The Cu and CuSn/PVP nanofibers were fabricated by electrospinning method by controlling various parameters. The precursor solution was prepared with copper(II) acetate monohydrate ($Cu(CH_3COO)_2$) and tin chloride dihydrate ($SnCl_2{\cdot}2H_2O$), and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) for adjusting viscosity. The fabricated nanofibers were calcined at 873 K in Ar atmospheric environment for 5 hours to remove the solvent and polymer. The morphology and diameter of nanofibers were measured by optical microscopy (OM) with Motic image plus 2.0 program. The components and chemical environment were investigated with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). From the XPS survey spectra, we confirmed that CuSn/PVP nanofibers were successfully fabricated. The XPS peaks of C 1s and N 1s were remarkably decreased after calcination of the nanofibers at 873 K. It implies that the PVP was completely decomposed after calcination at 873 K.

Catalyst-free graphene nano-sheets without substrates have been synthesized using fullerene and a high direct current (dc) pulse in the spark plasma sintering (SPS) process. Graphene nano-sheets were synthesized directly in the gas phase of carbon atoms which are generated from fullerene at a temperature of $600^{\circ}C$. Characterization has been carried out by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), Raman spectroscopy (Raman), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD).

Copper oxide thin films were synthesized by reactive radio frequency magnetron sputtering at different oxygen gas ratios. The chemical and physical properties of the thin films were investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). XPS results revealed that the dominant oxidation states of Cu were $Cu^0$ and $Cu^+$ at 0% oxygen ratio. When the oxygen ratios increased above 5%, Cu was oxidized as CuO as detected by X-ray induced Auger electron spectroscopy and the $Cu(OH)_2$ phase was confirmed independent of the oxygen ratio. The valence band maxima were $1.19{\pm}0.09$ eV and an increase in the density of states was confirmed after formation of CuO. The thickness and roughness of copper oxide thin films decreased with increasing oxygen ratio. The crystallinity of the copper oxide films changed from cubic Cu through cubic $Cu_2O$ to monoclinic CuO with mean crystallite sizes of 8.8 nm (Cu) and 16.9 nm (CuO) at the 10% oxygen ratio level.
The barrier and optical properties of AlO$_{x}$ thin films on polycarbonate deposited by Reactive Ion Beam Sputtering (RIBS) were investigated at different oxygen partial pressure. We measured the deposition rate of AlO$_{x}$ thin films. As the oxygen partial pres-sure increased, the deposition rate increased then decreased. The changes of deposition rate are associated with the properties of deposited films. The properties of deposited AlO$_{x}$ thin films were studied using X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Scan-ning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). Optimum deposition parameters were found for fabricat-ing aluminum oxide thin films with high optical transparency for visible light and low Oxygen Transmission Rate (OTR). The optical transmittance of AlO$_{x}$ thin film deposited on polycarbonate (PC) showed the same value of bare PC.bare PC.

The praseodymium-doped $TiO_2$ photocatalyst samples, which could degrade methyl orange under UV irradiation, were prepared by sol-microwave method for improving the photocatalytic activity of $TiO_2$. The resulting materials were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Raman spectra, Fourier transform infrared spectra (FTIR) and Ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflectance spectra (UV-vis DRS). It was found Pr doping retarded the growth of crystalline size and the phase transformation from anatase to rutile, and narrowed the band gap energy. Praseodymium doping brought about remarkable improvement in the photoactivity. The optimal dopant amount of Pr was 2% by molar of cement and the calcination temperature was $500^{\circ}C$ for the best photocatalytic activity. The improvement of photocatalytic activity was ascribed to the occurrence of lattice distortion and the effective containment of the recombination of the electron-hole by $Pr^{3+}$.
The surface of various mechanical pulp fibres including thermomechanical pulp (TMP), chemithermomechanical pulp (CTMP), and alkaline peroxide mechanical pulp (APMP) fibres, were characterized using SEM, AFM, and XPS. With SEM and AFM, middle lamella material was observed to be non-fibrillar, patch-like, while fibre secondary wall was observed to have a microfibrillar structure. It was found that after the first-stage refiner, lignin-rich middle lamella remainders are present on the fibre surface of all three pulps, although most of the fibre surfaces expose microfibrillar structure. After the final-stage refining, large amounts of granules are present on the TMP fibre surface. In contrast, most middle lamella remainders remain on the surface of CTMP fibres after final stage refining and even after peroxide bleaching. XPS results have confirmed that the non-fibrillar surface material is the lignin-rich middle lamella remainder., and the remainders of middle lamella contribute to the high surface lignin concentration.
Submicron-sized conical-type tungsten(W) field-emitters based on carbon nanotubes(CNTs) are fabricated with the configuration of CNTs/catalyst(Ni)/buffer(Al/Ni/TiN)/W-tip. This study focuses on elucidating how the Al/Ni/TiN stacked buffer layer affects the structural properties of CNTs and the electron-emission characteristics of CNT-emitters. Field-emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM), and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) are used to monitor the nanostructures, surface morphologies, chemical bonds of all the catalysts and CNTs grown. The crystalline structure of CNTs is also characterized by Raman spectroscopy. Furthermore, the measurement of field-emission characteristics for the field-emitters fabricated shows that the emitter using the Al/Ni/TiN stacked buffer reveals the excellent performances.
The influences of a small amount of CaO addition on the microstructure and corrosion behavior of AZ81 casting alloy have been investigated by means of optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, immersion and electrochemical tests. The added CaO led to the refinement of ${\alpha}$-Mg grains and the decrease in ${\beta}$ precipitate content by the formation of an $Al_2Ca$ phase. The AZ81-CaO alloy had a better corrosion resistance than the AZ81 alloy. The microstructural characterization on the corroded surface revealed that the enhanced corrosion resistance of the CaO-containing alloy may well be ascribed to the increased barrier effect of precipitates formed more continuously along the grain boundaries and the incorporation of Al and Ca elements into the corrosion film, by which it became more protective.

In this work, SUS310S used for valve plate assembly was electron beam (EB) welded to determine the influence of the parametric conditions on the characteristics of the weld and to minimize porosity and micro-fissures among others. The evolution in the weld geometry and microstructure was examined as a function of the process conditions such as beam current and focusing current under a constant welding speed and accelerating voltage. The integrity of the EB welds in SUS310S was examined for defects (e.g. cracking, porosity, etc.), adequate penetration depth, and tolerable weld width deviation for the various welding conditions. Optical microscopy (OM), x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and 3D micro-computed tomography (Micro-CT) for the cross section analysis of the electron beam welded SUS310S were utilized. The tensile strength and hardness were analyzed for the mechanical properties of the EB weld. At the 6 kV accelerating voltage, it was determined that a satisfactory penetration depth and desirable weld width deviation requires a beam current of 30 mA and a focusing current of 0.687 A at the welding speed of 25 mm/sec.
Graphene has recently been a subject of much interest as a potential platform for future nanodevices such as flexible thin-film transistors, touch panels, and solar cells. And chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and related surface segregation techniques are a potentially scalable approach to synthesizing graphite films on a variety of metal substrates. The structural properties of such films have been studied by a number of methods, including Raman scattering, x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). An understanding of the structural quality and thickness of the graphite films is of paramount importance both in improving growth procedures and understanding the resulting films' electronic properties. In this study, we synthesized the few-layered grapheneunder optimized condition to figure out the growth mechanism seen in CVD-grown graphenee by using various electron microscope. Especially, we observed directly film thickness, quality, nucleation site, and uniformity of grpahene by using AEM. The details will be discussed in my presentation.
