The cone beam computed tomography(CBCT) which can acquire 3-dimensions images is widely used for confirmation of patient position before radiation therapy. In this study, through the simulation using the Monte Carlo technique, we will analyze the exposure dose by cone beam computed tomography and present the standardized data. For the experiment, MCNPX(ver. 2.5.0) was used and the photon beam spectrum was analyzed after Cone beam was simulated. As a result of analyzing the photon beam spectrum, the average energy ranged from 25.7 to 37.6 keV at the tube voltage of 80 ~ 120 kVp and the characteristic X-ray energy was 9, 60, 68 and 70 keV. As a result of using the water phantom, the percentage depth dose was measured, and the maximum dose appeared on the surface and decreased with depth. The absorbed dose also decreased as the depth increased. The absorbed dose of the whole phantom was 9.7 ~ 18.7 mGy. This is a dose which accounts for 0.2% of about 10 Gy, which is generally used for radiation therapy per week, which is not expected to have a significant effect on the treatment effect. However, it should not be overlooked even if it is small compared with prescription dose.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the calibration of an optically stimulated luminescent nanoDot dosimeter(OSLnD) to 6 MV photon beam. Dose ranges of the calibration of linear and non-linear from the analysis of dose response of the OSLnD were decided. To evaluate the accuracy of calibration equation and the calibration, the sets of the calibration and quality control dosimeter were used to make. The calibrations were performed by the linear and the non-linear in the dose range of 0~300 cGy and 20~1300 cGy, respectively. The errors of the calibration were acquired less than 0.1% respectively from the measurement of the quality control dosimeters for the calibration of linear and the non-linear. This study provides the calibration equation of the OSLnD to the 6 MV photon beam.

When high energy photon beam is incident upon an air cavity interface the effect of ionization build-up observed . This phenomenon is resulting from the surface layers of the lesions are significant deficiency of electrons reaching the layers because of the replacement, of solid scattering material by the air cavity, that is lack of electronic equilibrium. Measurement have been made in an acrylic phantom with a parallel plate chamber and high energy photon beams, CO-60, 4MV, 6MV and 10MV X-rays have been investigated. The result of our study show that a significant effect was measured and was determined to be very dependent on field size, air cavity dimension and photon energy. The reductions were much larger for 10MV beam, underdosage at the interface was 12, 12.2, 16.9 and $20.6\%$ for the CO-60, 4MV, 6MV and 10MV, respectively. It was found that this non-equilibrium effect at the interface is more severe for the higher energy beams than that of lower energy beams and the larger cavity dimensions the larger beam reductions occur. This problem is of clinical concern when lesions such as carcinoma beyond air cavities are irradiated, such as larynx, glottic and the patients with maxillectomy and ethmoidectomy and so forth.
In an effort to study the characteristics of x-rays utilized in radiation therapy, we calculated the energy distribution and the mean energy of x-rays generated from a tungsten target bombarded by 6, 10, and 15 MeV electron beams, using a Monte Carlo technique. The average photon energies calculated as a function of the beam radius lied in 1.4 ∼ 1.6, 2.1 ∼ 2.5 and 2.8 ∼ 3.3 MeV ranges for 4, 10, and 15 MV electron beams, respectively, which turned out to have no strong dependence on the radius. Using the energy distributions of 6,10, and 15 MV x-rays obtained for the target distance of 100 cm, percentage depth doses were determined using Monte Carlo calculations. For the case 10 MV, a comparison was made between our calculation and measurement performed by others. The calculated percentage depth dose appeared somewhat smaller than the measured one except in the surface region. We conclude that this is due to the fact that the beam hardening effect resulting from the flattening filter was not properly allowed for in our Monte Carlo calculations.

Purpose: This study evaluated the features of a pressure mapping system for patient motion monitoring in radiation therapy. Methods: The pressure mapping system includes an MS 9802 force sensing resistor (FSR) sensor with 2,304 force sensing nodes using 48 columns and 48 rows, controller, and control PC (personal computer). Radiation beam attenuation caused by pressure mapping sensor and signal perturbation by 6 and 10 mega voltage (MV) photon beam was evaluated. The maximum relative pressure value (mRPV), average relative pressure value (aRPV), the center of pressure (COP), and area of pressure distribution were obtained with/without radiation using the upper body of an anthropomorphic phantom for 30 minutes with 15 MV. Results: It was confirmed that the differences in attenuation induced by the FSR sensor for 6 and 10 MV photon beams were small. The differences in mRPV, aRPV, area of pressure distribution with/without radiation are about 0.6%, 1.2%, and 0.5%, respectively. The COP values with/without radiation were also similar. Conclusions: The characteristics of a pressure mapping system during radiation treatment were evaluated on the basis of attenuation and signal perturbation using radiation. The pressure distribution measured using the FSR sensor with little attenuation and signal perturbation by the MV photon beam would be helpful for patient motion monitoring.

