글리세롤 유도체의 최근 연구 동향 (Recent Studies on New Value-added Glycerol Derivatives)

  • 오일 가격의 폭등에 따른 바이오디젤 사용량의 증가로 인해 글리세롤 부산물의 공급과잉이 유발되었다. 원래 글리세롤은 석유화학,페인트,담배, 생활용품 및 화장품 분야에 원료자체로써 사용되어 왔다. 최근에는 글리세롤을 값싼 원료로 사용하여 고부가가치의 기능성 물질을 개발하는 응용 연구를 통해 고부가가치의 유도체 물질로 상용화되는 사례가 많이 보고되고 있다. 본 총설에서는 글리세롤을 원료로 사용하여 새로운 고부가 글리세롤 유도체로 개발한 연구동향을 검토해 보았다.

일부 생활화학용품에 함유된 성분 및 유해물질 조사 - 세정제와 소독제를 중심으로 - (An Investigation of Ingredients and Hazardous Substances in Some Consumer Products - Focusing on Cleaners and Disinfectants -)

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to identify the ingredients used in ten consumer product categories and determine hazardous substances among these ingredients. Methods: A total of 542 commercial products in ten consumer product categories were selected. The consumer products were sticker removers, washing machine cleaners, multi-purpose cleaners, mold removers, glass cleaners, chlorinated sanitizers, air conditioner cleaners, disposal cleaners, drain cleaners and disinfectant sprays. The company list was complied from governmental records and a market survey. The respective companies were contacted for a list of ingredients found in the 542 products. Results: The corresponding companies listed 163 ingredients. According to European Union (EU) Directive 67/548/EEC, 38 of the 163 ingredients were classified as dangerous substances. Among these substances, 28 ingredients were hazardous to the skin, 15 were hazardous to the eye, and nine were hazardous if inhaled. Three ingredients were classified as CMR (carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic for reproduction) substances: liquefied petroleum gases (LPG) with carcinogenicity and mutagenicity, and VM&P naphtha and ligroine with carcinogenicity. Conclusion: Various chemicals, including hazardous substances, were used in consumer products. Risk assessment of consumer products is required in order to protect the population from health risks.

An Input-Output Analysis on the Economic Effect of the Korean First Medium-term Logistics Plan (2001-2005)

  • This study introduces the adoption of the logistics industry by the Korean government as a threshold of overcoming economic difficulties. The core contents of the National Logistics Plans (2001-2020) which contain the basic principles of the logistics policies of the Korean government and its aim to be an 'Excellent Nation of Logistics' is introduced. The economic effect of the logistics policies implemented between 2001 and 2005, (the period of the first Medium-term Logistics Plan according to the National Logistics Plans (2001-2020) set up by the Korean government at the end of 2000) is estimated through input-output analysis. The input-output analysis result is as follows: the total output effect is 8,856 billion won of which indirect output effect is 3,982.9 billion won; indirect output effect comes mainly from real estate and business services, non-metal products, metal products, electrical and electronics products, finance and insurance, wholesale and retail, petroleum and coal; the total amount of value-added effect is 3,376 billion won and total import effect is 726 billion won. Employment effect including self-employed and unpaid family supporters with paid laborers is 79,203.7 people of which paid laborers comprise 67,547.7 people.

잡초 및 농림부산물을 이용한 Biorefinery 기술개발 (Biorefinery Based on Weeds and Agricultural Residues)

