The cavitating flow simulation in cryogenic fluid around 3D objects

  • This research focuses on the development of numerical code to deal with compressible two phase flow around three dimensional objects combined with cavitation model suggested by Weishyy et al. with k-e turbulent model. The cryogenic cavitation is carried out by considering the thermodynamic effect on physical properties of cryogenic fluids in physical point of view and implementing the temperature sensitivity in the energy equation of the government equations in numerical point of view, respectively. The formulation has been extensively validated for both liquid nitrogen and liquid hydrogen by simulating the experiments of Hord on hydrofoils. Then, simulations of cavitating turbopump inducers at their design flow rate are presented. Results over a broad range of Nss numbers extending from single-phase flow conditions through the critical head break down point are discussed. In particular, thermal depression effects arising from cavitation in cryogenic fluids are identified and their impact on the suction performance of the inducer quantified.

Characteristics of Ni-Carbon Nanotube Composite Coatings with the CNT Content (CNT 첨가량에 따른 Ni-CNT 복합도금막의 특성)

  • Ni-CNT(Carbon Nanotube) composite coatings is were formed by electrodeposition and their physical properties were investigated with variations of CNT content(1, 3, 6. 9 g/L) in the electrolyte solution, while the current density and electroplating time were fixed respectively at $6A/dm^2$ and 90 min.. With increasing CNT content from 1 to 9 g/L, incorporated CNTs into the composite coating were limited from 4.65 wt.% to 7.38 wt.%. Microhardness and contact angle values were increased with increasing CNT content of upto 3 g/L. With increasing the CNT content further, physical properties were degraded due to agglomeration, poor adhesion of CNTs to Ni matrix and thus rough surfaces. Optimum electroplating conditions were found to be the CNT content of 3 g/L, current density of 6 A/dm2 and electroplating time of 90 min.

  • The synthesis of glass-ceramic materials from glasses based on industrial wastes or natural rocks their physical properties were studied. Glasses of composition, CaO14.7∼16.1, MgO7.4∼9.0, Al2O38.3∼19.3, SiO2 48.9∼51.0wt% were prepared from domestic blast furnace slag, serpentine, sea sand and etc. with additions of chromic oxide, and fluoride as nucleating agent. The glasses were subjected to controlled heat treatments and yielded fine microstructure of glass-ceramics which were composed of monocrystalline phase of aluminous diopside. X-ray diffraction techniques were adopted to identify the crystalline phases and to determine the degree of crystallization quantitatively. Density, coefficient of thermal expansion, young's modulus, microhardness and modulus of rupture were measured and the resulting properties were discussed in terms of the heat-treatment conditions, the degree of crystallization, species of crystaline phase, the microstructures formed in glass-cramics and the chemical compositions of mother glasses.

  • Inclusion complex of sulfamethoxazole with ${\beta}-cyclodextrin$ was prepared by freeze-drying method in molar ratios of 1:1, 1:1.25, 1:1.5 and 1:1.75, and the complex formation was identified by ultraviolet and infrared spectroscopies, powder X-ray diffractometry and differential scanning calorimetry. Dissolution rate and solid state stability of the complex were investigated in comparison with those of sulfamethoxazole powder and the physical mixture of sulfamethoxazole with ${\beta}-cyclodextrin$. As a result, the dissolution rate and the stability of solid complexes in various relative humidity conditions increased more remarkably than those of sulfamethoxazole powder and physical mixture. But the difference according to molar ratio of the complex was not recognized.

  • A numerical analysis has been performed on the two-dimensional rectangular gallium melting problem using the enthalpy method. The major advantage of this method is that the physical domain is discretized with fixed grids without transforming variables and the interface conditions of phase change are accounted for the definition of suitable source terms in the governing equations. But in the fixed method, there is some ambiguity in defining the porosity constant which has no physical interpretation. If the velocity correction is included in the momentum equation, for the appropriate range of porosity constant, the realistic predictions are obtained. The object of the present work is to predict the phase change within the molten steel with thin riser slab using the modified enthalpy-porosity method. The computational procedures for predicting velocity and temperature are based on the finite volume method and the non-staggered grid system. The influence of natural convection on the melting process is considered. A comparison with the experimental results shows that the modified method is better than the previous one.

