복합 광폴리머 표면을 이용한 광배향 TN 셀의 전기 광학 특성 (Electro-optical Characteristics of the TN Cell Photo-aligned on the Blending Photopolymer Surfaces)

  • The electro-optical (EO) performances for the twisted-nematic (TN)-liquid crystal display (LCD) photo-aligned with polarized UV exposure on various blending photopolymer surfaces were investigated. Excellent LC alignment and voltage-transmittance (V-T) characteristics for TN-LCD photo-aligned with polarized UV exposure of normal incidence on the blending photopolymer (polyimide (PI) +PM4Ch(poly(4-methacryloyloxy chalcone))) surface containing chalcone group can be achieved. The EO performances for the TN-LCD photo-aligned on the blending photopolymer can be improved due to the photosensitivity by long side chain of the photopolymer.

광중합법을 이용한 네마틱액정의 배향 안정성 및 프리틸트각의 발생 (Pretilt Angel Generation and Alignment Stability for Nematic Liquid Crystal Using a Photodimerization Method)

  • We have investigated the generation of pretilt angle and alignment stability for a nematic liquid crystal (NLC) with obliquely polarized UV exposure on the three kinds of photo-polymer. High pretilt angle of the NLC was obtained by polarized UV exposure on a PM4Ch surface for 1 min. But, the low pretilt angle of he NLC on a PVCi surface was observed. The pretilt angle generated is attributed ot the photosensitivity by the long side chaining of photo-polymer. Also, a good thermal stability of the three kinds of photo-polymer were obtained by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) measurement until 300$^{\circ}C$. Finally, the good LC aligning capabilities using the photodimerization method were observed by annealing-treatment until 150$^{\circ}C$.

Photo-catalytic Properties of TiO2 Nanotube Arrays Sensitized with In2S3 under Visible-light Irradiation

  • In this work, we report on the preparation of the anodically-grown $TiO_2$ nanotube arrays sensitized with $In_2S_3$ nanoparticles by using the SILAR (successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction) process. We evaluate the photo-catalytic properties of the prepared hetero-structures under visible-light illumination. The results reveal that the $TiO_2/In_2S_3$ system has enhanced photo-catalytic characteristics including higher chopping height. Improved performance of the heterojunction is attributed to the narrower band gap of $In_2S_3$ and its favorable position within the conduction band relative to that of $TiO_2$.

  • The aim of this study is the confirmation of the coating uniformity affected by the surface tension and wall attachment angle in a slit-coater model. In this work, we use the commercial code (Fluent) to solve the two-phase flow formed with air and photo resist numerically. The results show that the surface tension is the most important factor to determine the coating efficiency in the view of coating uniformity, and the coating uniformity is 2% for our slit-coater model and conditions. To improve the coating uniformity, it is in need of minimization of the sidewall effect of slit-coater.

  • The photo leakage currents of a conventional hydrogenated amorphous silicon(a-Si:H) thin film transistor(TFT) were investigated and analyzed in case of illumination from various light sources such as halogen lamp, cold cathode fluorescent lamp(CCFL) backlight, and white light emitting diode(LED) backlight. The photo leakage characteristics showed the apparent differences in the leakage level and in the $I_{on}/I_{off}$ ratio in spite of the similar luminances of light sources. This leakage level is expected to be related to the wavelength of the lowest intensity peak from the spectral characteristics of light sources.

  • Ultraviolet (UV) radiation causes inflammation and matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) over-expression and extra cellular matrix depletion, leading to skin photo-aging such as wrinkle formation, dryness, and sagging. In this study, we demonstrated that pretreatment with the hexane extract of microalgae protects UVB mediated cell damages. The results of clinical study showed that Microalgal Oil treated group reduced wrinkle and improve elasticity. All these results suggest Microalgal Oil may be useful as new photo-aging cosmetics for protection against UV induced activity.

Product Images Attracting Attention: Eye-tracking Analysis

  • This study examined the impact of various product photo features on the attention of potential consumers in online apparel retailers' environment. Recently, the method of apparel's product photo representation in online shopping stores has been changed a lot from the classic product photos in the early days. In order to investigate if this shift is effective in attracting consumers' attention, we examined the related theory and verified its effect through laboratory experiments. In particular, experiment data was collected and analyzed using eye tracking technology. According to the results of this study, it was shown that the product photos with asymmetry are more attractive than symmetrical photos, well emphasized object within a photo more attractive than partially emphasized, smiling faces are more attractive for customer than emotionless and sad, and photos with uncentered models focus more consumer's attention than photos with model in the center. These results are expected to help design internet shopping stores to gaze more customers' attention.

폴리에테르 우레탄 메타아크릴레이트 올리고머의 합성 및 광중합 동역학 (Synthesis and Photopolymerization Kinetics of Polyether Urethane Methacrylate Oligomers)

  • 본 연구에서는 폴리에테르 계열의 폴리올과 이소시아네이트 (2,4-toluene diisocyanate) 그리고 하이드록시 아크릴레이트 (hydroxypropyl methacrylae)를 이용하여 광경화가 가능한 우레탄 메타아크릴레이트 계열의 올리고머를 합성하였다. 합성된 우레탄 메타아크릴레이트의 색상, 점도, 굴절율과 같은 기본적인 물성과 광경화후 필름에 대한 인장 강도, 신율, 영율 등을 측정하였다. 광경화 속도는 Photo-DSC를 이용하여 측정하였다. 유사한 폴리올 구조 내에서는 폴리올의 분자량이 증가하면 인장 강도, 영율, 광경화 속도는 감소하고 연신율은 증가하는 결과를 얻었다. 우레탄 메타아크릴레이트 올리고머의 관능기 숫자가 증가하면 인장 강도, 영율, 광경화 속도는 증가하고 반대로 연신율은 감소하는 결과를 얻게 되었다.

Thermal and Photochemistry of Methyl Iodide on Ice Film Grown on Cu(111)

  • Thermal and photochemistry of methyl iodide ($CH_3I)\;adsorbed\;on\;D_2O$ ice film on Cu(111) at 100 K were studied using temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) time-of-flight mass spectrometry (TOF-MS), X-ray and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopies. On the basis of TPD, multilayer and monolayer $CH_3I$ molecules desorb from $D_2O$ ice layer at 120 and 130 K, respectively. Photo-irradiation at 100 K exhibits dramatic changes in the TPD and I $3d_{5/2}\;XPS\;of\;CH_3I$ on ice film, due to a dramatic dissociation of $CH_3I$. The dissociation is likely activated by solvated electrons transferred from the metal substrate during photo-irradiation. No other photo-initiated reaction products were found within our instrumental detection limit. During photo-irradiation, the $CH_3I$, $CH_3$ and I could be trapped (or solvated) in ice film by rearrangement (and self-diffusion) of water molecules. A newly appeared parent molecular desorption peak at 145 K is attributed to trapped $CH_3I$. In addition, the $CH_3$ and I may diffuse through ice and chemisorb on Cu(111), indicated by TPD and I $d_{5/2}$ XPS taken with photo-irradiation time, respectively. No molecular ejection was found during photo-irradiation at 100 K. The work functions for $CH_3I/Cu(111),\;D_2O/Cu(111)\;and\;CH_3I/D_2$O/Cu(111) were all measured to be about 3.9 eV, 1.0 eV downward shift from that of clean Cu(111).