  • 이제 바야흐로 21세기 탈석유 시대에 대비하기 위해서는 범국가적 차원의 새로운 산업전략이 필요하게 되었다. "바이오리파이너리"란 원유로부터 각종 화학제품을 생산하는 기존의 기술과 달리 석유대신 나무나 볏짚 등과 같은 식물을 원료로 해서 바이오화학제품이나 바이오연료 등을 생산하는 기술을 총칭한다. 바이오리파이너리를 통한 바이오매스 기반의 화학산업은 석유로부터 생성되는 많은 역기능적인 문제점들을 해결할 수 있다. 바이오리파이너리 기술을 이용해서 생산할 수 있는 제품을 특성별로 분류하면, 바이오 연료, 대체원료, 특수 기능물질, 바이오폴리머 등이 있으며, 이러한 공정기술 개발이 미래지속 성장 화학기술의 중심기술이 될 것이다. 바이오 연료에는 에탄올, 디젤, 수소 등이 있고, 대체원료(chemical feedstock)로서는 글리세롤, 젖산, 아세톤, 부탄올, 프로피온산, 부틸산, 부탄디올, 프로판디올, 구연산, 숙신산, 각종 아미노산 등이 해당된다. 특수기능물질 중에는 항생제, 다당류, 미생물농약, 생리활성물질 등과 각종 생촉매 전환반응 생산제품, 바이오 식품소재 등이 있고, 바이오 폴리머는 미생물 대사산물 유기산을 원료로 하는 고분자와 미생물이 직접 생산하는 바이오 폴리머 등이 있다. 이러한 공정기술 개발이 미래 지속 성장 화학기술의 중심기술이 될 것이며, 공정기술 중에서 가장 핵심이 되는 것은 충분한 양의 바이오매스 확보 및 생화학적/열화학적 전환기술이다. 바이오매스 확보를 위하여 환경적응성이 큰 잡초의 이용이 기대된다. 바이오리파이너리는 농업으로 시작되며, 농업과 화학산업의 다리역할을 하는 기술이 바로 바이오리파이너리인 것이다.

목질계 열분해유-바이오 디젤 유상액을 사용하는 직접분사식 디젤 엔진의 엔진성능 및 배기특성에 관한 연구 (Performance and Emission Studies in a DI Diesel Engine Using Wood Pyrolysis Oil-Bio Diesel Emulsion)

  • The vast stores of biomass available in the worldwide have the potential to displace significant amounts of fuels that are currently derived from petroleum sources. Fast pyrolysis of biomass is one of possible paths by which we can convert biomass to higher value products. The wood pyrolysis oil (WPO), also known as the bio crude oil (BCO), has been regarded as an alternative fuel for petroleum fuels to be used in diesel engine. However, the use of WPO in a diesel engine requires modifications due to low energy density, high water contents, low acidity, and high viscosity of the WPO. One of the easiest way to adopt WPO to diesel engine without modifications is emulsification of WPO with diesel or bio diesel. In this study, a DI diesel engine operated with diesel, bio diesel (BD), WPO/BD emulsion was experimentally investigated. Performance and gaseous & particle emission characteristics of a diesel engine fuelled by WPO/BD emulsion were examined. Results showed that stable engine operation was possible with emulsion and engine output power was comparable to diesel and bio diesel operation.

항암성 천연물 및 그 유사체(XI) -한약재 및 민간약의 L1210세포에 대한 세포독성- (Antineoplastic Natural Products and the Analogues (XI) -Cytotoxic Activity against L1210 Cell of Some Raw Drugs from the Oriental Medicine and Folklore-)

  • Forty herbal drugs which are described to have potential antitumor activity were solvent-fractionated with petroleum ether, ether and ethyl acetate in sequence. The cytotoxic activity was mostly shown in the ether fraction(40.54%) and petroleum ether fraction (35.15%), but scarcely in the water phase (10.8%), meaning that most of the active components had less polar property. Twenty-seven percent of the drugs tested were active, which is higher value than 10.4% of the random sampled drugs The drugs possessing the $ED_{50}$ values less than $10{mu}g/ml$ were the roots of Lithospermum erythrorhizon, Curcuma domestica, Salvia miltiorrhiza, Astragalus membraneceus and Scutellaria indica, the leaves of Panax ginseng, S. indica and Liriodendron tulipifera, the barks of Picrasma ailanthoides and Rhus vernifera, the herbs of Agrimonia pilosa and Siegesbeckia pubescens the seeds of Tricosanthes kirilowii, P. ailanthoides, and the stem of P. ginseng.

