  • We investigated H-type molecular aggregation in a simply spin-coated amorphous homopolymer film of polymethacrylate containing push-pull azobenzene moieties. It was found that the aggregate formation was strongly influenced by thermal treatment an d that the aggregate created in the polymer film could be easily disrupted by irradiation of a linearly polarized light. In the first writing cycle of aggregated polymer film, photo-induced birefringence showed a steep increase to the highest value followed by a gradual decrease to the certain asymptotic value under longer irradiation of a linearly polarized light. This unique behavior could be attributed to the cooperative motion and the disruption of the aggregated molecules under continuous irradiation of light.

  • It is shown that even if the modulating frequency of the light is too high for direct detection the signal can be extracted by frequency conversion at the same time as the detection by means of the nonlinearity of the APD. When this frequency conversion detection is applied to an optical receiver, the detection bandwidth can be increased while the configuration of the optical detection circuit and the signal processing in the subsequent stages are simplified. A fundamental analysis is carried out with an APD which is confirmed experimentally.

  • The polyoxyethylene compounds were added into the photographic emulsion during the physical ripening of photo sensitive silver halide crystal in this emulsion. The polyoxyethylene compounds improved the photographic properties of the film to a great extent increasing the photo sensitivity and decreasing the fog density.

  • For the purpose of study on the printability of domestic art papers, the physical properties of domestic coated paper for offset printing were investigated. 25 kinds of sample papers were prepared and were examined in accordance with KS and TAPPI standard testing method i.e., basis weight, density, opacity, gloss, roughness, smoothness, brightness, and K&N absorption. IGT printability tester was used to obtain the printability parameters, such as maximum ink requirement of paper Y, limiting printing density D print through, and density smoothness constant m value.

  • Based on both organic synthesis and theoretical calculations on the effects of molecular orbital energy levels of amines on the fluorescence properties of the fluorophore, fluorescent "turn-on" chemosensors detecting hazardous substances, including aldehyde chemicals and $Hg^{2+}$ ion, were developed.

  • Automatic detection of interstitial lung disease using Neural Network is presented. The rounded opacities in the pneumoconiosis X-ray photo are picked up quickly by a back propagation (BP) neural network with several typical training patterns. The training patterns from 0.6 mm ${\O}$ to 4.0 mm ${\O}$ are made by simple circles. The total evaluation is done from the size and figure categorization. Mary simulation examples show that the proposed method gives much reliable result than traditional ones.

  • Aerial photo process with digital camera has some benefits. It is fast and simple by digital way incomparison with aerial photo based on film. Also it works with GPS/INS device to do direct geo-referencing. Sdata and digital map and GCP is produced. In base on it, ortho images are produced and compared with surveying data.

  • A digital X-ray system was designed using photo-diode arrays. This system consists of the following five sub-units; (1) slit and driving system (2) X-ray detection system (3) data-conversion system (4) computer (5) image display system. Using this system, one can obtain scatter-free, high contrast, digitally formatted, high quality image, as compared with the conventional film-based X-ray system.

  • On the laser weld production line, a slight alteration of the welding condition changes the bead size and the strength of the weldment. The measurement system is produced by using three photo-diodes for detection of the plasma and spatter signal in $CO_2$ laser welding. The relationship between the sensor signals of plasma or spatter and the bead shape, and the mechanism of the plasma and spatter were analyzed for the bead size estimation. The penetration depth and the bead width were estimated using the multiple regression analysis.

  • This paper suggests a method of automatic clustering to search of relevant digital photos using geo-coded information. The provided scheme labels photo images with their corresponding global positioning system coordinates and date/time at the moment of capture, and the labels are used as clustering metadata of the images when they are in the use of retrieval. Experimental results show that geo-location information can improve the accuracy of image retrieval, and the information embedded within the images are effective and precise on the image clustering.