  • Plasma spray has attracted attention as an effective method for obtaining protective coatings. In this paper, the physical, mechanical and thermal properties of coatings are reviewed. The microstructural features of the coatings are described. The relationship between the properties of coatings and their microstructure is also discussed. Plasma sprayed coatings are used to reduce wear and improve thermal protection on a large number of components in various industries. In some cases, the conditions of application are very aggressive and therefore the resulting maintenance costs are expensive. Improved coating materials and appropriate properties of coatings are the most promising ways to solve these problems[1,2]. The optimum coating properties depend on the microstructure of coatings[1-5]. In this paper, some ceramic coatings frequently used in industries were reported. The physical, mechanical and thermal properties of ceramic coatings are reviewed. The microstructure features of coatings are addressed. The relationship between the microstructure of coatings and their properties are discussed.

  • Interlace textured yarn was developed in order to increase weaving process efficiency. Today, interlace texturing is very useful method of manufacturing the high added value compound yarns for new synthetic fabrics. In this research, new silky type high added value compound yarns were. manufactured by interlace texturing technology and tested their properties. The object of this research is to investigate the relationship between interlace textured yarn properties and processing parameters that is air pressure, yarn tension and take-up speed. The original filament yarns used were TTD(Thick & Thin Semi-Dull) 110d/72f and SCD(Semi-Dull Cation Dyeable) 75d/36f. 27 specimens were manufactured and tested for their physical properties-nip density, tensile properties, multi-step shrinkage test and surface structure by SEM. The air pressure was main process condition to change properties of interlace textured yarns. And interlace textured process had influence on weaving preparation process, weaving, knitting and so on. It has some influence on shrinkage properties of dyeing and finishing processes.

  • The cotton fabrics were treated with formaldehyde in the presence of zinc nitrate catalyst and urea. The effects of HCHO concentration, urea concentration, catalyst ratio, cure time and cure temperature on the physical properties of fabrics were studied. Cotton fabric finished with HCHO and urea had the lower tensile strength and tear strength than untreated one. These strength losses resulted from tighter oxymethylene crosslinks. The enhanced wrinkle recovery for fabric treated with formaldehyde in the presence of urea was indicative of the formation of urea-formaldehyde polymer. These experimental conditions were set up according to table of orthogonal arrays.

  • 본 연구는 요통재해를 일으킬 수 있는 위험요소를 많이 내포한 운수유통업의 인력운반방법(Manual Material Handing)에 대한 요통발병의 위험정도를 측정하였다. 운수유통업에서 이루어지고 있는 운반작업은 우리나라의 제반환경특성상 도구를 사용하지 않고 대부분 사람에 의해 이루어지고 있다. 운반방법도 짊어지는 형태인 등짐작업이 많이 이용되고 있다. 그러나 이에 대한 체계적인 연구가 수행되고 있지 않은 실정이다. 본 연구의 목적은 등짐자세로 물건을 운반할 때와 물건을 하역하여 정리하는 작업이 요추에 미치는 물리적 힘이 어느정도인지 규명하여 위험수준을 파악하는데 그 목적이 있다. 등짐운반과 정리작업(비대칭형 작업)에 대한 역학적인 연구를 수행하기 위하여 몸통근육에 미치는 internal force을 규명하여 정량화한 Han's (1991) model을 이용하여, 이들 작업에 대한 역학적인 분석을 실시하였다.

Effects of pH Variation on the Properties of Electroless Nickel Plating on ABS Made by MmSH (순간금형가열법에 의해 제작된 ABS의 pH변화에 따른 무전해 Ni도금 특성)

  • The MmSH is a process of injecting ABS to produce innovated physical properties compared to the conventional injection process. Physical properties such as thickness and adhesion strength of Ni plate electrolessly coated on a conventional and a MmSH injected ABS have been studied in the pH range 4~8. Thickness of the plate on the MmSH and the conventionally injected ABS appeared to be directly proportional to pH. The ABS processed by the conventional injection showed adhesion strength corresponded to ASTM 4B above pH 5. On the other hand, the ABS processed by the MmSH injection showed a superior adhesion strength corresponded to ASTM 5B above pH 6. It was calculated the shielding effectiveness of above 50 dB in all conditions.
