  • This study aims to explore the relationships between self-esteem, sociality, appearance satisfaction, and subjective appearance satisfaction among college students. A self-administered questionnaire was used to survey students from 4-year colleges in Gwangju Metropolitan City. The findings reveal that personal self-esteem significantly impacts autonomy and activity, while social self-esteem significantly affects sociability and activity. Both physical and psychological self-esteem exhibit a significant influence on sociability, autonomy, and activity, underscoring their pivotal role in shaping social interactions. Further, both social and physical self-esteem significantly affect subjective appearance satisfaction, while bearing no significant influence on personal and psychological self-esteem. Thus, all self-esteem factors influence subjective appearance satisfaction, although some are not statistically significant. In addition, both sociability and activity display a statistically significant influence, whereas autonomy exhibits no such significance. This underlines the centrality of subjective appearance satisfaction in fostering sociability and activity. In sum, the outcomes underscore the interconnectedness of self-esteem, sociality, and subjective appearance satisfaction in college students. Moreover, the results indicate that higher subjective appearance satisfaction is linked with increased perceptions of self-esteem and sociality. Therefore, the development of programs oriented toward enhancing self-esteem and sociality among college students is imperative, enabling them to navigate their academic and social experiences with self-assurance.

The score of interpersonal relationship ability had significantly positive correlations with appearance satisfaction, body-image and self-esteem. Hierarchical linear regression showed physical health status, body-image and self-esteem were independently associated with interpersonal relationship ability. These three predictors accounted for 37% of the variance in interpersonal relationship ability. Conclusion: Physical health status, body-image and self-esteem were the predictors influencing interpersonal relationship ability. Therefore, these factors should be considered when developing intervention programs for interpersonal relationship ability for nursing students.

  • Objective: To investigate the physical appearance and therapeutic changes that occur with the performance of Schroth exercise in patients with scoliosis. Design: Randomized controlled trial. Methods: Fifteen subjects with maximum curvature of the lumbar who were diagnosed with idiopathic scoliosis had volunteered to participate in the study. Eight subjects were included in the experimental group where they performed the Schroth Therapeutic Exercise and the other seven were included in the control group. The experimental group underwent 2 hours of weekly treatment for 12 weeks, while the control group did not during the same period based on the decisions of patients or guardians. The Mann-Whitney rank test was carried out to compare the treatment results of the two groups, and the comparison within the group was done by Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The vertebral rotation angle (VRA) was by Scoliometer, and difference of rotated and curved portion volume (DV) between both sides on the major curvature portion measured by 3D human body scanning system. Results: In the experimental group, 12 weeks of Schroth exercise therapy has significant improved in correction rate (CR) in Cobb's angle (CA), VRA, and DV between both sides on the major curvature portion (p<0.05), while significant differences were not found between the groups regarding weight bearing difference in both feet (WD) and DV (p<0.05). Conclusions: Schroth exercise performance showed significant changes in the patient's therapeutic changes (CA, VRA), but the physical appearance (DV, WD) was not significant, indicating that external changes in the treatment goal setting are more difficult goals to achieve.

Statistical analysis methods were factor analysis, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$-reliability coefficient, t-test, ${\chi}^2$-test, one-way ANOVA, Duncan's multiple range test, Pearson's product-moment correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis. The self-efficacy factor derived four categories including self-control efficacy, social self-efficacy, physical self-efficacy, and task difficulty preference. The college students who were in higher social stratification and older had more appearance management behavior, and those who had lower task difficulty preference and lower physical self-efficacy had more plastic surgery management. Both men and women who had higher self-control efficacy had more clothing management. Women who had higher self-control efficacy, social self-efficacy, and task difficulty preference had more appearance management expenses.
