  • In this thesis, output voltage, current and power of solar module were classified by irradiation and module temperature from data of overall operating characteristics collected for one year in order to manage efficient photovoltaic generation system and deliver maximum power. In addition, from these data, correlations between irradiation, module temperature of photovoltaic cell and amount of power given by photovoltaic cell was Quantitatively examined to deduce optimization of the design and construction of photovoltaic generation system. The results of this thesis can be summarized as follows. As I-V characteristics according to a irradiation range of 100$\sim$900 $[W/m^2]$, voltage and current were increased with an increase in irradiation. The result is thought of as an increase in output power with increasing irradiation.

  • Photovoltaic systems normally use a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique to continuously deliver the highest possible power to the load when variations in the insolation and temperature occur. A simple method of tracking the maximum power points (MPPs) and forcing the boost converter system to operate close to these Points is presented through deriving small-signal model and transfer function of boost converter. This paper aims at modeling boost converter including equivalent series resistance of input reservoir capacitor by state-space-averaging method and PWM switch model. In the future, properly designed controller for compensation will be constructed in real system for maximum photovoltaic power tracking control.

  • With the introduction of high-current 8-inch solar cells, conventional Schottky bypass diodes, usually adopted in photovoltaic (PV) panels to prevent the hot spot phenomenon, are becoming ineffective as they cause relatively high voltage drops with associated undue power consumption. In this paper, we present the architecture of an active circuit that reduces the aforementioned power dissipation by profitably replacing the bypass diode through a power MOS switch with its embedded driving circuitry. Experimental prototypes were fabricated and tested, showing that the proposed solution allows a reduction of the power dissipation by more than 70% compared to conventional Schottky diodes. The whole circuit does not require a dedicated DC power and is fully compatible with standard CMOS technologies. This enables its integration, even directly on the panel, thereby opening new scenarios for next generation PV systems.

  • This paper is proposed a novel method to approximate the maximum power for a photovoltaic inverter system and tracking method. It is designed for power systems application and utilities. The proposed Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) control has the advantage to provide a new simple way to approximate the optimal or rated voltage, the optimal or rated current and maximum power rating produced by a solar panel and the photovoltaic inverter. And this straightforward method will be named linear reoriented coordinates method (LRCM) with the advantage that Pmax and $V_{op}$ can be approximated using the same variable as the dynamic model without using complicate approximations or Taylor series. Furthermore tracking method is improved over 50% photovoltaic efficiency. This paper is proposed MPPT using LRMC and tracking method using weather condition of domestic moderate program technique. This paper is proposed the experimental results to verify the effectiveness of the new methods.

  • In this paper, a simple control method for two-stage utility grid-connected photovoltaic power conditioning systems (PCS) is proposed. This approach enables maximum power point (MPP) tracking control with post-stage inverter current information instead of calculating solar array power, which significantly simplifies the controller and the sensor. Furthermore, there is no feedback loop in the pre-stage converter to control the solar array voltage or current because the MPP tracker drives the converter switch duty cycle. This simple PCS control strategy can reduce the cost and size, and can be utilized with a low cost digital processor. For verification of the proposed control strategy, a 2.5kW two-stage photovoltaic grid-connected PCS hardware which consists of a boost converter cascaded with a single-phase inverter was built and tested.

  • To expect accurately the maximum power of solar cell module under various installation conditions, it is required to know the performance characteristics like temperature dependence. Today, the PV (photovoltaic) market in Korea has been growing. Also BIPV (building integrated photovoltaic) systems are diversified and become popular. But thermal dependence of PV module is little known to customers and system installers. In IEC 61215,a regulation for testing the crystalline silicon solar cell module, the testing method is specified for modules. However there is limitation for testing the module with diverse application examples. In extreme installation method, there is no air flow between rear side of module and ambient, and it can induce temperature increase. In this paper, we studied the roof type installation of PV module on the surface of one-axis tracker system. We measured temperature on every component of PV module and compared to open-rack structure. As a result, we provide the foundation that explains temperature characteristics and NOCT (nominal operation cell temperature) difference. The detail description will be specified as the following paper.

  • The efficiency of the maximum power point tracking(MPPT) of inverter which is used in grid-connected photovoltaic systems is changed according to dynamic environment conditions. Hence, this paper evaluates the performance of the proposed method and other MPPT algorithm on the basis of European Efficiency Test(EN50530). The modeling of MPPT algorithm is made by the Matlab & Simulink. In the result of simulation, the more control period is shorter, the more MPPT efficiency is higher. Also, the Proposed MPPT algorithm has higher performance than other MPPT algorithm with no regard to control period.

  • The demand for solar electric power systems, namely, photovoltaic system has grown steadily in our country over the last 10 years. However, the main obstacle against using photovoltaic system is the financial viability especially concerned with initial cost. The other factors affecting the economic viability of photovoltaic system are cost of electric energy, amount of electric energy produced by the photovoltaic system, discount rate, energy cost escalation rate, inflation rate, project life, and so on. Therefore, this thesis studies on the effect of various relating factors on economic evaluation of photovoltaic system in residential building by calculating payback period.

  • Recently, building energy systems with solar collector and solar module have increased to improve energy problem, a heat island, a global warming and carbon dioxide emissions. In this study, value of solar radiation in areas was analyzed using TRNSYS simulation, and the optimum tilt and orientation angle for installing a photovoltaic module was examined. Average values of the weather data in the past twenty years in areas were used as input data. The results show that the tilt angle of a photovoltaic module for gaining the annual maximum solar radiation varies in different localities, and values of the annual solar radiation gained by using the variable photovoltaic module increased by 2.5 percent as compared with that gained by using the fixed photovoltaic module. When fixed photovoltaic module is installed, it should be examined the tilt and orientation angle for installing a photovoltaic module was examined.

  • A photovoltaic array exhibits several local and single global maximum power points under partial shading conditions. To track the global maximum power point precisely, a novel global maximum power point tracking scheme is proposed in this paper. In the proposed scheme, robustness of the tracking performance has been improved by enhancing searching profile. In addition, the paper addresses the tracking failure condition, and provides the experimental verification with several simulation and experimental results.