  • There are two purposes for the marine structures used for fossil fuel: transporting huge amounts of crude oil and petroleum products and producing petroleum resources on the ocean in an isolated operational environment. Both types of structures are exposed to dangerous situations by sea conditions. Such marine structures are greatly affected by ocean climate conditions and its changes. Because of such ocean climate changes, it has been necessary to monitor marine structures. This research discusses the difficulties with adopting a new methodology based on a ubiquitous sensor network and develops an optimized sensor network management system design for a marine structure.

Laboratory-scale Microcosm Studies in Assessing Enhanced Bioremediation Potential of BTEX and MTBE under Various Electron Acceptors in Contaminated Soil

  • Accidental release of petroleum products from underground storage tank(USTs) is one of the most common causes of groundwater contamination. BTEX is the major components of fuel oils, which are hazardous substances regulated by many nations. In addition to BTEX, other gasoline consituents such as MTBE(methyl-t-buthyl ether), anphthalene are also toxic to humans. Natual attenuation processes include physic, chemical, and biological trasformation. Aerobic and anaerobic biodegradation are believed to be the major processes that account for both containment of the petroleum-hydrocarbon plum and reduction of the contaminant concentrations. Aerobic bioremediation has been highly effective in the remediation of many fuel releases. However, Bioremediation of aromatic hydrocarbons in groundwater and sediments is ofen limited by the inability to provide sufficient oxygen to the contaminated zones due to the low water solubility of oxygen. Anaerobic processes refer to a variety of biodegradation mechanisms that use nitrate, ferric iron, sulfate, and carbon dioxide as terminal electron accepters. The objectives of this study was to conduct laboratory-scale microcosm studies in assessing enhanced bioremediation potential of BTEX and MTBE under various electron accepters(aerobic, nitrate, ferric iron, sulfate) in contaminated Soil. these results suggest that, presents evidence and a variety pattern of the biological removal of aromatic compounds under enhanced nitrate-, Fe(III)-, sulfate-reducing conditions.

Polyethylene-polystyrene 혼합물의 저온 열분해에 의한 액화특성 (Liquefaction Characteristics of Polyethylene-polystyrene Mixture by Pyrolysis at Low Temperature)

  • To investigate the synergy effect on the pyrolysis of mixture of polyethylene(PE) and polystyrene(PS), the pyrolysis of PE, PS and the mixture of PE-PS was carried out in a batch reactor at the atmospheric pressure and $450^{\circ}C$. The pyrolysis time was from 20 to 80 mins. The liquid products formed during pyrolysis were classified into gas, gasoline, kerosene, gas oil and heavy oil according to the distillation temperatures based on the petroleum product quality standard of Korea Institute of Petroleum Quality. The analysis of the product oils by GC/MS showed that the new components produced by mixing were not detected. The synergy effect according to mixing of PE and PS did not also appear. The conversion and yield of mixtures were in proportion to the mixing ratio of sample.

HDPE의 열분해에 의한 액화 특성 (Liquefaction Characteristics of HDPE by Pyrolysis)

  • 열분해 온도 및 열분해 시간이 HDPE의 열분해에 미치는 영향을 해석하였다. HDPE 열분해의 시작온도와 활성화에너지는 가열속도가 증가함에 따라 증가하였다. 전환율과 액체수율은 열분해 온도와 시간이 증가함에 따라 계속 증가하였고, 특히 45$0^{\circ}C$에서 열분해 시간에 매우 민감하게 변하였다. 전환율에 있어 열분해 온도가 열분해 시간보다 더 큰 영향을 주었다. 열분해 과정에서 생성된 각각의 액체성분을 한국석유품질검사소 석유제품 품질기준에 기초하여 증류온도에 따라 가솔린, 등유, 경유, 왁스로 분류하여 본 결과, 450 $^{\circ}C$에서는 경유 > 왁스 > 등유 > 가솔린 순이었고, 475$^{\circ}C$와 50$0^{\circ}C$에서는 왁스 > 경유 > 등유 > 가솔린 순이었다.
