significant predictors of MCS (Mental Component Summary). In Healthy group, indigestion and anxiety were found to be significant predictors of MCS. In MI 1 group, depression and anger were found to be significant predictors of MCS. In MI 2 group, fatigue and depression were found to be significant predictors of MCS. Conclusions : The relationship between Quality of life and MBI changes according to Mibyeong state. We expect that this result could be contribute to health management of people in Mibyeong state.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the levels of physical activity and its relationships with depression, health-related quality of life (QoL), sleep disturbance, and physiological indicators in hemodialysis patients. Methods: The participants in this study were 139 patients undergoing hemodialysis in the hospitals in Busan and Yangsan-si. Data were collected using hematologic tests and questionnaires that contained items about individual characteristics, International Physical Activity Questionnaires (IPAQ), Center For Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CES-D), a 12-item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-12), and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, one way ANOVA, and correlation. Results: Mean age of the participants was $59.91{\pm}12.63$ and mean physical activity levels were $1,660.35{\pm}1,654.17$. Patients who performed higher physical activities during their daily activities reported lower levels of depression (F=4.16, p=.018) and higher levels of QOL (PCS: F=5.00, p=.008, MCS: F=8.66, p<.001) than those of the others who did not perform physical activities. Conclusion: This study showed that the levels of physical activity among hemodialysis patients was significantly associated with their depression and QOL. Developing strategies for enhancing physical activity is warranted to improve depression and QOL among hemodialysis patients.
Along with the well-established evidence on the negative effect of social isolation on physical and mental health, increasing attention has been paid to multi-dimensional nature of social isolation. One line of study on social isolation has discussed different pathways between objective and subjective social isolation and health. Another stream of the research focused on the possibly non-linear association between social isolation and health by age cohort groups. Drawing from the two lines of research, this study aimed at empirically examine to what extent objective and subjective social isolation are associated with physical and mental health independently and how the associations vary by three age cohorts(i.e. the middle-aged, the young old, the old-old). Data came from the first wave of Korean Social Life, Health and Aging Project (KSHAP) (N= 814). Findings showed 1) objective subjective isolation were significantly related with worse physical and mental health, interestingly, subjective social isolation was associated with mental health only, 2) pattern of association between social isolation and physical health varied by age cohorts. Specifically, compared to the middle-aged, the young old with higher objective social isolation exhibited lower level of physical health, while the old-old with higher subjective social isolation were likely to experience lower physical health. Based on the findings, we discussed implications and suggestions for future research and relevant policy/program development for ameliorating objective and subjective social isolation.
The purpose of this study was to investigate social networks, loneliness, and sleep quality related to health-related quality of life in older adults living alone. Data were collected from 111 community-dwelling elderly. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple linear regressions with IBM SPSS 26.0 program. In multiple regression analysis, physical component summary (PCS) was predicted by the level of education (β=.20, p=.020), social networks (β=.31, p=.012), and sleep quality (β=-.23, p=.011). The model including these variables accounted for 25.7% of the variance in the PCS. Mental component summary (MCS) was predicted by loneliness (β=-.37, p=.004). Loneliness accounted for 31.7% of the variance in the MCS. In order to enhance the health-related quality of life of the older adults living alone, the intervention program to resolve social isolation should be provided for them.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to find out the relationship between academic burn out and the quality of life of college students of health and medical science, and to examine the mediating effects of self-efficacy on the relationship between them. Methods: The data of 379 college students of health and medical science in the Department of Korean Medicine and Nursing located in A and D cities were collected from March to July 2018, and were analyzed using SPSS 24.0 Statistics Program. Results: There was no mediating effect of self-efficacy on the Physical Component Score(PCS), which indicates the physical health index of quality of life in relation to academic exhaustion and quality of life of university students. However, the Mental Component Score(MCS), which indicates the mental health index, had a significant effect on the parameter of self-efficacy (β = .382, p <.001). Although the β value for the school exhaustion and MCS decreased from -.382 to -.209, the effect remains significant (β=-.209, p<.001). Conclusions: It is considered that the development and the application of a self-efficacy enhancement program is necessary to improve of self-efficacy and reduce academic burn out of college students of health and medical science.

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationships among the social support, depression, and health-related quality of life and the factors affecting the health-related quality of life in patients with coronary artery bypass graft (CABG). The subjects consisted of 134 patients who had received CABG from S general hospitals in Seoul, Korea, and the results were analyzed using the SPSS Win 21.0 program. The physical component summary (PCS) was significantly different depending on the age (F=4.616, p=.004), gender (t=3.657, p<.001), education (F=7.688, p=.001), current job (t=-4.363, p<.001), spouse (t=-3.065, p=.003), and underlying disease (F=3.078, p=.030) of the subjects. There were differences in the scores for the mental component summary (MCS) according to their gender (t=2.243, p=.027) and monthly income (F=2.821, p=.041). A significant negative correlation was found between social support and depression (r=-.415, p<.001). Social support had a statistically significant positive correlation with the MCS (r=.261, p=.002). Significant negative correlations were found between depression and the PCS (r=-.459, p<.001) and MCS (r=-.554, p<.001). The depression and underlying disease accounted for 36.7% of the variance in the PCS. The depression accounted for 34.1% of the variance in the MCS. Based on these results, nurses should develop nursing intervention programs for patients who have undergone CABG which take into consideration their depression.
