  • In Korea small - medium companies constitute 96.6% of all of the mining and manufacturing industries, about 35.2% of the total production of value added business, an average of 35% of the actual export of industrial goods, and 47.7% of employment at the end of 1979. Now then small - medium industry companies organization style constitutes 82.1% of private companies and 82.7% of the total on an small scale under 50 persons in regular empolyees. Small - medium industry Companies have growing problems and bottle-necks in their physical conditions. Total Quality Control is contributed by small - medium industry company for more growth than present conditions. But now, Small - medium industry company do not use systematic application of Quality Control Method, the small - medium business compay products quality is not better as compared with big business Company. Specially, TQC is needed for Small - medium company for imperishable enlargement.

  • This study has been performed to investigate formability of non-vinyl PCM(pre-coated metal)sheet. First, physical test of PCM sheets were tested to evaluate finish coating characteristic of PCM. And then, test equipment was made for friction test and three non-vinyl PCM sheets were tested by straight pulling method. This paper provides the results of the friction tests showing the influence of sheet surface texture and process conditions. It was found that the influence of contact pressure and speed had an effect upon the level of friction. Also using tests, the scratch resistance of a series of polyester coating has been investigated. This investigation aims to clarify the process conditions that prevent the scratch of PCM to form the good electrical appliances such as microwave oven, air conditioner and refrigerator etc.

  • The molecular weight of poly-hydroxybutyric acid (PHB) produced by Alcaligenes sp. K-912 is an important parameter characterizing the physical properties of the polymer. The effects of temperature and the levels of glucose, ammonium, phosphate and amino acids on the molecular weight of PHB were investigated. Molecular weight of PHB by temperature varied in the range of 380,000 to 550,000, 400,000 to 600,000 by glucose, 300,000 to 380,000 by phosphate, 400,000 to 1,000,000 by amino acids, respectively under the experimental conditions.

  • To ensure safety of bridges, it is critical to inspect and assess physical and functional conditions regularly. Presently, most highway bridges in the U.S. are inspected visually. However, this method of inspection is often influenced by the bridge inspector's knowledge and experience. So, reliability and accuracy of inspection results may be problematic. To solve such problems, an extensive number of robotics systems and image processing techniques for bridge inspection methods have been proposed. These robotics systems and image processing techniques are used to measure various bridge conditions, such as apparent damage, displacement and dynamic characteristics. This paper provides a comprehensive review of robotics systems and image processing technologies used in bridge inspection.

  • $\alpha$-sexithienyl($\alpha$-6T) thin films were deposited by Organic Molecular Beam Deposition(OMBD) technique, where the $\alpha$-6T was synthesized and purified by the sublimation method. The thin films of the $\alpha$-6T were deposited under various deposition conditions. The effects of deposition rate, substrate temperature. and vacuum pressure an the formation of these films have been studied. The molecular orientations of $\alpha$-6T films were investigated with the polarized electronic absorption spectroscopy. The molecules in the $\alpha$-6T film deposited at a low deposition rate under a high vacuum were aligned almost perpendicular to the substrate. The film deposited at an elevated substrate temperature (~9 $O^{\circ}C$) showed higher conductivity than the film deposited at room temperature.

  • Mercurous Bromide ($Hg_2Br_2$) crystals hold promise for many acousto-optic and opto-electronic applications. This material is prepared in closed ampoules by the physical vapor transport (PVT) growth method. We investigate the effects of solutal convection on the crystal growth rate in a horizontal configuration for diffusive-convection conditions and purely diffusion conditions achievable in a low gravity environment. Our results show that the growth rate is decreased by a factor of one-fourth with a ten reduction of gravitational acceleration near y = 2.0 cm. For 0.1 $g_O$ the growth rate pattern exhibits relatively flat which is intimately related to diffusion-dominated processes. The growth rate nonuniformity is regardless of aspect ratio across the interfacial positions from 0 to 1.5. Also, the effect of a factor of the ten reduction in the gravitational acceleration is same to both Ar = 5 and 2. The enlargement in the molecular weight of B from 50 to 500 by a factor 4 causes a decrease in the maximum growth rate by the same factor, indicative of the effect of solutal gradients.

  • Highly [100]-oriented MgO thin films were deposited on Si(100) single crystal substrates by reactive RF magnetron sputtering. The effects of substrate temperature, gas pressure, RF input powder, and gas composition on the characteristics of MgO thin films were studied. The higher substrate temperature and the lower operating pressure were, the better crystallinity of the deposited MgO thin films were. The influences of the RF input power and oxygen to argon ratio were very complex. The physical characteristics of the films changed dramatically with deposition conditions. Highly smooth and epitaxial MgO films were obtained at the deposition conditions as follows; subatrate temperature, $600^{\circ}C$; operating pressure, 10 mtorr; RF input power density, 2 W/$\textrm{cm}^2$; the percentage of oxygen, 10%.

  • The physical, electrical and piezoresitive characteristics of CrN(chromiun nitride) thin-films on silicon substrates have been investigated for use as strain gauges. The thin-film depositions have been carried out by OC reactive magnetron sputtering in an argon-nitrogen atmosphere(Ar-(5~25 %)$N_2$). The deposited CrN thin-films with thickness of $3500{\AA}$ and annealing conditions($300^{\circ}C$, 48 hr) in Ar-10 % $N_2$ deposition atmosphere have been selected as the ideal piezoresistive material for the strain gauges. Under optimum conditions, the CrN thin-films for the strain gauges is obtained a high electrical resistivity, $\rho=1147.65\;{\mu}{\Omega}cm$, a low temperature coefficient of resistance, TCR=-186 ppm/$^{\circ}C$ and a high temporal stability with a good longitudinal gauge factor, GF=11.17.

  • A long wave induced by a Gaussian-shape submarine landslide is simulated by a 2D fully nonlinear numerical wave tank (NWT). The NWT is based on the boundary element method and the mixed Eulerian/Lagrangian approach. Using the NWT, physical characteristics of land-slide tsunami, including wave generation, propagation, particle kinematics, hydrodynamic pressure, run-up and depression, are simulated for the early stage of long wave generation and propagation. Various sliding mass heights are applied to the developed model for a systematic sensitivity analysis. In particular, the fully nonlinear NWT results are compared with linear results (exact body-boundary conditions with linear free-surface conditions) to identify the nonlinear effects in the respective cases.

  • Recently, upwelling of anoxic bottom water mass have been frequently observed in northeast part of Tokyo Bay in Japan during summer to autumn. Since the colour of water surface becomes milkyblue or milkygeen, the upwelling phenomenon Is called 'Blue Tide'. The data analysis of field surveys during 'Blue Tide' appearance have been performed for understanding the physical features of the 'Blue Tide' phenomena In Tokyo Bay. It becomes clear that (1) the formation of the anoxic bottom water correlates well with the temperature difference between the surface and bottom waters, (21 there are two necessary conditions for generating 'Blue Tide': that Is, strong stratincation and off-shore wind. The strong southwest(on-shored wand before the 'Blue Tide' appearance may play an iniportant role to make the striancation strengthen. When these conditions are larger and the northeast or east-northeast (off-shored wind stronger than S ifs blows In succession, the 'Blue Tide' upwelling appears at the head of Tokyo Bay.
