  • SRM has not been put into practical applications widely because of its large torque ripple, acoustic noise and low power factor. In addition, a traditional position sensor is needed for the drive control. So we propose an improved sensorless drive method of Switched Reluctance Motors using impressed voltage pulses. Conventional impressed voltage pulse method has a problem of phase delay because of low-pass filter. So in this paper we propose an unproved sensorless driving method based on the impressed voltage pulse using new pulse-shift circuit technique that overcomes the phase delay and start-up problem. Proposed method is implemented in a simple analog circuit instead of using an expensive DSP.

  • In this paper, we propose a new opto-digital object recognition system which has rotation, scale, and shift invariant characteristics. The fourier power spectrum of the object image is modified to get shift invariance. The log-polar transform is used for rotation and scale invariance. And the decision of similarities is performed by nonlinear joint transform correlator (NJTC) that can control the ratio of phase and amplitude signals. Experimental verification of th eproposed optical object recognition system is presented.

  • An integrated photonic radio frequency (RF) phase shifter has been proposed and fabricated using a nested dual Mach-Zehnder modulator configuration in a new electro-optic polymer. The fabricated device shows a continuous voltage control of the RF signal phase. A near-linear phase shift exceeding 108$^{\circ}$was obtained for a 16-GHz microwave signal by tuning the do control voltage over a 7.8- $V_{pp}$ range.e.

  • A simple AC complex circuit analysis for LCL type series resonant converter with phase shift control is proposed. Based on these analyses, a set of characteristic curves which allows a optimal design procedure for this converter is shown, without increasing the volt-ampere rating of tank circuit. Especially, inverter output peak current can be minimized in both full load and partial load conditions. The presented design considerations can make the load range wide from full loads to light loads achieving turn-on with zero voltage switching (ZVS) operation. The simulation and experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed design algorithms.

  • Multiple output converters (MOCs) are widely used for applications which require various levels of the output voltages due to their benefits in cost, volume, and efficiency. However, most of the MOCs developed so far can regulate only one output tightly and require as many secondary windings in the transformer as the number of the outputs. In this paper, a novel Time Division Multiple Control (TDMC) method to regulate all the outputs in high precision is proposed and applied for the multiple output battery charger based on the phase shift full bridge topology to charge a multiple number of batteries at one time. The proposed converter can charge three different kinds of batteries or same kind of batteries in different state of charges (SOCs) by using constant current/constant voltage (CC/CV) charge mode independently. At the same time it can provide an even degree of tight regulation for each output to satisfy the strict ripple requirement of the battery. The validity and feasibility of the proposed method are verified through the experiments.

  • In this paper, development of the 8kW parallel module converter is presented. For a effective configuration of FB-PWM converter, this paper proposes 4-parallel operation of 2 kw-module. FB converter of 2-kW module is controlled by phase shut PWM and in order to achieve ZVZCS, the simple auxiliary circuit is applied in secondary side. In order to achieve ZCS, control logic for auxiliary circuit operation is designed to reset the primary current during free-wheeling period. For output current sharing of 4-modules, the charge control is employed. The charge control logic is designed with phase shift PWM logic. Voltage controller is implemented by using DSP(TMS320LF2406) with A/D conversion data of the output current and voltage of each module. The developed converter is installed in PCU(Power Conditioning Unit) for HSG(High Speed Generator) in a vehicle and health monitoring system is implemented for vehicle operation test. Finally, performance of the developed converter is proved under practical operation of HSG.

  • High frequency AC (HFAC) power distribution systems delivering power through a high frequency AC link with sinusoidal voltage have the advantages of simple structure and high efficiency. In a multiple module system, where multiple resonant inverters are paralleled to the high frequency AC bus through connection inductors, it is necessary for the output voltage phase angles of the inverters be controlled so that the circulating current among the inverters be minimized. However, the phase angle of the resonant inverters output voltage can not be controlled with conventional phase shift modulation or pulse width modulation. The phase angle is a function of both the phase of the gating signals and the impedance of the resonant tank. In this paper, we proposed a pulse phase modulation (PPM) concept for the resonant inverters, so that the phase angle of the output voltage can be regulated. The PPM can be used to minimize the circulating current between the resonant inverters. The mechanisms of the phase angle control and the PPM were explained. The small signal model of a PPM controlled half-bridge resonant inverter was analyzed. The concept was verified in a half bridge resonant inverter with a series-parallel resonant tank. An HFAC power distribution system with two resonant inverters connected in parallel to a 500kHz, 28V AC bus was presented to demonstrate the applicability of the concept in a high frequency power distribution system.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the characteristics of welded joints on the Zircaloy-4 resistance upset welding for HWR(Heavy Water reactor)fuel rods. To estimate the characteristics of welded joints, the various tests were performed on the test coupons systematically with a wide range of each welding parameters in terms of a tensile test, burst test, knoop hardness test and metallography. Major results obtained in this study are as follows: 1. The tube and machined with 120.deg. projection was the reliable weld joint design for the nuclear fuel rod end cap welding. 2. As the weld current and the amount of upset increased linearly with increasing welding main heat input, it could make an estimate of their variation in accordance with the phase shift control. 3. It was found that an increase in squeeze force has an effect on the upset contour of welded joint because the amount of upset were increased by the change of squeeze force.