Recently, wireless charging systems have expanded their applications from household electrical appliances to outdoor activity devices. In wireless charging systems, solar cells have versatile advantages, such as abundant raw materials within the earth, reasonable prices of products, and highest power conversion efficiency. In this study, the photovoltaic effect between a silicon solar cell and a photon of infrared wavelength was simulated using a Shockley diode equation. A solar cell power charging system was then set up to: 1) clarify mechanisms of the charging interaction based on the photovoltaic effect with a laser source, and 2) verify interdependency of the parameters: laser settings and geometrical position between a solar cell and the laser. As was observed, the solar cell generates more power when the photon was irradiated uniformly, intensively, and vertically on the surface of the solar cell.
This paper provides a brief review of the advanced technologies for carbon ion radiotherapy (CIRT), with a focus on current developments. Compared to photon beam therapy, treatment using heavy ions, especially a carbon beam, has potential advantages due to its physical and biological properties. Carbon ion beams with high linear energy transfer demonstrate high relative biological effectiveness in cell killing, particularly at the Bragg peak. With these unique properties, CIRT allows for accurate targeting and dose escalation for tumors with better sparing of adjacent normal tissues. Recently, the available CIRT technologies included fast pencil beam scanning, superconducting rotating gantry, respiratory motion management, and accurate beam modeling for the treatment planning system. These techniques provide precise treatment, operational efficiency, and patient comfort. Currently, there are 12 CIRT facilities worldwide; with technological improvements, they continue to grow in number. Ongoing technological developments include the use of multiple ion beams, effective beam delivery, accurate biological modeling, and downsizing the facility.

We evaluated the effect of scatter on a build-up region based on the measured percent depth dose (PDD) of high-energy photon beams that penetrated a handmade build-up modifier (BM) as a substitute of bolus. BM scatter factors ($S_{BM}$) were calculated based on the PDDs of photon beams that penetrated through the BM. The calculated $S_{BM}$ values were normalized to 1 at the square field side (SFS) of 30 mm without a BM. For the largest SFS (200 mm), the SBM values for a 6-MV beam were 1.331, 1.519, 1.598, 1.641, and 1.657 for the corresponding BM thickness values. For a 10-MV beam, the $S_{BM}$ values were 1.384, 1.662, 1.825, 1.913, and 2.001 for the corresponding BM thickness values. The BM yielded 76% of the bolus efficiency. We expect BM to become useful devices for deep-set patient body parts to which it is difficult to apply a bolus.
Mass-analyzed threshold ionization (MATI) spectra of 2-hydroxypyridines existing as lactims (2-pyridinol) in a molecular beam are obtained via (1+1') two-photon process to give accurate ionization energies of 8.9344${\pm}$0.0005 and 8.9284${\pm}$0.0005 eV for 2-pyridinol (2Py-OH) and its deuterated analogue (2Py-OD), respectively. Resonantly-enhanced two-photon ionization spectra of these compounds are also presented to give vibrational structures of their $S_1$ states. Vibrational frequencies of 2Py-OH and 2Py-OD in ionic ground states are accurately determined from MATI spectra taken via various $S_1$ intermediate states, and associated vibrational modes are assigned with the aid of ab initio calculations.
We have investigated properties of a plastic photonic crystal fiber guiding terahertz radiations, THz photonic crystal fiber. The single-mode condition and dispersion of a plastic triangular THz photonic crystal fiber are investigated by using the plane wave expansion method and the beam propagation method. The THz photonic crystal fiber can perform as a single-mode fiber below 2.5 THz when the ratio of diameter (d) and period (${\Lambda}$) of air holes is less than 0.475. The THz photonic crystal fiber with ${\Lambda}=500{\mu}m$ and $d/{\Lambda}=0.4$ shows almost zero flattened dispersion behavior, $-0.03{\pm}0.02 ps/THz{\cdot}cm$, in the THz frequency range from 0.8 to 2.0 THz.