Background: The aim of our present study was to compare quality of life (QoL) between intermediate-stage (BCLC-B) HCC patients who had undergone either liver resection or transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE). Materials and Methods: A total of 102 intermediate-stage HCC patients participated in our study, including 58 who had undergone liver resection and 44 who had undergone TACE. Baseline demographic characteristics, tumor characteristics, and long-term outcomes, such as tumor recurrence, were compared and analyzed. QoL was assessed using the Short Form (SF)-36 health survey questionnaire with the mental and physical component scales (SF-36 MCS and PCS). This questionnaire was filled out at HCC diagnosis and 1, 3, 6, 12, 24 months after surgery. Results: For the preoperative QoL evaluation, the 8 domains related to QoL were comparable between the two groups. The PCS and MCS scores were significantly decreased in both the TACE and resection groups at1 month after surgery, and this decrease was greater in the resection group. These scores were significantly lower in the resection group compared with the TACE group (P<0.05). However, these differences disappeared at 3 and 6 months following surgery. One year after surgery, the resection group showed much higher PCS scores than the TACE patients (P=0.018), and at 2 years after surgery, the PCS and MCS scores for the resection group were significantly higher than those for the TACE group (P<0.05). Eleven patients (19.0%) in the resection group and 17 (38.6%) in the TACE group suffered HCC recurrence (P<0.05). Univariate and multivariate analyses indicated that tumor recurrence (HR=1.211, 95%CI: 1.086-1.415, P=0.012) was a significant risk factor for poorpostoperative QoL in the HCC patients. Conclusions: Due to its effects on reducing HCC recurrence and improving long-term QoL, liver resection should be the first choice for the treatment of patients with intermediate-stage HCC.
1. Objectives: The purpose of this study is to find the association between personality pattern and quality of life according to Sasang Constitution. 2. Methods: The 529 subjects whose constitutions had been confirmed by the experts on the base of drug response were recruited. Personality questionnaire was composed of 15 personal characteristics items measuring the influence of yin/yang and health estimating instrument was SF-12 evaluating the quality of life. Two-way ANOVA was conducted to analyze the Sasang Constitutional difference according to personality pattern. 3. Results: There were 5 different items in PCS(physical component summary), 7 different items in MCS(mental component summary). The individual scores of 3 items - give up easily/stand, decide easily/hard and be exited easily/rationalwere different according to the Sasang Constitution. 4. Conclusions: We suggest that psychological factors may affect the health state, especially might affect the health state of Sasang Constitution differently.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of sleep quality and occupational stress on health-related quality of life among a university's security workers. Methods: 128 security workers voluntarily participated in the study. The survey asked demographic, health related, job related factors, the Korean Occupational Stress Scale Short Form(KOSS-SF), sleep quality questionnaire, and 12-Short Form Health Survey version 2.0(SF-12v2). The data were analyzed by using descriptive analysis, t-test, ANOVA, multiple linear regression, and multiple logistic regression. Results: The interrupted rest time was significantly negatively related to occupational stress. The occupational stress significantly affected sleep quality. The significant variable affecting Physical Component Score(PCS) and Mental Component Score(MCS) was sleep quality and occupational stress, respectively. Conclusions: HRQOL was founded to be affected by occupational stress and sleep disorder among the security workers. Based on this study, we suggest that the management of both occupational stress and sleep quality is crucial to improve the HRQOL.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to seek ways to improve the quality of life of workers by separating workers into the low fatigue group and the severe fatigue group depending on the level of fatigue level, and analyzing and understanding the difference between quality of life and job stress according to the fatigue level. Methods: For the 'Development of Mibyeong management system which was a consumer-directed health care service', the data of job stress, fatigue and quality of life was collected from 115 workers who visited the oriental hospitals located in J city and C city from Jul, 2012 to Dec, 2012. Results: The severe fatigue group showed significantly higher job stress than the low fatigue group in physical environment (p=.004), job demand (p<.001), interpersonal conflict (p=.012), lack of reward (p=.062). The severe fatigue group showed lower degrees both in physical component summary (PCS) (p<.001) and mental component summary (MCS) (p<.001) measured by SF-12 and the quality of life (p<.001) measured by EQ5D than the lower fatigue group. A relatively strong negative correlation was found in the item of mental component summary (MCS) measured by SF-12. Conclusion: Considering our results that high fatigue level show negative impact on quality of life and job stress, we suggest to provide a variety of health promotion strategies to improve the quality of life through the prevention and relief of fatigue for workers.
